What are your thoughts on the Joy-Con 2s On Switch 2?

I played my Switch 1 mostly in portable and so far my Switch 2 the same. I figured larger joy-cons for my large-ish hands would be a nice improvement. But in playing Super Mario 3D World (and a couple other games), I'm having enough troubles to make a thread about it.

In 3D World, the right analog stick is so close to the action buttons that I keep flicking it accidentally. That makes the camera change angles and I naturally try to compensate and end up falling off a cliff. The other issue I have is Mario is butt-stomping when I don't want him to. Apparently the L/R buttons are so sensitive that the way I hold the unit, it keeps registering as "hit" when I have no intention of even touching the button.

The new ZL/ZR sounded cool in how it helps in mouse-mode with the curved buttons, but in reality I'm hitting them all the time naturally, again, by accident. I also had issues in Mario Kart World where I'm like, "Where are you going Mario, no one told you to do that?!"

Is it just me and my fat hands? Or are these new joycons not well play-tested?

I don't hate them. I think they're better than the originals.

But I'm not sure I like them either. The shape is still weird, and I think they're unsuited to long term play.

I do want to try them in split controller configuration at some point, I have a feeling the larger size will really make that a comfortable way to play. But I haven't had the chance to do that yet so I have nothing really to say about that for now.

Joy-Con 2 so far works well and even used the mouse control on Bravery Default's new mini games and works well there as well.

But at the same time I don't use Joy-Cons to play Mario Kart or other games with more active gameplay, this is why I bought pro controller for it.

Considering the increase in size and weight of the console, the joycons should have been beefed up with grips and normal-sized joysticks like the Steam Deck, Rog Ally, etc. Ergonomically the Switch 2 is really awkward to game on in portable mode compared to the Switch 1, which was also not very comfortable. The Steam Deck inspite of its greater weight and size is far more comfortable for longer gaming sessions.

Love the mouse functionality, it makes Civilization a completely different experience. The bigger sizing is also a clear improvement.

The only thing I don't love as much is the click in motion, if Switch is docked it's more awkward to click them in from the side than the top.

They still feel like joycons...not really blowing me away in that department. The sticks don't really feel any bigger to me than the joycon 1s. I'm gonna need something to replace them for a bigger grip feel like I had on my Switch 1.

I'm not sure I'm sold on them being a mouse either. I haven't used them much in that way, but the minigames I played in Bravely Default that have you use both controllers at once as mice....I didn't like it. Maybe using one controller as a mouse will feel fine, but using both at the same time was killer on my hands. Maybe also just too small for my huge meaty paws.

They.... work.
No reason to use them if you have any proper controller available, but eg while traveling or so, they'll do.

Still nowhere near as comfortable to me as the Steam Deck, which honestly surprised me a bit, I'd have hoped Nintendo would at least catch up in that regard - but I guess their removable nature just doesn't really allow for that.

The new magnetic attachment system is super nice.

New mouse functionality works well from the little I've tried.

The updated gyro controls are waaaay more precise.

SL/SR buttons are big enough to actually be useable this time.

Outside of those points I think the rest is pretty 'samey'. Surprisingly, the size increase didn't really help the ergonomics that much imo.

As with Switch (1) I'd always pick a Pro controller over the JoyCons.
