What does Microsoft's July event need to do/show in order to make you buy in?

I bought in once the final specs for Xbox Series X were announced and confirmed. Playing all my third party multi-platform games on the superior hardware is what set Xbox Series X as my primary gaming console in stone. Add in their first party exclusives being a guaranteed 60FPS or better along with Game Pass and their overall direction and yeah, for me, it was an easy decision.

Even if their July show turns out to be shit, it's not going to change anything for me. Thankfully, that's not going to happen. After the July showcase, I will be even more hyped than I am now going into the showcase.

Short of going back to making Xbox only exclusives, nothing. I've got the power angle covered with my PC and whatever MS games I do like, I'll buy for PC.

Nintendo is doing everything in their power to sell the Switch.
Sony is doing everything in their power to sell the PS5.
Microsoft Xbox division, divides its energies between Series X, XboxOne and Gamepass.

If MS doesn't care to sell Series X, why should the customers care?
MS 's bottom line are Gamertags not units sold. They want you me and our pets to have a Gamertag. If they can have 100 Million subscribers from XSX/XSS/PC/XB1 they're happy. And as gamers what do I care if someone else wants the XSS instead of my XSX. Same game, same gamerpass access, I get the best version 🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️

I am generally optimistic about XBOX this gen. I like to bounce back and forth between platforms each gen. I feel when you are number one, you lose perspective so it helps when the competition sees what you did and finds a way to offer something better, unique, or more of a thing that speaks to your interests. Switch is basically my default right now but I always seem to have a favorite console each gen (nes, snes, PS1, DC=XBOX, PC (PS360 gen), PS4 at first and now switch). I really hate losing my library of games and the jump from 360 to XBOX One really kicked me in the stomach. I feel PS4 to PS5 might end up being better than last gen's transition but MS is telling me that my library of games won't be lost this time. I like that.

I need to see new games. I want a new fable. I want to love Halo again. I really want to see what the bc upgrades will do for my current library. I really want to see Cyberpunk on series X. I want to have a lot of surprises and I want to see what I am getting in 2020, not 2021. The PS5 left me feeling like they have nothing for me this year and it might be a good idea just to hold onto that money instead.

With LG OLEDS supporting G Sync and the rumored power of the 3K series cards I can't help but think I will likely be a late adopter, if ever, to next gen.

Let me preorder it. That's all I need. Don't care about the price. So far the XSX is by far the more attractive console to me. The PS5 looks great too but XSX will be my main platform. I'll get a PS5 if they release enough exclusives that interest me to justify buying one.

Day One, Forza 8, all my games move forward and get enhancements. Can't wait to check out all the original Xbox games with Auto-HDR and all the other benefits. Splinter Cell already looks awesome on the One X. Maybe Alien Isolation finally gets the 4K/HDR treatment as well.

PS5, gonna wait. Pretty sure there will be a black version outside the launch, can wait for that or a special edition down the line.

Cut the ropes with PC, scrap Lockhart, make massive story-driven AAA exclusive games built around XSX alone. In reality, all of these won't happen. If I find something good enough, might give it a try on my PC through 1 month gamepass or so.

Why do you care about them making Xbox only exclusives? Wouldn't them making interesting looking games be enough to sell you on their eco-system since you already have a powerful enough computer?

The OP is asking what MS has to do to get me to buy an Xbox. If they have games I can't find elsewhere then I'll get an Xbox. If it is just about being in their ecosystem, I'm already there since I own Gears 4, 5, Cuphead, Ori, Sunset Overdrive and Quantum Break on PC.

first, what makes you think most here prefer ps5?

I would get an Xbox SeX which had way better looking hardware, and better OS, if not only because I like more PlayStation exclusives, if I had the money I would buy both.

But otherwise I never marry a brand, is better to love games no matter the console.

There is nothing they can do to get me on their ship, I dont like their games and I dont like them either, quite tough spot to turn me around from.

Four or five exclusives that I really want to play. So far, I can just count one (the new Fable), so I need three or four more.

The only thing I want from Microsoft is Forza Horizon 5 with a map size like Fuel. I'll build a 7k rig just for that. But it does not make sense for me to buy their console ever I think.

you will play their games, it seems that this is the main objective this coming gen, to get as many people as possible to play their games regardless of what device you choose to play on (pc, xCloud, Xbox console). I am myself a game pass ultimate subscriber with a decent gaming pc (32gb ram, i7, Gtx1080,ssd) and I still play mostly on my Xbox one X.

Imagine if they used their Flight Simulator tech in Forza Horizon 5 or 6. I'd actually lose it.
I'd rearrange my whole apartment with the ultimate giga set up to accommodate for it.

One - just one - "wow" moment. The PS5 event just didn't have one for me. Lots of "that looks neat", and a raised eyebrow at the console design, but when it was said and done, there just wasn't a standout moment. All I need is for Xbox to bring just one of those.

Games that aren't Halo, Forza, and Gears, but also look better than Bleeding Edge or Grounded.
Their forced cross-gen already has me worried will see either prettied up X1 games or stuff that's veeery far off (HB2), so I guess it'll be easy to exceed my expectations.

Also no webcams.

i think we are at least 1 gen away from this type of games, fh7 with the whole world to play would be something else. I imagine you would select a continent/country and the load to it. That would require lots of NPC cars so that roads are not empty.

I think that, unfortunately, we will see grounded, probably everwild, and some viva piñatastyle games in addition to the big titles.

That is an objective that will lead to the downfall of the Xbox Console. This diverts owning an Xbox, which shrinks the 30% rent that MS earns from third parties, and will cripple the justification to spend the money on designing Xbox Series X 2.

I'm not even saying they shouldn't have small titles, I love 'em! But their smaller titles look a bit tragic tbh

Just a bloody new Fable game. It's what I thought I was getting my Xbox One for, and was let down.

A new Fable, and some interesting new IP's. But even then, I could play them With better performance on my PC as you'd imagine most would be play anywhere titles.

so idk, a good price?!

I'm already sold on the Series S with game pass, I'm poor and I don't care about 4K so it's the perfect option for me. Most sony exclusives don't interest me anyway

check if Xbox all access program is available in your country

I'm in the US so yea maybe. For the Series X, I might be able to swing it if it's $400 but if it's $500 or $550 then nah...

Honestly, I'd probably just stick with my one X if Resident Evil 8 wasn't next gen exclusive.

I'm already in, but lets see some fucking fable or something from RARE that isnt sea of thieves..jesus how can you fuck a studio up that bad

not possible. i buy a console to play games. all my games are on ps4. (ps4pro owner, 2x ps4) so ps5(pro)

and as a "backup" solution a have a gaming PC, (i9-9900, gtx1660ti, 16GB 4400ddr4, custom watercooled) and i believe that microsoft will make any exclusive for the xbox, for the PC (imo) that i want to play...

I need to see amazing games. Games on par with the exclusive games Sony has put out over the years. I love God of War, The Last of US, etc etc. For me MS has not been able to deliver on that quality level in terms of story etc. If they deliver that, then I will get the xbox one x. They don't then I am all in with PS5.

I know native M&KB support has been around for a while, but if they made a HUGE push for it, that would sell me. Get heaps of strategy and simulation games onto the console. RTS games. AOE4....help co-finance a new C&C and Simcity, support indie devs that are traditionally on PC.

Strategy, RTS and simulation games are the reason I still buy a PC. If you can bring that to console then that really seals the deal for me.

One thing nobody really seemed to acknowledge from Microsoft's last event was that most of the games they showed were new IPs. If they continue to show new IPs and a diverse lineup, this will also be a huge draw for me.

Games that focus more on being fun and gameplay instead of trying to be the equivelant of the movie industries Oscar bait.

Just show games running at 4K 60FPS. Maybe show Ultra settings for older games. Halo needs to blow people away. Forza needs to look amazing. Show a couple of 120 fps modes.

There is absolutely nothing they could show me to get my money. Never had any interest in anything coming from Microsoft and won't start now. I'll watch the highlights of there show at some point because I love the videogame industry but hate Microsoft as a company and will never support them if I can help it.
