What could Microsoft show at E3 to finally get you to buy an Xbox One?

Respect for its customers...

Ha ha well said.

I think some sort of appology or something of the sort at E3 would resonate well with me, though I'm not sure how they should go about it or word it, maybe do something nice for existing X1 owners, but not sure I can see that happening. I'm sure they're keen to just ignore it, in which case, not doing much to increase my respect for them, which imo has been an issue for me about them since like 2010.

Quite frankly the issues about them which I wanted improving at last E3 were:
Free Live (Though since then, PS4 also has paid multiplayer, so less of an issue now)
Make live better (Games for gold, discounts, remove pay walls)
Remove stupid policies (Like the disgusting parity clause)
More exclusive IPs (Will take time for these to earn justication to evolve into series though, which is why they should have started sooner)

At this E3, same things are still true, but since its been revealed, I also want:
Slimmer + Cheaper X1 (Don't mind Kinect-less or not, as long as they can make it around £300, though they need more effort to justify it, otherwise they should be prepared to sell kinect at a cost. Can't see a slim X1 happening now though while X1 is still to launch in some places, but perhaps...)
Some sort of appology as listed before
Not particularly a fan of the W8 design either...but can't expect that to change sadly. Would love NXE to come back in some form. Maybe it'd take some hands on for me to like it more, but W8 has never apealed to me yet.

At this point, to even entertain the thought of buying the XB1, MS would have to produce some decent new IP's. And im talking about genuine 1st party games, not buying up 3rd party games that would of been on the other system regardless, and basically just holding them hostage from the other system, and being like, "if you want to play this game that you would of been able to play had we not bought it up, then buy our system"... nope.

MS could make RPGs exclusively for the next 10 years and some people would still manage to exclaim shooter box over and over.

OG Xbox made its mark with Halo and 360 made its mark with Gears. They're also two of the best selling exclusive franchises on the system and MS felt both series were important enough to purchase from their original developer to keep churning them out as first party. The 360 was also THE Call of Duty platform even having a Call of Duty game at launch and continues to press the advertising and moneyhat timed DLC advantage.

It doesn't mean they don't host games or create games in different genres, but it's not unfair to paint the family of consoles as quite a bit more shooter-focused than the others.

Nothing.

It's like someone telling you "hey, I wanted to rape your sister and kill your family but now I don't want anymore, let's become friends."

Not going to happen.

Umm, what now? When did he say this? His studio's bio doesn't exactly align with Crackdown:

If any studio's doing it, it's Ruffian. A lot of the core Crackdown 1 team is still there.

Cloudgine, which I thought I had looked up and saw David Jones involved with that. Let me look back into it.

EDIT: Yeah, https://www.linkedin.com/profile/vi...me&authToken=2AL1&trk=prof-sb-browse_map-name, he is involved in Cloudgine.

Lol.... its kinda hard to impart any sense of legitimacy when you're the source and... I did just sign up yesterday.

I can tell you that there is a deal with Microsoft and Cloudgine for the project (codenamed Nimbus) that was struck back last year.

There is a bunch of other stuff I can maybe say that would make me look like I'm telling the truth too, but its pretty awkward just strolling into a thread and blowing my load, you know?

EDIT: Which was in regards to this post he made: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=98856901&postcount=310

You will get Crackdown 3, unlikely announcement at E3 this year, as it is a 2016 release date.

Banjo Three
Dance Central 4 (with DC1-3 and DLC song compatibility)
Rock Band 4 (with all previous DLC compatibility)
some form of 360 backward compatibility
lower price

Reduce it to like £100 and I MIGHT consider it ;) or Shenmue - dang that would seal the deal. Even a HD remake. serious.

Honestly though - I never had a 360, I hardly know anyone who has XBONE. As someone with a PC I don't see why I would be drawn to it as the exclusives don't have that much of a pull for me.

That seems really odd to me. The company specialises in cloud processing, has less than ten employees, and of those ten employees that are on LinkedIn – none of them are designers/artists.

edit: OK, I'm now in full GAF detective mode. Just looked up some of their employees' twitter accounts. They're all following TONS of accounts held by Microsoft Studios and Epic Games employees – and pretty much nothing else. Are we looking at Crackdown 3 running in Unreal Engine 4 potentially?

edit 2: oh, and a bunch of their employees are from Realtime Worlds, original developers of Crackdown. This is very, very interesting...

Grand Theft Auto VI
Half-Life 3

;-)

I just don't need a next-gen console right now and keep playing on my Xbox 360 as long as it is supported.

Kinect-less console.

I don't like or want Kinect but even if they came out with a compelling reason to have one my console would be in a small room so I wouldn't have space for gesturing and I have no intention of talking to any piece of electronics. I simply don't want it and I don't want to pay for it.

Very interesting. Nice finds.

EDIT: I had my doubts about that being legit, but damn if you didn't just pretty much confirm that he was telling the truth.

Actually, I think you should start a thread on this. It is good stuff.

Evidence that a new update allows the system to do 1080p/60fps on games, including those already released.

Full backwards comparability with Xbox 360 games, including my XBLA games. I still have many unfinished 360 games. This would push many 360 owners to "upgrade".

Announcement of something must have.

what ? you bought a system based on a game that might never be announced ? what the lol.

is crack down even the type of the game that people should expect a sequel to ? I mean its not Halo or Fable lol.
I think he means if Crackdown 3 was released, he wouldn't consider a PS4....I think.

Only a Shenmue 3 exclusive would get me to buy one. Fallout 4 is a game that would make me buy either system eventually since it probably won't come out til maybe 2016 at the latest. Until then, nothing wows me at the moment for either system.

Honestly if Halo 2 HD's multiplayer is on the Halo 2 engine and Forza Horizon 2 looks good, that's enough for me.

Yep with H2. Seems ass backwards for me to say i'd buy a system solely on the re-release of an existing game, but i love Halo 2 MP so much that i just might.

Crackdown wouldn't hurt either.

Respect for its customers...

This. They have never apologised for putting publishers and profits before customers with their initial plans for the Xbone. They changed those plans because they were forced, not because they realise they were wrong and are sorry.

Admit that you have the inferior hardware and price accordingly, stop trying to make Kinnect a value-add when it's really a noose around the console's neck re: cost to manufacture. Release a kinnectless SKU that is cheaper than the PS4, as is appropriate given the hardware.

Start investing in the industry rather than short-term money-hatting exclusives to drive out the competition that actually are investing in the industry.

Produce games that are more than simply for profit but try to further the industry. The Last of Us or Heavy Rain would never exist under MS.

Maybe I'm being too cynical, but all I see from MS now is that they want our money. They don't care about offering a good service or games, or pushing the industry forward.

Yes it is. Uncharted and The Last of Us are third person shooters. Killzone and Resistance are first person shooters. Not to mention MAG.

Uncharted Killzone and TLoU are all at the top of the PS sales heap. They are all shooters. And that's not even all the exclusive shooters on the platform.

You're right that those games made their mark but what reality actually is and how people perceive it tell a different story.

Probably nothing but playing "what if" it would have to be one of the following two scenarios:

With Kinect
  • price drop by at least £50
  • strong true exclusives - TitanFall is not a true exclusive I can get it on my PC. I mean available nowhere else but XB1 and clearly never going to be available anywhere else
  • strong Kinect exclusives - a reasonable number of really great looking titles for Kinect that offer a "got to experience it" proposition
  • remove all media and non-gaming apps from behind the paywall

Without Kinect
  • big price drop - say £100
  • strong true exclusives - TitanFall is not a true exclusive I can get it on my PC. I mean available nowhere else but XB1 and clearly never going to be available anywhere else
  • remove all media and non-gaming apps from behind the paywall

I don't believe there are great gaming experiences to be had with Kinect so I guess I'd be more interested in the option where they drop Kinect.

I'm not holding my breath though. I don't think they'll drop Kinect, I think they'll stick to their timed DLC and exclusive with PC too strategy and I doubt they'll produce amazing Kinect games.

Really I've realized having a decent PC cuts across so much of the XB1 proposition and TitanFall really made the point right away this gen. Biggest exclusive for XB1 yet I'd be better off getting it on PC. If you're only going to get a console then this doesn't matter of course and I understand that people in that position see the XB1 library and MS strategy very differently.

So you didn't like any of the Xbox 360 exclusive and yet you kept 360 only the entire last generation. Am I reading this right?

It's this shocking? I have mine for better multiplats. After the first couple of years, MS didn't release many games I cared about, personally.

Yeah, I agree. I was not sure what to say to his comment. Pretty sad really. He needs to step away from gaming. If someone is trying to equate what MS did to Rape, then someone needs a serious break and perhaps some therapy. I know someone that has been raped and it is not a good thing and for someone to compare that to what MS tried to do is pretty fucking sad, pathetic and is in need of some serious therapy.

Got one, but it's not even hooked up right now. Would love a reason to justify this purchase. A more fully fleshed out Titanfall with a SP campaign could work. I enjoyed my time with that game, but there wasn't enough content to keep me entertained, especially when by contrast, Dark Souls 2 hit which has tons of depth. So yeah, a proper Titanfall 2, and it would have to be exclusive, because if it isn't, I'm getting it on my PS4, which is getting a lot of love in this house. Or, have the rumored Project Beast be an XBone exclusive (which we know isn't going to happen). Still, something liek that would get me to dig out my XBone.

Nothing short of the curtain raising at e3, a weird looking machine is sitting in the center of the stage surrounded by a low hanging fog, Phil Spencer steps out 'excuse me one moment' climbs into the machine and disappears, all of sudden the diabolical drm plans they had never happened, the whole tv and kinect focus has gone, the xbox one is substantially more powerful and can easily manage to run all games at 1080/60, they have also invested heavily in first party studios and have a raft of games coming out in all genres with full support from studios all around the world.

Other than that i may pick up an xbox on the cheap towards the end of the gen if they have exclusives i want to play, Shenmue 3 and Shadowrun may tempt me earlier but the price i pay for the console would need to reflect that it will not be my go to console and will have very little use.

He's obviously not trying to equate the fiasco to rape, it was just an extreme analogy. He isn't wrong, just poor at choosing analogies.

Seriously. In no scenario can a consumer company pissing you off be equated to something as heinous as an attack on somebody.

Honestly nothing. I'm at the age where I don't have to play everything. A PS4, Vita, 3DS, WiiU and my PC is more then enough actually. Probably too much tbh.

As far as next gen consoles go I went with the one that is cheaper and runs 3rd party games better. It's a pretty easy choice honestly.

I want at least 3 exclusive games that i want to play, since i've another box for the 3rd party stuff.
The rumored platinum game is a step in the right direction.

Oh and a (substantial) price cut, not going to pay the money MS is asking now.

They could show $349

In some countries the console is $399...example Mexico Sam's Club is around $399 and includes fifa 14 or Forza and a $75 gift card.
(x1 cost 6,000 pesos, and ps4 7,299)

So its hard to know what they could do to sell more.

I think what they really need is just some compelling new IP. Gears of War was that for me last gen. I loved the first game. I'm not saying Gears of War 4, or HD Gears of War, but just a new compelling IP. Its probably as simple as that.

I already own Xone and right now i do enjoy the system a lot, I can understand why many aren't sold on it just yet. It is a solid system and I do enjoy all its features, that being said the OS updates are coming in great. But there is room for improvment.

For one I'd like to see preload come to the xbox one. I really want to get out of going to gamestop to buy discs. I'd rather just have said game unlock at midnight so I dont have to go anywhere to get it the next day ect. I work in a city now 5 days a week and Id rather just come home and turn on my system and have the game just be on there already waiting for me. Going digital is just easier atm.

More indie titles. I do like some indie titles and im not a huge fan of them, i would like more choices here and there.

Get rid of the paywall for apps. I have a gold sub but i think MS should get rid of the paywall. I could get an ipad that wouldnt require any paywall for using those apps like netflix and such so its just odd.

Make it more PS+ like for subs. Already xbl does have some nice sales but it be nice for subs to get a few free indies here and there and maybe a few AAA titles.

In terms of games they can do better and so can Sony for that matter. But this issue comes with time. Neither Sony nor MS has anything that is incredibly awesome for fans of either shooter or action adventure, what have you. I do like infamous second son but its not something i play for hours on end that sucks me in. Nor is Titanfall (even though i still play it more). I really hope H2A is an actual game because that multiplayer is legend. Id be a liar if i didnt say that game will consume my time this holiday.

I am just going to wait for E3 and see what both my investments have to offer to see which one ill pick up the most this fall.

BTW Banjo Threeiee would be amazing!!!

-$400 with Kinect
-$350 (it should technically be less, but for the sake of market realism) without Kinect
-Mandatory PS+ sucks, but at least they make it a good deal: Put worthwhile games/games I can't buy used for like 50 cents on games for Gold, not Magic from two years ago, not Halo 3, not Rainbow Six Vegas 1.
-Not TV stuff: I don't care, I barely watch TV, I don't need it in my game consoles.
-New IPs: Really thinking, the only big MS exclusives are Gears and Halo, both of which killed themselves. They need something more enticing than CoD DLC a month early.
-New Viva Pinata: Viva Pinata is my shit, make another one.

In all honesty, after the monetary sinkhole that the 360 brand was for me, I don't think I'd buy another Microsoft product unless it printed hundred dollar bills and sang duets with me. In my mind the Xbox brand is synonymous with chintzy products and blatantly trying to bleed me dry with things I shouldn't need to buy, like battery packs and wireless adapters. It's a lot deeper than their E3 DRM policies for me.
