What are your *Actual* hot takes regarding video games? I mean ACTUAL stuff that would get people riled up?

Yet it's actual gameplay and exploration is stronger than any game out there. Going to repost what I've said before.

"I've shit on every walking simulator and it's not hard to see where I stand on things like this. But what it does differently is that it's "walking" doesn't stop you from playing. What do I mean by that? I won't spoil the story moment: but I took a wrong turn in the game and ended up hiking uphill through a random snow storm only to come out on the other end not having anywhere to go. So I whipped out the stakes and started a descent down a mountainside to my objective and using what perches found I was able platform down and over the course of a few minutes fully descended and reach my objective in a totally unorthodox, non-linear fashion: most importantly, the game didn't tell me "NO, YOU CAN'T DO THAT!" It gave me the tools I needed and let me accomplish my goal how I wanted.
You lost me at the first sentence. You definitely have Kojima blinders on if you truly believe that, or you just don't play many games at all. The arguments for the game are tiring and make it difficult to take anyone's viewpoint as face value. But, as the thread is, we are all entitled to our opinions. I know a lot of people like the game, and that's why I know this is a hot take. I'm glad you were able to have the experience you did with the game, either way!

I once riled some Nier Automata fans up by saying I didn't feel like playing through Part B of the story, because it involved 6 hours of repeating content I'd just played through. Most people took it in stride, but some hardcore fans of the game got upset and called me names - "lazy," unreflective, "entitled," and some others I can't remember. "Entitled" was the funniest.
It wasn't a "hot take," though. I spent time explaining myself, and I wasn't intending to upset anyone - it just turned out that way, lol.
Lazy, non-reflective, entitled
🤬🤬🤬

1. The Last of Us part 2 was a better game than part 1.
2. Final Fantasy 16 is the best Final Fantasy.
3. Persona games are overrated high school simulators for people that had a bad time in high school.
Tell me you dont like final fantasy without telling me you dont like final fantasy

NeoGAF should have a whole separate forum for all the PC hardware guys to go to and yack about graphics cards and tech and show off their rigs or whatever else associated drama and leave this one for the gamers to actually talk about games

Man, FUCK Elden ring...
-Graphics which are 2 gens behind.
-Usual copy-paste and asset reuse up the ass.Sounds,.textures etc are all lifted from previous games.
- in comparison to other FROM games, the art-direction is GOD DAMN AWFUL with monsters and armors which don't make sense and give off this generic high fantasy feel.
- It's basically Dark souls with a dead open world and a horse.

How the FUXK it sold as much as it sold I'll never understand - and this is considered one of the best FROM games ? Fuxking LMAO.

It just goes to show that people just like bullshit min-maxing in their ARPGs and making OP bullshit and broken builds, that, and that they have also being conditioned in thinking that the super lazy and cheap as fuck drip fed "lore" in the usual FROM fashion is to be considered "deep".

Both Sekiro and Bloodborne shit on this game from a height, at least those had some fantastic art-direction and atmosphere.

Fuck this game and fuck the usual snobbish, FROM circle jerk fans.
It sold that well because it had easy mode (summons) and easily highly upgradable weapons and such ... so the mainstream was finally able to play it...retard reviewers also were able to finally play it and gave it high grades... the open world also helped because mainstream looooves fucking open world anything.

My hot take is that often fan communities online acts like a very stupid hive mind and what people consider "hot takes" are just opinions that gets often scolded for no reason.

Movement in BotW and TotK is so goddamn sluggish it ruins the games for me.
I get the world, the story, the quests, but fuck me does moving around just feel off.
It's not just speed, jumping, climbing, it's the general feel of moving around.

Get a half decent PC and emulate these games instead. The Switch's heavy triple buffered vsync is eradicated and controlling Link at higher fps feels extremely responsive, it's perfect.

This also helps a fair bit with RDR2, although all Rockstar games are designed around feeling utterly shite to control.

There should be no first person games, even VR should be 3rd person
It should be impossible to play a pixel art game without a CRT FIlter
Nintendo games are made for kids and are still some of the best games on the market
Every game should be atleast as stylized as Sonic unleashed.

Arena fighters are the supieror form of fighting game

The '83 crash was a blip on the radar, and the American-centric narrative that it 'destroyed the industry' is false. Europe and the microcomputer scene was absolutely fine.

The Commodore 64 was a better system than the NES.

Neither consoles nor the PC have 'won' anything in 2025. The act of 'playing a video game' now encompasses so many completely subjective values and tastes that both are here, both aren't going anywhere, and both will have massive audiences - neither of which are 'stupid'.

I enjoyed video games a lot more before forum culture. I remember, back in the day, people just played what they want and talked about it together. People bought games on PCs and consoles and there was no 'war'. Forum culture has made this a miserable and depressing medium to enjoy, due largely to threads like this. I am, therefore, just as complicit.

I fucking love Motion Blur.

I even like Chromatic Aberration most of the time.

I can't stand Indie 2D Pixelslop J U I C Y Camera Shake.

Other M is one of the best Metroid games.
I think it's one of the middle to lower end games in the series on par with Fusion and Dread, but that doesn't mean it's bad at all. I really enjoyed the game itself a lot. It was just the cut scenes/storytelling that was... Questionable. If they ever released Other M HD, I would be there to buy it for $60 day 1.

Mario 64 is a bad game. It's clearly a series of physics/technical demos that were production-ized and packaged as a Mario game.

- GTA sucks

- Analog triggers are worthless 99% of the time

- games in the 8, 16, and 32 bit eras are light years better than current games.

- Pcegine with its cd and system cards was better hardware than both the snes and genesis.

The DualSense is Sony's worst controller so far. All of the Dualshock controllers had much better feeling buttons and dpads to me.
Plus the dualsense is heavy, expensive, and trash quality control.

Apparently liking gimmicks and enjoying being a casual gamer are enough to really get people going... It is quite something.

Gaming as a whole is a lot better when consoles are at the forefront, and PC gaming is quietly in the backseat as the superior way to play games but they have the decency to shut the fuck up about it and not ruin the fun for the rest of us.

90% of the "neutral" gamers in the social war are in fact woke retards who dont want to be on the "loosing" side.
This

It's pretty obvious they are part of the insane sick woke crowd whenever they do the both side thing or find any chance to attack the anti woke which shouldn't even be a word in the first place. Like I know there's grifter channels that just constantly talk about woke crap and I don't watch those often or even sub to them. But I still have absolutely no problem with them talking about it. Any sane person shouldn't be having a problem with it even if they don't pay as much attention to it. Cause sick disgusting evil shits like that deserves to be trashed on similar to thieves, scammers, pedophiles, etc.

- Final Fantasy IX is the best JRPG of all time and i'll die on this hill. Yes...even how it all gets batchit crazy at the end is just * chef kiss*
Not really a hot take anymore, FFIX has been getting more and more love over the years. It ages a lot better than the other old ones and it's style is extremely unique compared to every other JRPG. It has that cult classic feeling to it and has elements from Jim Henson.

Eh…ive seen some people calling it the best FF game. Best JRPG? It's not common i think.

Rayman Legends is more fun than any 2D Mario ever (and I actually like 2d Mario),

Astro Bot is more fun that every 3D Mario except Galaxy 2

The Gamecube was by far and away the worst of the 3 major consoles during its generation, and I just don't get this awkward nostalgia for it now.

GTA has always been emotionally exhausting way over it's real worth, that goes against not taking the hobby seriously, maybe we're just hypocrites or it's the exception to all other games.

Sony first party games were massively better during the PS1/PS2 years. The best Mario game in the last 15 years was made by Ubisoft.

Video games are no more art than a game of chess or baseball are art. There can be art in a game, like a nice chest set can be art, but the game is a game not art.

Being rewarded with cut scenes for progressing in a game is both a terrible way to experience a story and terrible way to play a game. Not to mention, the gameplay is usually incongruous with the story. If you want to experience a story properly told stick to novels, movies, and tv.

The video game industry would be best served thinking of themselves as toy makers. There is no shame in that. Craft them well and take pride in your in your toys.

I think it would benefit gamers too if they thought of gaming as playing with toys. Again, no shame in that. Your leisure activity doesn't have to be art to be worthwhile.

Bring fun back to games. No more long tedious grind-fests and no more exploitative casino or gambling elements.

Astro Bot is boring and gets the praise it gets because of member berries and a lack of good 3D platformers.

JRPG is a genre you should grow out of when you become an adult.

Gears 2 and 3 are massively overrated.

Souls combat is stale and boring.
