What Does S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Say About Metro 4 Development?

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
So a lot of people are saying STALKER 2 was so buggy because of war in Ukraine. No I've heard previous installments of this game we're pretty buggy too on release.

Personally I prefer the Metro games and I'm really looking forward to the next Metro sequel.

I am concerned though that some of the same problems might arise because of the same conditions that the game is being in as well.

Supposedly the fourth game is in the works but it's going to be a while before we see it because of the conflict there.

Do you think we'll ever get to see the next Metro game? Do you think it'll be a buggy mess on release?

The first two metro games were great stuff. Exodus not so much (although I still enjoyed it).

But despite the similar style, the games are completely different. Metro is not an ‘open world pick your mission’ game. It’s a level at a time point A to B. Not as complex under the hood, and as such generally release in a much more polished state. I wouldn’t worry about Metro 4 in that regard.

However, yeah, I would imagine any game being developed in a part of the world in conflict is not something to rely on coming to fruition.

4A and GSC are in similar situations where both companies are now based outside of Ukraine but both will have family/friends/coworkers still living there however I wouldn't worry too awfully much about it as 4A is an amazing developer and I'm sure they will deliver (same goes for GSC besides already releasing).

Every Stalker game has been buggy and all of them are top tier FPS just like the Metro series. I know people didn't like Exodus in comparison however I think that game was amazing and it's probably my favorite "open world" FPS of all time alongside Stalker SOC.

These are two different studios with different approaches to work. And I also like METRO more, for me METRO's setting is much more interesting, richer and deeper. And I wouldn't worry about 4A, they have their own engine, which is very good + as far as I know, they have all been in Malta in a new office for a long time and work on a new project is in full swing, so everything will be fine with 4A =)

Founders of 4A games created XRay engine and worked in lead positions on STALKER SoC.
The progression from linear Metro to much less linear Exodus is clear, and I would not be surprised at all if Metro 4 was fullblown open world STALKER 2-style. Personally I would prefer it, since exploring Volga and Caspian maps in Exodus was best part of the game.
So if I were you I would not be so certain that Metro 4 will be a linear affair in the style of first two games.

I just hope they will finally let Artyom (or whoever is the protag) speak during gameplay, STALKER 2 is so good with Skif actually existing in the world.

Btw, STALKER 2 was in large part developed in Prague, and Metro is being developed in Malta. The companies are not dependent only on Ukraine/Kyiv.

4A are working with their own in house engine of which they are masters of.
This.

In my opinion, GSC should have significantly modified their X-Ray engine and perhaps even collaborated with or hire modders. When you look at what people have achieved with mods like G.A.M.M.A. or Anomaly, it’s clear that the X-Ray engine has the potential to be a powerhouse.

I hope they don’t go full open world. I much preferred the linear approach. But I fear you are right!
