What do you think is the hardest game ever made?

If we're talking about strategic thinking, I think chess would be at the top of the list in terms of difficulty. Although I never beat Home Alone 2 Lost In New York on Sega :messenger_grinning:

I cursed Rare after that impossible jet race in Conker Reloaded.
I will never ever touch any of their games!

A lot of 80's Arcade games are so hard, the later levels/endings was a mystery to everyone.

Now i get that most Arcade games were near impossible to beat by design. They were supposed to force you spend more credits. But then again a lot of home conversions of these games were just as hard.

Modern games never reach that level. Unlike Arcades, they are made to be finished. Even Sekiro.

Sekiro with Long May The Shadows Reflect mod by far. Without the mod Sekiro is challenging but fair; with it, it's a literal nightmare.

Usually sim and strategy games, but technically, the biggest map with the best gameplay mechanics. My personal picks would be Creation Engine and Frostbite Engine and modified UE games.

I can't even imagine. Sekiro is the one souls like that broke me. And I love all the souls games. So I wouldn't even try that lol

Sekiro is not a souls-like. that's probably why it was different. since it is not an RPG, you can't outlevel strong enemies.

Vanilla Sekiro is honestly not even half as a hard as lmtsr, I finished Super Ghoul's 'N Ghosts without save states and felt way easier than lmtsr lol

I tried to go back to it a few times. I think I'll do it again because I've been playing stellar blade and I like it. Obviously that's a lot easier than Sekiro, but I think that I can get into it.

Try to learn the combat system that's the crux of getting the game right and finishing it

Ninja Gaiden , any of them , on master ninja difficulty.

Though I will say anyone stupid enough to try hollow knight silk song on steel soul mode for 100% completion run is a special brand of retard.

I guess it's all subjective really. Plus, I tend to find that some games test my patience more than my skill.

I've been playing The Blue Prince on and off since release and in some aspects it's one of the hardest games I've ever played, especially since I refuse to use any guides. I may finish it one day, or I may not. It's that kind of game really, but I do find it compelling for an hour or so once in a while.

Ghosts and Goblins on the NES. The completely random boss and enemy placements are absurd. You can't even practice because there isn't a pattern. Even with save states, it was nearly impossible to beat.

I don't know but the hardest game that I've ever played was Ninja Gaiden on the original Xbox. I wanted to eat the controller in anger and frustration.

I think it really depends on the difficulty you choose... for example, there are games where the higher difficulty adds permadeath.

If I were to choose a game without taking that into consideration, I'd say Ghosts 'n Goblins.

Like half of the NES library lol

Can't believe an entire generation grew up with those games!

Ninja Gaiden, Battletoads, TMNT, Zelda II, and Ghosts 'n Goblins all kicked my ass.

They all have exceptional soundtracks, too!

It's probably some stupid hard NES game that isn't actually fun to play. In terms of games that are great, I would say the toughest stuff I've played are

Sekiro
Sifu
Castlevania 1

all phenomenal.

Well technically you are right with it not being a souls game. But I'm not sure the point?

well, souls games are as easy as you want them to be basically. Sekiro isn't. in Dark Souls, how hard any boss is, or any area is, all depends on how high you're levelled and how good your equipment is.

in Sekiro you have a more Action Adventure-like upgrade system that only gets you so far. so it can't be really compared.

in short,
Sekiro has no real RPG systems, and RPG systems can almost always be exploited to outlevel any scenario

Of all the games I've played it's probably The Adventures of Bayou Billy. Granted I was a small kid when I played it but I don't think I'd fare any better today.

Damn, I remember that one!
Imagine kids today playing stuff like that..

I was thinking of Bayou Billy as well. Played this as a kid with my best buddy back then, and we never even finished the 1st stage.
He also had Double Dragon 2, a much more fun game and a walk in the park compared to BB.
Fuck, this was about 35 years ago...

Still not getting the point? I mentioned Sekiro as my choice.

Way too many mentions of Cuphead. Game is not that hard. I 100%ed it on normal and beat like 2/3 of it on hard mode. I didn't stick with it but could probably beat it entirely on hard mode except maybe not the Casino stage at the end.
Contra Shattered Soldier on PS2 is a harder run and gun.

Bayou Billy seems impossible. Also those Ninja Gaiden games in the 360 generation. Sekiro is probably up there as well but I never played it.

"Chakan: the Forever Man" on Genesis might be the actual answer.
