If Tool had never recorded anything other than this song, that transition between Parabol and Parabola alone would put them as the best rock band of the past 20+ years (Ænima came out in the same year Layne Staley became a recluse, so that's about right). Also, Maynard's mysticism is a bit goofy, but "we are eternal, all this pain is an illusion" hits hard.
