What’s a better game? Starfield or Oblivion Remastered?

Which one?

Both Bethesda games (at their core).

Both modern graphics and consoles.

I haven't played either of them, but I'm feeling the itch. I also like Sci-Fi and Fantasy equally, so no deciding factor there. Simply put, which one is more fun to play and why? You have 50 minutes to finish your response and then pencils down.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is the better game. It reflects the time when Bethesda still had heart and they designed games with passion and love. Starfield is modern Bethesda who only serves the clueless corporate overlords. It has no heart and no soul. Even the modding community cannot fix Bethesda's slop these days. For what it's worth, I say all this as someone whose favorite video games ever are Skyrim, Fallout 3, and Oblivion.

If you have never played any of the Elder Scrolls games I would say Oblivion.
Starfield is a more complicated game with lots of gaming mechanics to learn.

Oblivion is part 4 of series, which did came together pretty well in part 3.

Starfield is new ip. It still needs more work to refine formula.

With that said, I don't think I can choose either cause Starfield being a new game still has a lot going for it.

From what I've played of Oblivion so far…

…Starfield by a country mile in today's terms!

Although I can easily see how impressive Oblivion must have been when it first came out.

But I jive with the Starfield setting, and really enjoyed the game.

Regarding RPG games Everything before Skyrim is better. Skyrim Marks the line of where Bethesda stoped caring about good story /gameplay games. Oblivion remaster is more fun and a solid Game than Starfield, Fallout 4, 76.

If only.

It's the most shallow RPG Bethesda have ever put out.

Quests - Oblivion is better
World building - Oblivion is better
Exploration - Oblivion is better
Plot/Story - Oblivion is better
Factions/Guilds - Oblivion is better
Loot - Oblivion is better
Leveling system - Oblivion is better
Skills - Oblivion is better

The only area where you'd have a valid argument where Starfield is superior is the combat, but it's better in a way that sacrifices the RPG elements to the point where it just plays more like a regular shooter at times.

Starfield is what I'd imagine you'd get if you took a bunch of amateur fallout 4 modders and told them to make a space game.

Is Fallout London that good?

As someone who hated vanilla Fallout 4 is it worth playing?
I didn't hate Fallout 4, for me it was 7/10 good game, bad RPG.
London is my favourite 3D Fallout only bested by New Vegas.
And don't sleep on Enderal. It is the best TES game with fantastic story.

I've played and loved Enderal, if we were to treat it as if it's a Bethesda release then I'd rank it second to only Morrowind.

My dislike for Fallout 4 is because of how poor of an RPG it is. That's high praise for Fallout London though, I'll give it a go at some point when I have less on my plate.

I can only judge games based on what I get out of them in terms of entertainment and in that regard I had better time playing Starfield two years ago than Oblivion both 20 years ago and now.

Which is better? Have no fucking clue.

Starfield at it's core fails as an RPG because its world and lore just isn't interesting enough to engage with, nor does it motivate you to move from place to place the way Fallout and Elder Scrolls does.

It ultimately doesn't matter if the game has good components elsewhere in an RPG if the story, characters and world building is uninteresting, and Starfield ends up being inferior to every other Sci-fi franchise in that regard.

Elder Scrolls on the other hand is arguably the best game franchise when it comes to lore and world building.

I am playing Oblivion for as much time as I can and when I'm not playing it I'm thinking about playing it, I gave up on starfield in less than 15 hours because I found it boring. These kinds of questions are always subjective but I've loved Oblivion for nearly 20 years now and am gladly spending all of my free time playing a prettied up version of a game I finished years ago rather than playing their newest title for whatever that's worth.

Starfield Part 4 ties it all together in 2083. Elder Scrolls 6 by 2028, Fallout 5 in 2034, Starfield 2 in 2041, etc.

This company is slow and making worse games all the time. The 90s iconic era of game dev stretch out just long enough to get Oblivion.

Oblivion. Now I don't understand why Starfield gets such a bad wrap, especially today with all the QoL improvements they have made.

I really liked the game. It's a solid 8/10 today. Is it GOTY? No. However, it's a very good game.

Starfield is a poor man's poor man's sky

Oblivion may be jank (frustratingly so at times) but I've enjoyed my 20~ hours of current playtime

Not so subtle stealth Starfield trolling thread. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Anyway i'll play along.

Oblivion. I'm one of the few on here that actually like Starfield, and think the side content is right up there with Bethesda's best. Overall though Oblivion is the better more refined game. Its simpler and all the better for it.
Bethesdsa are a master at these kind of games IF they stay in their comfort zone of one big map. They tried something different with Starfield, and it didnt totally work.

Oblivion is simply one of the best games of all time imo.

Starfield has too many lengthy loading screens to simply finish most quests (because they can span multiple planets and systems).

It always be an inferior franchise compared to Elder Scrolls until they fix that biggest, most glaring problem.

It's is a shame because they had finally nailed good gunplay with Starfield.

Oblivion was a product of its time. Open world games were still in their infancy. First person RPGs on consoles were still basically sperms. Momma Gaben was still in the middle of labor birthing HD gaming. All these factors contributed to everyone giving Oblivion a pass on almost everything. There really wasn't much to compare it to in most regards. My time with it was magical and somewhat transcendent. A brand new gaming experience in a lot of ways. Early days of Xbox 360 had so much of that. Got Gears 1 and my first HDTV the same day. Talk about a generational leap!

I haven't played the remaster because frankly my memories of Oblivion and UE5 don't make me reach for my wallet. Moreso when I imagine combining them. I think I'll get my Oblivion replay done in Skyblivion. That way I can trim it just how I like and I won't have any UE5 fuckboy things to worry about. I actually like Creation Engine. Skyrim and Fallout 4 are fantastic experiences with the right mod loadout.

I got about 15 hours into Starfield on a gamepass sub and honestly not even one of those hours were something I'd consider "fun". I don't think I found any dialog that was enjoyable, and nary a character I could root for. I'll probably pick it up when it's around $20 just because Bethesda games are probably in my Top 3 all-time for hours spent playing. I can't even say I'm cautiously optimistic for TESVI. If the writing in Starfield is anything to go by, we're in for some shit that no amount of head-cannon can fix. Them being UE5 curious dissolves a lot of the hope for community fixes too.

The Elder Scrolls games always have this charm to them because you can do awful stuff in them.

The games have very loose morals.

Fallout is the same.

I love Starfield and it was my GOTY the year it released.

But Oblivion takes the win here without much trouble. It's a genuine GOTY-awarded 94 Metascore classic and my first The Elder Scrolls and the reason I love Bethesda's games. And it's even better now.

Back in the day, Oblivion was great and made in line with the times of its era. Starfield is a 2013 game released a decade late.

Oblivion was one of the best RPGs of its time. Remastered version looks nice and with mods has a lot going for it.

Starfield was one of the biggest disappointments of its time. Even with official updates and mods it sucks.

Oblivion. It's not even a contest.

Yes it is a remaster but as an EVE Online player and having also played Outer Wilds, Starfield was lightyears behind them in enjoyability

Morrowind....

Playing olbvion again is making me realize how dumbed down this game is. Especially comparing to a game like KCD2. All that usesless shit everywhere you can't react with.
I loved that skyrim had survival modes that made food, drink and temperature mean something, although that game was dumbed down even more.

Any single player Elder Scrolls or Fallout is many times better than Starfield. Starfield had the worse leg and modders have no interest in it since the game and story doesn't interest many people which is why the game is still around 10x lower in ccu compared to Fallout 4 and Skyrim as even the creation kit can't even it.

Not sure about Series X and I've yet to try it but PC performance is fucking dreadful. Ive paused my play through hoping for a few patches. On a 4090.

Well I own it on Series X and I've been playing it all week. First-hand source, here. I didn't mention PC, I mentioned the two platforms I can personally speak to. Is there any game released on PC that doesn't have major problems? I feel like it's every single game nowadays.
