What do Japanese gamers think of Intergalactic? Let's find out

Naughty Dog's newly revealed Intergalactic is inspired by Akira and Cowboy Bebop. What do Japanese gamers think? I've gone and taken a look at some popular Japanese Youtube videos covering the reveal. I previously did this for Oppenheimer, too, to get a better sense of what Japanese moviegoers thought about such a sensitive topic.

Machine translated from Japanese to English. Not an endorsement of any of the comments one way or another, just a fascinating look at their perspectives. I'd estimate that well over 99% of comments were negative.

Imagine spending years complaining about toxic masculinity, and then, when given the chance to, all female characters that they create, have all the bad traits of toxic masculinity.
This could be an SNL sketch, but it's reality in 2024.

As a connoisseur of video games, I will write it in my words...

This will be the worst Naughty Dog game.

I hope it hits Druckmann's pride and egocentrism.

Our hobby is under attack as usual.

It was the same when I was a child 30 years ago and everyone hated videogames and gamers. Now they try to destroy games from within game development.

They will fail because they understand nothing.

It is good that the Japanese are fully aware of the clown show the West has become, because this will make them ten times more alert to the wokeness of companies like Capcom and Square.

The downside is that the Japanese have more or less stopped buying games from these companies, so their opinions do not really matter anymore.

Still, it's nice to know they are fully aware.

That's the saddest part. Our 'enemies' are literally the creators of those games. It's unreal.

all u guys need to chill ur asses.

We dont know anything about the game yet. take it for what it is, if you want to not give a shit about it, thats fine as well.

But hating a product that nobody is forcing u to consume, really isnt worth it.
Play something else, i have alot of fun with PoE2 right now :)

Wish u all the best, the mental state of some people in here seems to have taken a big hit with that game.

I bought most of the Uncharted games... Crash... The last of us... And I even pre-ordered The last of us part 2. But this shit, I'm not going to buy it... Unless it costs 15 dollars or less.

I'm glad this game exist.
It's going to be super expensive on money for both Naughty Dog and Sony.
And the game gonna flop wich Sony will have to make a decision to clear out everything with DEI into the company and sub-company, when they gonna see Gatcha/China/Korean game make more money than PSStudio. (Not speaking about Kadokawa if the buyout comes true).

Can I make fun of companies being so completely out of touch with their audience to the point of filing bankruptcy? Thanks.

We can comment and form opinions on what we've been shown so far.

One thing that's fucked up about all of this, is that if you're a Western Dev who's making games like this, and you see where the winds are blowing, it's going to take years to course correct. Many games in full production right now likely can't ask for extra time and money to redesign and make adjustments. Minor changes sure, but not for something like the MC of Intergalactic, and god knows what sort of wildebeest of a woman Neil is using for their other game.

The American Western Games market is so fucking cooked. Asia and European game devs are going to dominate these next few years.

That one comment made me think.

Why release a game when you know it's not gonna be well received and you even block comments.

I do feel like this is one of those type of games where it's more of a passion project for Neil than making money. I'm just not sure how comfortable Sony is. On one hand you have one of your most premier studio and on the other hand, money.

this game is cooked, universally hated.

Only era members and the most hardcore Sony/ND simps will play it

Nah.....the reception isn't good, but it isn't "universally hated". The reveal trailer had almost as many likes as dislikes. Now that isn't a good thing overall as you would want a reveal trailer to be damn near universally liked, but no need to be hyperbolic about it.

Well the main character of the game is based off of a real life actor so....but regardless, if they are going to create a female character and make her more like a male, then they should just create a male character lol.

Toxic masculinity is only bad when men do.

When women do, is empowerment.

Wonder if people on the main thread discussion will reuse the same monologues here as well. Like "People never saw a woman" or "did people already stop hating bald woman" or "it' X pages and people still talking about Y".

all u guys need to chill ur asses.

It's a thread about what Japanese gamers think of the game and you already put "chill your asses" card in defense mode?

Let's pray that Kadokawa is bought by another Company... Nintendo or some other company... Not by Sony. Or that they get ahead.

The recent trend of depicting strong women and making them look masculine seems like nothing more than mocking women. On the other hand, I feel like there's a mansplaining at the root of it all, like women can't be strong if they just remain women.

I think that there's some truth to this. Western game devs just can't portray women as women. They seem to be stuck on portraying women as better men.

Looks like a man. The majority of the world is not for or even indifferent to this attempt to blur the genders. They don't want it. Neither are they falling for the gaslighting attempts.

it really feels like we've gotten to that point, but in general, these western game devs have totally lost the plot and are totally disconnected from their audience, of which this is one symptom. No accident that Japanese games are more popular than they have been since PS2.

In the trailer she's shaving her head because of some sort of illness it looks like 'she has a giant scar on her neck and has hair in a photo shown with the crew'. On top of that i feel like we need to see more of the game before we lay the hammer down on it and nail it into oblivion.

These times remind me of Evangelion the anime.

The first impact was Concord... And we were saved.

The second impact was Dragon Age and failure.

The third impact will be this game... And for the sake of the industry it will be a failure.

I like that they can articulate that strong women do not need to be like men. Women are strong and feminine at the same time.

Imagine have a beautiful protagonist and also confident and caring and kind yet willing to fight for what was right.

That are different people with different perceptions/reactions/opinions of the same thing? Shocker.
Inclusion is not the problem... But the forced and deceptive way they do... For example, I like the way Shinobu's character is from No More Heroes 1 and especially 2, which is pretty.

That's how I can say about several characters... That it's good that they put them in, but how they do it is annoying.

She looks like a bounty hunter who's been through alot of shit in space. If the story is going to be gritty and fked up with alot of trauma then at least she looks the part. As i said in my previous comment it looks like she has an illness of some kind with the giant scar on her neck as well which points to why she's bald. Again we don't know enough about the story to make any definitive statements or judgments about the game.

I wasn't particular talking about inclusion. I'm talking of the deceptive tatic of feign ignorance. Theres a multitude of medias where the discussion about this is pretty much divisive(which is pretty much point of the thread, seeing other country perspectives about the same thing) and the main reason for why it is that way is clearly because the character design(it can't be more clear than that). But nah, a person like the character and doesn't understand why people don't.
