What are some "EASY and REALISTIC" wins that gaming companies could do...but havent.

NINTENDO

1: Make Welcome Tour a free pack-in for all Switch 2 SKUs

2: State that only games coming on 64 GB Switch 2 carts may end up costing upwards $90 physical

3: Recommend kids using the new JoyCons as mice use mouse trackpads with them

SONY

1: Never announce another PC port of non-GAAS game at a SOP or Showcase ever again; PC players have to show they meaningfully contribute to PS (engagement & sales/revenue) before getting that privilege

2: Provide more straightforward way for people to back up save data to external storage (less jumping through hoops)

3: Provide easier means of using the web browser like a real browser

MICROSOFT

1: Make better commercials (stop leaning into memes, very "How do you do fellow kids?" energy)

2: Don't market the next Xbox devices running off Teraflops or being cheeky about PlayStation specs (Series S CPU faster than PS5 type BS). It will backfire immediately

3: Classify next Xbox as a computer so it can escape Trump tariffs

VALVE

1: Just keep staying several steps ahead of Microsoft on the whole "Consolefying PC gaming" strategy

SQUARE-ENIX

1: Do more games like DQ1-3 HD Remake and Romancing SaGa 2 Remake

2: Ensure Switch 2 is a Day 1 for FF IX Remake and next mainline FF game

3: Stop setting stupidly unrealistic sales expectations for games. Six million sales shouldn't be considered a failure.

SEGA-ATLUS

1: Make an OutRun 3

2: Stop prioritizing Xbox for Western games marketing; it's just screwing your games over in getting peak attention (also affects sales)

3: Make a Shining Force III Scenarios 1-3 Remake within the next 10 years

BANDAI-NAMCO

1: Get the rights from SIE to publish a Parappa & UmJammer collection (Parappa 1, Parappa 2, UmJammer w/ uncensored songs, Parappa anime episodes as bonus) for PS4/PS5, Switch 2 & Steam

2: Make an actual DBZ JRPG sometime in the next decade
I wanted to post something, but I don't need to because you nailed it!

Thank you for being awesome!

I'm now on tech forums reading about the open source issue.
If Steam OS is to have any chance on HDMI who would have to pay? Valve or AMD? BOTH? If this isn't solved then Windows will be the only good way to game.
Who knows. I feel like AMD could have added the proprietary porting of the HDMI code into their firmware. That's being said on complete ignorance, so if there is someone who actually knows whether this is possible please set the record.

So I don't let AMD completely off the hook for this issue. They've known about this for years.

With any luck it will be like Windows and Dolby Atmos. I had to pay to 'enable' Dolby Atmos Headphones. Maybe Steam OS could have an option for those who want VRR and other HDMI features, pay up to get it.

Low effort, by the numbers IP iterations. Example: Just a simple ass Rainbow 6 Vegas 3. It doesn't have to break a mold, it doesn't have to subvert expectations. Just make a solid ass campaign and some basic multiplayer. Don't need seasons or a dashboard with daily updates.
No shit. This has been my biggest issue with Microsoft. there is no reason, they couldn't have multiple studios working on smaller not revolutionary graphics, but FUN versions of Fallout and Skyrim, Doom like Ubisoft did with Farcry (New Dawn, Primal are examples) and Assassins Creed (Rogue being Black Flag 2). But....they didn't want to offend Bethesda.

You have to be careful as that can lead to products being milked.

AMD already pays a licensing fee to have the ports on their GPUs. To me that is a bullshit suggestion.

and one I'd probably pay for

Having said that, there is still hope that this issue can be resolved as one of 3 things needs to happen.

1. TVs start adding in a DisplayPort. I can see this possibly happening as new TV tech really only appeals to gamers. The new G5 can go up to 165Hz. That feature has NO appeal or use to non-gamers.
2. Nvidia starts putting better effort into their Linux drivers. If nvidia wanted to make an amazingly pro-consumer move. They could hire the bazzite team, and create a version of SteamOS with full nvidia support. AMD could do this, where they inject the HDMI 2.1 stuff after the community works their open source
3. HDMI Forum finally relents. The code has been "supposedly" already leaked. I dont have official confirmation of this, it was just mentioned on the WAN show where Linus talked about it.

Just gotta say: I find it funny the thread asks for easy wins and people make suggestions like "make a new game in this series" or "evaluate and overhaul the industry". :messenger_grinning_squinting: None of that sounds particularly "easy" to me but that is just my two cents.

On topic: Not exactly a publisher decision but the NFL can stop giving an exclusive license and let more than one company make NFL simulation games. No significant action need be made on their part and it would be instant free good will from fans who are also gamers.

I was always a Madden player so it is not as though this desire is born from saltiness about the deaths of the other series for me. Unfortunately I believe the series peaked with Madden 06. I hate having only 1 choice for NFL games in principle and the quality has dropped off hard since EA got the exclusive rights. At the same time the greed went through the roof with that Ultimate team bullshit. I have little doubt the lack of competition has something to do with both of those.

Bring back NFL2K! Bring back NFL Gameday! Bring back NFL Blitz! Hell, bring back NFL Fever if Microsoft wants to take a stab at it. More games is great for gamers.

An easy win to me would be for other publishers to finally admit defeat and stop their launcher bullshit. I am already annoyed I have to deal with Steam. I don't want to deal with another launcher on top of that. That especially goes for you, Blizzard. Fuck you.
