That chart really doesnt say what you think it does. It looks like the USB stuff is Xbox and PS compatible, which we already know.
Edit: Oops! Just saw it.

The chart says PS5 for the SN850.
It is blue and big words.

It is pretty clear in platforms.

I'll be gaming for a while waiting for the prices to come down and more competition to hit the market.

I don't play more than a few games at a time and don't mind swapping for a while.

What does the fine-print say about that asterisk? You'd expect Sony to have released a list of compatible drives, if there were any.

The 2TB version is FUCK NO.
I'm pretty sure that 2TB is cheaper than the 970 Pro/Evo when they were first released. Hell, possibly cheaper than the 1TB versions of those drives. That'll be a $200 or less drive by next summer. You won't need an expansion drive for PS5 before then, unless you buy every game made for PS5.

Very exciting. PS5 players are going to be spoiled for choice. Options, that's what it's all about.
Seems like way more hassle than the xbox option. Load ur games on, take to ur friends pop it in and play. Other manufactures to come down the line. Elgant, simple, intuitive.
Ps5 approach, "please snap off the plastic, get a screwdriver, once in it aint going nowhere. Download the games at ur friends if u want to play".

$200 doesn't seem that bad to double the storage. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I paid nearly that much to put an SSD into my Pro a few years ago and that barely even does anything.

You thought wrong.

Expected it to be more expensive, tho. We will see how the prices compare with what the competition has to offer.

1TB without a heatsink is $229. The 1TB XSX expansion card is $219. (cue someone pointing out how the PS5 SSD is faster)

Jokes on you.

Social gatherings are banned for the remainder of the year.

(but seriously... Are we seriously having this conversation in 2020 when the vast majority of people just play online when they want to play games with their friends?)

It is more hassle but it will be cheaper in the long run. If you are an adult you should be able to install this. If you are a child the adult who bought you this should be able to install it. It's not that hard.

The first thing I did with both PS3 and PS4 was swap out the hard drive for something better but no need this gen as it's not replacing the built in drive.

I'll wait until next year and see how I'm going for space and I would recommend others to do the same as I can't see the benefit at this stage and prices are only going to go down.

Where is everyone that was slamming the xbox ssd price at $229? I swear this is the exact same price. Let's be fair at least.

To be honest I think I'm going to be fine just swapping games between HDD and SSD for a while.

Same, because I know when more makers come out with these, there will be undercutting sales by the manufacturers. I can wait.

Also, PS4 games should theoretically receive a boost in load times off the 10Gbs USB on an external 3.5" SSD.

Still way to expensive. I really hope prices will go down if there is more competition.
I really need to replace my 8TB HDD with an SSD. Waiting for years now that prices come down.

On PS5 you can still use an external USB SSD (or HDD 🤢) to transfer games and take to a friends.

Maybe some people place more worth on being able to expand their usable storage by 2TB from day 1?

Both solutions have their pros and cons.

I often would visit a mate and take my external hard drive, plug it into his xbox and we'd play some games he didnt own or couldnt afford to buy on launch (fifa for example). So it does still happen.
