What albums do you consider "perfect"?

I've already posted, but I've just thought of a few more:

Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures

Primordial - To the Nameless Dead

Dream Theater - Metropolis PT 2: Scenes from a Memory

Came to post illmatic and entroducing.. both on first page. :')
I've never seen Metallicas master of puppets album cover, that's amazing haha.

None come to mind.

Illmatic, The Modern Lovers' only album and LCD Soundsystem's "This is Happening" come pretty close.

Looking through the thread: Pixies' "Doolittle" and The Avalanches' "Since I Left You" come pretty close too.

Disintegration by The Cure.

Unreal shit here. Not even a big Cure fan. No desire to ever see them in concert and a lot of their other stuff gets on my nerves. So much more music here than lyrics and what lyrics are there are memorable.

Edit: And I now see the post above mine agrees.

Metallica - Ride The Lightning

I respectfully disagree. I love RTL, but "Trapped Under Ice" is so bad. Pure filler. A shit stain on an otherwise fantastic album.

I just thought of another perfect Album: Within the Realm of a Dying Sun by Dead Can Dance. Just flawless. First four songs were composed by Brendan Perry; next four by Lisa Gerard. They sound completely different but somehow manage to form a cohesive whole.

Perfume Genius - Put Your Back N 2 It

I may think of older albums later, but this... This one right here... Tears me up errytime. I may think of going to the woods and get some fuckin blueberries for my fuckin tasty blueberry pie with vanille ice cream that I'll serve to my siblings and mother and still get teary every time I hear 17 or All Waters THAT ATMOSPHERE IS SO GOOD

"Perfect" is a tough thing to call any album, but these are all albums that I love and can listen to, start to finish, at the drop of a hat:

Gorillaz: Demon Days
The Avalanches: Since I Left You
Radiohead: OK Computer
Kate Bush: Hounds of Love
GZA: Liquid Swords
Converge: Axe to Fall
Boris: Pink
Rjd2: Deadringer
Kanye West: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (heh heh heh)
Mono and World's End Girlfriend: Palmless Prayer/Mass Murder Refrain

I post the same one in all these threads:

Up on YouTube

Always Nas, always GZA, always Wu-Tang but never this, which is an actual album! *flips out again*

Even with all the flipping out, these threads are good. Much music.

Almost no album is perfect to me. Theres always be one or two tracks. But one album got by clean: Portishead "Roseland NYC Live".

Sure it's kind of cheating since it's a live album but when every song is done better than the studio version....fuck it. They achieved perfection.

Well, it's pretty damn close, though I doubt many would agree with me.

What is there to say? This album defines what is is to be alive, then mixes a bit of funk in, resulting in a nice home-cooked meal.

There's only one perfect album out there. I doubt many on GAF have heard of it. Go and listen now if you like any kind of prog, although I hesitate to label it.

Way too much Radiohead in this thread

Im curious to see what people define a perfect album. It's weird seeing all the kid a and ok computer in this thread cos as much as i love those albums I definitely dont listen to alot of the songs on each of them. I doubt people listen to fitter happier or treefingers in their cars on full blast.

For me a perfect album would be something i can listen to from beginning to end without skipping any songs and actively enjoying in the whole way through.

Hunky dory - david bowie
In the aeroplane over the sky - NMH
Abbey road - The beatles
Either/or - Elliott Smith
MPP - Animal collective

Its funny though, I love all these albums but a couple of these albums arent even my absolute favourite so its definitely weird.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik and Californication by The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Off The Wall by Michael Jackson.
Appetite For Destruction by Guns n Roses.
Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys.
Sgt Peppers by The Beatles.
In Utero by Nirvana.
Blonde On Blonde and Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan.
Sign O The Times by Prince.

Personal tastes aside I was wondering what album I was wondering if you took a more objective approach as in "has an album ever had every song chart on billboard?" or something to that effect. Dated 2008 but here's the best I could find:

Most Top 40 hits (LINK):

/wrist

Most Top 40 hits - Top 5:
Taylor Swift Fearless (13) (6 from platinum release)
Taylo Swift Speak Now (9)
Janet Jackson Rhythm Nation (7)
Michael Jackson Bad (7)
Michael Jackson Thriller (7)

Some other interesting measures:

Most Top 10 Hits:
Born In The USA Bruce Springsteen 7
Rhythm Nation Janet Jackson 7
Thriller Michael Jackson 7

Most #1's 1 album
5 - Michael Jackson — Bad 1987-1988
5 - Teenage Dream, Katy Perry 2010-2011

My own opinion:

Tool - Undertow

I respectfully disagree. I love RTL, but "Trapped Under Ice" is so bad. Pure filler. A shit stain on an otherwise fantastic album.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen someone complain about Trapped Under Ice. Escape usually gets all the hate, obviously due to the chorus, which is uncharacteristic of Metallica, but I still like it.

Master Of Puppets didn't get the nod from due to The Thing That Should Never Be. Too repetitive and boring IMO.

The B-52's debut
New Pornographers - Twin Cinema
Thee Michelle Gun Elephant - Gear Blues
Paul McCartney - Ram
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless and Isn't Anything
Kanye West - My Dark Twisted Fantasy
Radiohead - Kid A

And I'm a huge Beatles fan but there's always at least one song that I skip on each album. The above albums are great as an album but every song is great as well. That's why I always have a problem with people saying "OK Computer" is a perfect album - on the whole it's wonderful, but do you jam out to "Fitter, Happier"? It's the indie equivalent of skits on a rap record.
