Transparency.

Gamers reward it every time, but they're almost always too scared to do it.
Exactly. Instead of being transparent, they waste so much energy trying to control the message, and most of the time it backfires.

RELEASE MOTHER 3 OUTSIDE OF JAPAN ALREADY

Even Nintendo knows how big a deal games like Undertale were, which were totally inspired by the EarthBound/Mother series, and it would easily be successful, but they just sit on it like it's not a big deal....even though it was one of the best JRPGs I ever played....

Spot on. So many no brainers and they keep fumbling.

But nah, let's shove in more ads, subscriptions, and AI fluff no one asked for
They only care about short term profit, thats all they do. Its fucking insane how many, many people in top positions still have a job

I think the problem with Mother as an IP is that Iwata was one of its champions because he was friends with Shigesato Itoi. I don't think there's anyone left at Nintendo who cares about Mother.

Nintendo

Take their failed mobile title Dragalia Lost, retool is to not be a gatcha and release it for the switch as a simple little online multiplayer title. The same way Capcom did with Megaman X Dive.

Honestly I really enjoyed the plot of this game, but it was held back by being a Gatcha title, the online event raids where you worked with other players was really cool.

I still play a private server version on my mobile, but I just feel like giving the universe a shot again on switch as a full game might give the universe anouther chance.

The OST was phenomenal and is probably one of the reasons I still keep going back.

Second remember this shit

Announce a free optional DLC, that undoes all the censorship and restores all the Japanese scenes and hot springs DLC. Watch what happens to sales of the game. See if players want to play the game as was intended before whatever the fuck happened, happened.

Not happening.

If you had played it, you would know why. I could see another Mother game being made, but not a full release of 3.

BTW, Punch Out is very dead too. That I would not expect to see another game of.

Nintendo: Keep selling 3D Allstars, rather than stop selling it for literally no reason.
Nintendo: Put NSO Virtual Console on mobile/pc. People can already emulate these games might as well give them the option to do it officially.

It would be nice if AMD could come up with a solution, and likely there solution would benefit all cards. To me the real issue is Proton is still not perfect with new game releases and super old stuff having issues, and Nvidia's closed-source drivers are still buggy with Valve's gaming mode controller front-end. Linux is still lacking in general app support, not every Linux app has an easy Flatpak click-button installer, Flatpaks still have permission issues that prevent them from being more automatic like Windows/MacOS installs. Certain things still require touching a command prompt rather than having a GUI-based solution, and Linux is still more prone to bugs.

In the next year or so, I do think many of these things can be alleviated, but even when Valve releases SteamOS to everything, I think it will be a slow grower than some massive wave (which Steam itself was a slow grower). If Microsoft can't make a good UI front-end for Windows, then Proton improvements + Valve's better UI will move people over time.

I already use a 42 inch LG C3 OLED for gaming on my PC at a desk, where the LG Companion app makes it behave more like a monitor in auto powering off/on with my computer.

OLED panels in general are taking over, because you can just give them a matte finish to work better in a lit desk environment, or glossy if you're on a couch, and most of the monitors are 16:9 aspect ratio anyway. I do think once they push 240hz, literally PC gaming will be the only thing that can use that frame-rate until the next batch of consoles do frame-gen.
If TVs start adding DisplayPort (there is NO evidence this is happening) then the HDMI Forum issue will end up being a moot point. When TVs start hitting 240Hz then it would make sense to add one. We will see if that actually happens, but they will hit 240Hz, once HDMI 2.2 starts making it's way into TVs.

However, my dream preferred setup will always be to run everything through an AV Receiver and just have one HDMI cable going to the TV. Right now, I have to run my HTPC directly into the TV and rely on eARC, which I do NOT like. My Onkyo 6050 will not allow my 9070XT (or any AMD GPU for that matter) to passthrough the receiver, without losing ALLM and VRR, which is not acceptable at all. My 4090 would passthrough it just fine. VRR/GSync, ALLM and full bandwidth 4K/120 10-bit HDR 444. It was perfect. But my 4090 belongs on my desktop with my 4K/240Hz Qd-OLEDs. I have heard, that nvidia includes all the HDMI 2.1 instructions on the actual GPU firmware, which could be why it works so well on Linux. Something I think AMD needs to look into.

If anyone knows of a receiver that will pass an AMD GPU through it, please let me know.

Isn't that a docked Steam Deck?
That's how I started out my PC living room journey and there is far too much hassle to install games from other launchers there. I don't think it would be a win until they start collaborating with all launcher providers so you can go through your game lists and install games from within the Steam UI and display playtime and achievements. If you have to go out to Linux or run janky third party apps it'll end with failure.
It's not a docked SteamDeck. It works identical to SteamDeck, but with PC specs. It revolutionary how well it works.

Yes, it works best when most of your games are on Steam. You can get other launchers to work, but it is a process, but it's mostly a set it up once and forget about it. GOG games are exceptionally easy to get to work. Just download the installers. I have moved almost all my games to Steam from other launchers. I say this as someone who hated Steam for a period.

As for your comment about other launchers and achievements. Im not sure I follow. Valve is obligated to support games bought on Steam, not other launchers.

Not really, because in the scenario he's proposing, I'm getting that the idea would be to take advantage of the far greater performance of a high-end desktop PC.
Yeah okay I thought he talked about SteamOS in general, the user interface etc.

I personally like the Steam Deck UI, it's close to perfection. But I feel restricted regarding out of Steam games. This goes for Steam in Windows as well, you can add non-Steam games but it never feels like they belong there. I think Valve should collaborate with the other launcher providers and sort that out so you can install directly from Steam and show playtime and achievements and screens etc. Just sync it all up.

I would actually love it if we can 'save' games during cutscenes, and to return to the exact moment we quit.

I'm playing Final Fantasy 16 and the cutscenes are so goddamn long I don't have time to sit through all of them.

I got to the end of Act 1 in AC Shadows on my steam deck. I had to pause and suspend the deck 2-3 times and put it on the charger to make sure it didn't die while suspended.

As for your comment about other launchers and achievements. Im not sure I follow. Valve is obligated to support games bought on Steam, not other launchers.
I know but they should all get together and work it out. It's just data, Playnite sync it all, Valve could do it too, if the other ones allow it. The most annoying thing about PC gaming is all the different launchers. On the living room PC I add all non-Steam games I play to Steam, to start them from Steam's big picture UI. And they never show playtime, achievements or even screens. It's annoying.

All of them:

Re-evaluate the industry, bring down costs and development time.

Put inventive and innovative people in charge again, rather than bean counters and suits.

Actually put effort into making games again instead of chasing trends.

Microsoft finally getting rid of paid online play.
it hasn't made sense in a long time as their PC versions use the same services for free.

Spin out multiple smaller studios who use the same engine and asset reuse to make new smaller entries between major releases. So games like Miles Morales, Fallout New Vegas. Effectively the model that RGG use so they can create less risky games with much lower budgets and keep the IP alive between major entries (so you dont get over a decade between releases, where you've also spent half a billion dollars).

I thought you couldn't back up PS5 games to an external device period except to the cloud. End of Story? Is this not the case?

No, you can use USB. The help page is on their website even: How to back up and restore PS5 console data

It's inconvenient, but it's doable.

Well, I said PC, so what do you think I mean?

GeOS & Itch.io?

Nope, it's crazy. Also: Retarded.

Sorry the truth hurts :/

I'd love to know the real reason that this hasn't happened yet.

Because the fallout among diehard PS customers would be legendary, and likely sharply drive down early adopter demand for future hardware. Not to mention, just set a precedent of more SIE ports to PC, diluting value of the console as a purchase option.

SIE might've been greedy with their PC initiative this gen, but they aren't morons.

Nintendo going third party would be a major one since nobody buys their hardware for their games, but I understand that many Nintendobros would find this taboo to suggest. Just saying that after the advent of handheld PCs and emulation portables, the Switch lacks a main compelling reason for its existence besides Nintendo exclusives.

I said what I said.

Those PC handhelds - combined - have only sold ~ 6 million units in the past 3 years. That's not a number Nintendo cares about; they can move that type of volume in a single quarter in a peak or near-peak year, easily.

The path for PC handhelds seeing bigger market share mainly rests of Valve working with OEMs to scale up the volume & ease-of-use of Steam Deck, while also getting them regularly in brick-and-mortar retail stores. They'll also have to do some real advertising for the hardware in ways somehow both specific to their own hardware and unified across the product line. That's in addition to finding a good price-to-performance balance that can attract the larger mass market.

Not easy things to do at all, and they'll also have to rely on PC exclusives (well, Steam exclusives in Steam Deck's case) to some extent. That will probably take at least another five years, maybe more, to see the market share grow substantively, and we're still talking maybe 6-7 million a year (peak product cycles) vs 6 million per 3 years. It may also might not be possible with just the Steam Deck, hence also bringing back Steam Machines (or call them Steam Docks or something).

Microsoft have console volume manufacturing & distribution experience companies like Valve lack, but their gaming platform products (Xbox consoles, Game Pass, Microsoft Store) are just much less appealing than Steam, Steam Deck and Steam OS when it comes to gaming, PC or otherwise. They have to get a lot of things right in order to maybe be seen as a genuine alternative to Valve's stuff, and to edge back some volume margins in units they've lost with Xbox Series (last year they barely did 4 million units and that's while selling them at a loss). It'll take even more to be seen truly up to par or better than Valve's initiative and control the direction of a consolized PC gaming future.

Best of luck to them because just like with PlayStation, Microsoft's deep pockets won't mean much if the general consumer market just finds their product less appealing than the competition. But yeah, back to your main point, Nintendo's got nothing to worry about with either company's plans for a good number of years; none of this stuff's a real threat to Switch 2. SIE's portable plans would be more of an actual threat for them, but that handheld is some years away and for now they still are relying on the PS Portal.

WTF is this even suppose to mean? There's a reason why they keep showing those ports to PC Gamers and it's mainly because said PC Gamers actually buy their PC ports but only if they don't fuck them up and release them half assed..

Do they really though? I mean you can argue they bought and continue to support Helldivers 2, but a good chunk of its Steam sales were also PS5 owners who just opted for a PC version due to a number of reasons. AKA lateral sales. And we already know in markets like the UK, HD2 sold better on PS5 anyway; if there wasn't a PC version, chances are some notable portion of those PC players (mainly those with a PC & PS5) would have just bought the game on PS5 instead.

For other ports, even the best-selling are still a paltry amount compared to what units those games have moved on console. More importantly, the PC revenue of those ports is much less than the revenue the console versions have generated. I'd even argue the residual revenue from longer-term sales which the PC ports are eating into on console side, would probably be larger for SIE if the PC version didn't exist.

The reason I say that is because chances are, that PC player getting Spiderman 2 3 years after it releases would already have a PS5 and could've just done the same on PS5, or would've bought a PS5 by that point to get the game there & other, newer games (likely exclusives) driving them into a PS5 purchase. But the existence of the PC ports now dilutes a lot of that long-term, residual sales strategy for PlayStation. It's simply less effective now, and the console price increases over the years isn't helping on that front either.

Ok, let's got with something actually realistic now:
  • Allow mods: it's that simple. You don't have to do any more work, the community d
    • Allow mods: it's that simple. You don't have to do any more work, the community does the work.
    • Endorse tournaments: other really simple stuff. It's bizarre how so many companies want to make their games multiplayer, but doesn't create a real incentive for people to play in multiplayer.
    • Twitch integration: while there is more work involved in that, it's certainly likely to pay off. You will be making attractive for more streamers to play and show your game without having to pay each one.
    • Don't use licensed stuff. Seriously, you are just creating problems for yourself down the line. Imagine being disallowed to sell your game a few years from now because the ip holder decided they want double the amount you already paid it?
    • Release game without DRM eventualy. Look, I get it: piracy is a thing, but sooner or later sales simple dwindle down on any game. Why not remove DRM that usually make the game perform worse and make it less compatible with stuff? Capcom decided to go in the opposite direction and we all suffered. Why??
you talking about consoles?

Wont happen. Unless a Bethesda like system exists. Too many would break the game and it would be a tech support nightmare for companies.

Yea Legend of heroes as well. The amount of times I've had to see my wifes death stare as she just left to go get us food and is now waiting on my cut scene to end because my son wants to play after I get off is one to many.

Burnout 3 Remaster.

Ridge Racer Collection

Neither would be a gargantuan hit but they'd sell well and cost very little to put together.

I said what I said.

Nintendo naysayer would usually say people only buy Nintendo hardware for Nintendo games and it sucks for everything else anyway.

You're gonna have to reconcile with your own camp. Imagine suggesting Switch destroyed all other handhelds like SteamDeck just because it's cute, readily available and plays third party games. Nobody buys it for access Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Kart, Smash, none of that.

Going third party is a way to cater to you personally so you can play a Nintendo game on a different handheld you want. 99% of normal people will just go to Target and buy a Switch, meaning by catering to you they lose the leverage that makes them so much more money. Easy way to hurt themselves maybe.

10 years later Nintendo will be doing the same thing and people will still be crying for them to fail and retreat to the alleged safety of their torrent clients.

You'd think. But now everyone gets paranoid and I've seen people calling Donkey Kong "woke"

I mean come on, you really wanna hate stuff, don't you ? (Not you)
A vocal aggressive minority was calling everything and everyone "rAyCiS and sheeeeiiit" for decades now, so it's only naturally that this lead to the oversensitization that we're seeing right now. Hate breeds hate.

they can do what Sony does where the PC/PS4 version is delayed by a couple months/years.

I think a lot of people would appreciate just being able to play Mario Kart on a PS4 without having to buy a Switch 2. Their games would do way more numbers without a paywall.

The only people outraged about a PC port of Bloodborne ten years after it originally launched would be delusional fanboys such as yourself. Thankfully, Sony has been paying them heed less and less as the years go by.

Of course people would appreciate Mario Kart on PS4/5. Duh. And Mario Kart would even sell more copies for it.

300 million copies of Mario Kart in one generation is not worth giving up the leverage that makes Nintendo rich, and they know it. They love money, so they won't do it.

I have the same opinion for Sony, even though way back I wanted them to die for "killing" Sega. As an objective business opinion, I think it's dumb and they should not do it. I'd also "appreciate" a single system that plays all games, but my appreciation is not proof that bank accounts will.

Yes and we'll see how well (or not well) that goes for them with PS6 I suppose.

Also you can call a dilution of value proposition towards a platform through ever-increasing multiplatform strategy for what it is, without being outraged. Just pointing out a natural truth isn't the same as being furious about it.

The pursuit of money at the expense of culture is going to be the final death knell of late-stage capitalism, especially for publicly traded companies.

Nintendo makes more than enough money as-is by fostering a wholly synergized gaming/brand culture and ecosystem around their vertical integration of hardware and software. They don't need other platforms for financial stability & success, especially if doing so ends up destabilizing the synergy in the ecosystem they already have.

Their off-platform profit interests are already fulfilled through some mobile spin-offs (not ports; very important distinction) and more transmedia pushes like the Nintendo World and various film projects, not to mention all the merchandise. They don't need nor seem to want PC, PlayStation or Xbox for their games business to be sustainable.

You realize that there are native PS5 ports for Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy right? Uncharted 4 runs uncapped...
Oh, I am very aware of that. I am also aware that I would have to pay for them again when I already have Uncharted 4...
Legacy of Thieves collection does not even have UC4's multiplayer. So there is no way on Earth to play the pvp shooter portion of the game at 60 fps.

Do you see what I am getting at now?

Just booted up Uncharted 4 and it still runs at 30 FPS on my base PS5. No framerate options. As far as I know Bloodborne is still in the same boat. The Last Guardian actually had a frame cap patched in post release that you can only get around if you have the disc and play offline.

I am not asking for haptic integration or a VR mode or anything exotic here. Just give your early adopters a frame rate patch instead of pushing a content cut remastered collection. Plenty of Sony's other first party studios did it for games that are just as old or older than UC 4. Even Naughty Dog did it for TLOU II. So why the hell do they just twiddle their thumbs on this? Bluepoint should be able to knock these out in a couple of weeks max. Like I said this is as close to a free win as you can get in this industry.

LOL it's a 10 dollar upgrade, so no you do not have to pay for them again.

You're playing the PS4 version.

You think Bluepoint is going to patch a game that isn't theirs?

Sell every IP to the Chinese and watch the quality skyrocket along with micro transactions and human rights violations

I do not know where you are from but in my neighborhood when you give money to someone in exchange for something they have that is called paying.

The only "upgrade" would be in frame rate and resolution. As I already noted it lacks a huge part of UC4's content. Also: saying "LOL it's $10" does not counter the fact that you have to spend more money for something they had been giving away for free. Welcome Tour is $10. That does not make it worth it. This is not a TLOU II Remastered situation where it actually has more meaningful content than the PS4 version.

"You're playing the PS4 version."
8q4R9F.gif

Do you think think I did not know that?
I also played the PS4 versions of Horizon: Zero Dawn, God of War and The Last of Us Part II and they all had 60 FPS patched in. So what is your point?

"You think Bluepoint is going to patch a game that isn't theirs?"
They REMAKE games that are not theirs, dude. Was that a serious question? They are a subsidiary of Sony, if they are told to do it they will. Or, they could simply have Naughty Dog do it, like they did with TLOU II.

Horizon with Monster Hunter mechanics like it originally was supposed to. Hunt machines, break parts off, use said parts to craft armour and big oversized weapons. Like anyone who says Thunderjaws arent badass is lying, and crafting one into armour is rad as fuck. Huge missed opportunity IMO.

Bloodborne Remake/Sequel..Enough Said.

From Software should revitalise Tenchu, especially after the success of Ghost of Tsushima and the reception to AC Shadows. Imagining what they could do taking mechanics from Sekiro and the early Tenchu games would be awesome.

Square Enix : make FF14 anime.

Final Fantasy branding is actually slowly shrinking its popularity into niche IP. they are aware of it and trying to grow new fanbase but they cant keep betting on videogames only. cant keep hoping new entry would be magically next 'Elden Ring' or 'Cyberpunk 2077' lol. they dreamed for over 10 millions sellers despite each of mainline entry in history barely reach that bar. but nowdays just simply being a very good game is not not guarantee enough. open world also a common today. what they need to do is to take advantages of other medium aside of videogames to raise the mindshare. Hogwart Legacy is good example where one of reason it sell very well due to its popularity as Harry Potter. i dare say one of reason why FF15 sold well also due to the multimedia format helping to promote the game with the CGI film and short anime OVA.

so its either film, tv series and obviously anime. live action is hard to do due to lot of reason but anime should be easily doable. when last time we got Final Fantasy anime? if i remember correctly last one is Final Fantasy Unlimited at 2001- 2002 which is around 22-23 years ago.

easiest and obvious choice is by capitalize Final Fantasy 14 MMO nature and its popularity with the current surge of isekai fantasy MMO anime genre. partner with big anime studio to make FF14 anime series. fans actually been asking for this for years. the fact that this never happen especially considering Square Enix as one of top anime mechandise publisher is baffling. it would be great exposure and marketing toward the IP for newcomer. heck even Genshin Impact got partnership with Ufotable to make anime LOL what the heck are Square Enix doing all this time. this could has bigger impact in gaining new generation newcomer than just betting solely on making good games, open world and action content in their games IMO.

there is actually an effort to do live action tv series for FF14 but it was cancelled due to huge budget constraint. so anime is the easiest way. infact they should not even hesitate to even ride FF14 popularity to help promoting the IP or other new mainline entry.

Yeah, sometimes. Though many are, not all decisions are made based on data analytics. A lot of times companies make decisions based on their culture and practices that are ingrained into their DNA. Sometimes decisions are made based on hubris and a feeling that the data is wrong. At the end of the day companies are run by humans. If all decisions were based on correct analysis of factual data with no feeling involved we probably wouldn't be having discussions about what they are screwing up. Yet here we are.

The data can be wrong.
Intel is a PERFECT example of this under the Pat Gelsinger era. They always treated their products as premium products and never tried to price them competitively and AMD just completely kicked their ass. Their culture also forced them to put out the 13 and 14 series CPUs which have been a DISASTER and cost the company untold billions.

Or the data can be good and the wrong conclusions are drawn. Data also rarely accounts for saturation.

Low effort, by the numbers IP iterations. Example: Just a simple ass Rainbow 6 Vegas 3. It doesn't have to break a mold, it doesn't have to subvert expectations. Just make a solid ass campaign and some basic multiplayer. Don't need seasons or a dashboard with daily updates.
