I really enjoyed Unicorn Overlord. One of my favorite rpgs this year. Are you playing Fantasian next?
I might but not at launch because I still need to finish up DQIII 2D-HD. My attention for replaying Unicorn Overlord was not finish it but just keep me busy until DQIII comes out but man my addiction to this game was too strong.

Even tho I was REALLY enjoy DQIII, I was just keep playing Unicorn Overlord because I was god damn hooked like when I played the first time.

That’s what I’m playing at the moment too. I’ve got my party to level 39. A small break here and there was good. It’s a wholesome game. It’s good to mix it up so you start fresh when you return. As much as I love DQ. It is rich with its colors, sounds, and combat.

I surprisingly reply like Monster battle arena, it not all that deep but its fun and you get LOT of money.

I am ascending the 7,000 Steps to High Hrothgar. I am reading the Etched Tablets on the Emblems along the way. The third one is awesome.

"The fledgling spirits of Men were strong in Old Times

Unafraid to war with Dragons and their Voices

But the Dragons only shouted them down and broke their hearts"

That last part reads like poetry to me.

Finished Sonic X Shadow Generations. Really enjoyed my time with it. Still don't put Sonic games these days up there with other platformers, but I liked it a lot. The problem with Sonic games is levels are designed for you to go really fast, but then there are clearly sections of each level where you really can't go really fast. And to me it's like ok pick a lane. The stop and go nature of some of the levels can be annoying. I noticed this on the final level of the Shadow campaign specifically.

I never tried Sonic Frontiers, I may try it. Next up going to decide between Life is Strange: Double Exposure and Armored Core 6.

I've been having so much with Fable I forgot to mention all the other shit I've been playing

New World

I pretty much played this constantly for about a month after the console release. I'm scared to even look up how many hours I put into it. My super short review is this: game is actually really solid. Combat felt great, story is fine, PVP is solid, world is stunning, enemies are diverse...it's pretty much solid all around. It just does ask a good amount of your time. The way factions and companies work, the game heavily incentivizes playing it a lot. And that's sort the expectation of most Companies I've run into. Basically I ended up dropping it as I find it difficult to balance MMOs with other games and I have a pretty short attention span.

I do feel like this game gets way more hate than it deserves. I expected to find a piece of shit given how many horrible horrible things I've heard and read about it, and instead I found easily one of the best MMOs I've ever played. I had 100x more fun with it than I ever did with FF XIV and ESO. I don't think the p2w mechanics are any worse than WoW. You can pay for stuff like XP boosts, but just doing the MSQ will get you to max level in a weekend. And you can level any weapon to maximum by just grinding certain mobs. Take into consideration the game is just a one time purchase without any sub, and I really think it's worth checking out.

EDIT: Holy shit how did I forget to mention the crafting? This game sets the gold standard for what crafting in an MMO should be. 10/10 crafting and gathering system.

Stardew Valley

I decided to give it a go recently after hearing about the 1.6 update hitting console. Haven't played this in a while but holy shit have they added a ton of new stuff. Game has come a long way since it first came out.

Core Keeper

Really fun and addictive. Basically Stardew Valley with more of an emphasis on combat and mining.

STALKER 2

Knew nothing about the franchise but saw it on Gamepass so gave it a go. Game feels really, really hard. Decided to take a break. This worth playing?

I thought with the new update the game is much easier on lowest difficulty (Rookie)
I'm personally waiting for more updates to play it. But i've heard the game is good it's just the bugs dragging it down.

I started Monster Hunter Rise properly yesterday, played for like 5 hours. I like it a lot more than I hoped/expected to, with Rise being only "World Lite".

The movement is soo fun. Granted, the tutorial was a bit much (especially since I was stoned), but you get into it within 20 minutes or so and then blaze through these biomes like some kind of SpidermanHunter Crossover, which is glorious. I usually play the Insect Glaive or the Long Sword, but I somehow really struggle to hit stuff properly with the Long Sword in this one. Probably because I just suck. The daggers are a blast though Slashing around, launching yourself into the air and stuff, it's great.

Also, huge bonus: One of the Shrine Maidens is voiced by Sato Rina, who I adore especially since her performance in Koufuku Graffiti. At least I think it's her, didn't confirm that. Too bad so little dialogue is actually properly voiced, but I'll take crumbs too.

I will probably need to visit the desert biome next and kill my first Barroth in Rise. I hate deserts. All of them.

I tried to play Sonic Frontiers after beating Sonic X Shadow Generations. I couldn't stick with it for more than an hour. My fucking god man. I'm not exaggerating, there must have been nearly 100 tutorial popups in the first hour of play through. Before I even start the damn game, it gave me like 15 popup windows. Then every 30 fucking seconds in the game 3 new popups explaining shit. If your game--a Sonic game no less which is supposed to be simplistic and fun--if that game needs that much explaining, then you're doing it wrong. At the very least, have it somewhere on the screen that doesn't interrupt gameplay. It drove me fucking nuts and soured me on the game immediately. I was yelling at the TV LET ME PLAY THE FUCKING GAME ALREADY. Then when the game opened up, there were still popup tutorials, but the gameplay to me was just not fun. Sonic games are not supposed to be this open, I was bored out of my mind aimlessly dashing around. And even the load screens are move tutorials that you need to hit a button to exit. During the first load screen I sat there for like 5 minutes and I was like why the fuck is this taking so long. then I realized at the bottom corner it said hit the track pad to exit. I was like seriously? You're making me have to exit a load screen manually? Wtf is this shit?

Anyway, moved on to Life is Strange: Double Exposure. I'll see if I stick with this one, because some things in it are already starting to irk me.

I've got three level 80s now: Paladin, Warlock, and Mage. I think my Mage is my favourite of the three. I'm doing a lot of delves and frost is really fun in that kinda content.

Warcraft 1
Played the first few levels in the Human campaign. Fun but incredibly basic.

Trials of Mana - its gotten much better. Glad I pushed through the very slow start. Its pretty fun now.

Still Wakes the Deep - looks and sounds great. Tons of great dark industrial settings. Great voice acting. Genuinely pretty scary so far. Love how there's an input to look behind you.

Yeah, I've decided to bin it off. There are too many issues with this one. The puzzles are often absurdly cryptic, and the combat is in desperate need of rebalancing. The old-school save system (you need to find tapes in order to record your progress) only frustrates.

I'm going to return to Elden Ring for a bit, to continue my astrologer playthrough.

(if anyone is wondering about TS, the skeleton button puzzles, and the monkey thief were what did it for me)

Still AC Valhalla. Moved from XSX over to PS5 Pro though (great cross save ability). Looks better on the Pro. So much content though. Who knows when I'll hit burn out. I tried a few years ago and just managed to complete the main game. Now theres even more content and dlc's etc.

Jumped into the past and now I'm in search of some emblems. Thinking of changing my build because I've been using the same one for all of the game and it's getting a little boring. Might try something more magic-orientated. There's fire, earth, lightning, and water, I think. Might try water.

Excavation of Hobb's Burrow
Blimey, two pence for a pint of ale. I'm really enjoying this. It's rather simplistic in its execution while still being interesting. It has great pixel art, and a gloomy atmosphere, and the story has been good thus far.

Still Wakes the Deep - edge of my seat the whole time. Been pretty scary but linear enough that I can hang in there.

Fantasian - lower budget FFX. Really impressive so far.

Zelda EoW - really good. Better than I expected. Burning grass never gets old. Love all the powers you get. Zelda is incredibly interesting to play as.

Starfield - finished Escape. DLC quest. Really cool. Great voice acting. One of the best quests I've played in a bit.

LTTP on Cyberpunk 2077. It's okay, but I'm not really digging it so far. It's all tech and tough guys and a bleak, sterile world. I haven't read much cyberpunk fiction, but I understand that this is the general style. I'm not surprised or disappointed so much as feeling confirmed in the sense that this probably isn't for me (which is why it took me so long to get to).

But I'm only 7 or 8 hours in, still early in the game. I'll keep going for a while longer.

Basically, I'm wondering if there is any humanity or heart in the game, or is it all like this - just tech and tough guys and a sterile, crowded urban environment. I may opt out if it doesn't evolve beyond that.

I bought and played the game at release. I think I have 70 hours in it? I almost did everything there was to do. I finished just as some weird Christmas DLC was released. It was janky as hell, so I didn't bother. Man, that seems so long ago. It was one of my first PS5 games, and my first open world game.

Yeah I've already put a couple of hundred hours into at the beginning of this gen. Its nice now because it isn't getting constantly updated with settlement festivals and stuff. But at the same time there's a lot more content. This play through I'm mixing the combat up, using the dual wielding stance switch between spear and shield.

There's some wacky side missions. Like the one with a damsel in distress, who you rescue only to find her captor and her were role playing some romantic fantasy. And then you get attacked because she keeps shouting out of her tower about all her jewels, attracting some bandits. It has its moments.

elden ring.

beat the red/blue sword guy in castle ensis and got into the new area. discovered some places that i'll go back and finish. dungeons, enemies, waypoints, etc. i'm not wasting my time exploring as much, bothering with random enemies, or following side quests. just gonna rush through it as quick as i can and focus on the main bosses while obviously doing whatever dungeons etc i find.

still a long way to go. i play very slowly so it's going to be a while yet before i finish this. to be honest as fun as the game is it's starting to drag on (130+ hours later). that's why i'm rushing it now and have thought about quitting. i'll keep going for now but i don't know if i'll finish it. the longest i've ever spent in a single game is 144 hours (baldur's gate 3 and even that started to bore me) so i don't know how much i have left in the tank.

Finished Life is Strange: Double Exposure. It was ok. It was cool seeing Max again, but I didn't think it was as strong as the first or even Before the Storm. And it got a little ridiculous at the end and went over the top.

Started Armored Core 6. I'm enjoying it more than I thought. I still don't know how long I'll stick with it though. Not because I don't like it, but I can see myself getting bored of the gameplay loop eventually. But I'll see.

I got the credits in Rayman Legends. There were a bunch of retro stages I didn't unlock because I didn't collect items well enough. F replaying stages to win tickets to maybe unlock them. 16 hours is enough. Pretty darn good game. It makes me want to play all the others. I just would have preferred the time trial stages had been mixed throughout better. It was so backloaded with them in my playtrough and they take a lot of energy and focus.

It was exhausting to play because my nerves are incredibly bad and I can't hold a controller or my Steam Deck too long like I used to with ease.

Guess ill just have to walk a couple hours on my treadmill each day and hope that makes me stronger cause I want to start Hollow Knight and finish it in a week or so.

What time is it?
I finished DQIII HD-2D. It looks and sounds amazing. I love how simple, light-hearted, and earnest the stories are in Dragon Quest. The game was a 10/10 for me up until the false ending. I would have been happy had it ended there. The last chapter is a 7/10 with encounters full of annoying status effects. The final boss gauntlet is 5/10 and I had to resort to grinding after having few problems getting to that point, I was getting absolutely curb stomped. It's still fresh in my head and not ending on the best of footing probably has me thinking more negatively than I ought to.

I want to try to play through Infinite Wealth next but I'm not sure I'm ready for another RPG. Maybe I'll give the Switch port of Pikmin a whirl.

Currently enjoying Xenoblade Chronicles. I was starting to feel overwhelmed with all the party members, arts, and such, but it's actually all more simple than it seems. I'm also, surprisingly, enjoying the random quests. I went into the game this time (played up to the tree village on the Wii) with the plan to ignore side quests. I find that I'm actually doing almost all of them so far. I think I am a few levels higher than intended for my area, but the days of me caring about being overpowered are over.

I'm rushing to save Melia from her foreseen fate!

The game was a 10/10 for me up until the false ending.
Metaphor ReFantazio described perfectly. Game was a masterpiece until I reached a false climax (and actually got a game over due to wrong dialogue choice after 80 hours of dialogue choices being meaningless). I just pretend the game ended there, but the game is forever stained.

Did you ever got Duplic hat for you caster like Sage? It VERY useful, it allows them cast spell twice without any additional MP cost.

Nope. I think the last neat thing I got was from repairing the broken blade.
That’s very useful equipment for your caster, seriously this game really rewards you for exploration.

I also got Hero’s shield which you can get in one of the optional dungeons that doesn’t allow you to cast any spells, that means you can even use Evac or Zoom to escape the dungeon.

I’m last dungeon of Dragon Quest III HD-2D (I know I’m slow) but my god! Most of the enemies in dungeon inflect so many status aliments on your party like sleep and sealing magic spells….and sooooo much instant death spells, I don’t think even SMT goes this crazy with Hama and Mudo skills.

Got my party to max level and started with the "Brutal" VR challenges in FF7: Rebirth. So far its not too bad, though I'm guessing the "Legendary" challenges is where its really at. Also completed all the mini-games on hard (only had a few remaining). Honestly didn't find them to be so bad - sure you have to practise some of them for a bit to be able to execute a perfect try, but the only one I really found frustrating was the motorbike ones (even with a lot of practise I still didn't feel comfortable with the controls).

Also got quite far into Steelrising with four bosses down and must say that I'm really enjoying it. The combat doesn't evolve much but is sufficiently satisfying (doing a pretty simple "strength"-equivalent build) and does a good job of encouraging you to use consumables. Because they're actually quite potent. Where it really shines is in the story and lore. Most characters are important figures of the french revolution and are well integrated into the story and events. Once you bring them together they even get into fairly heated and nuanced debates about their ideologies, philosophies and visions for reform.

I'm so into it I started listening to a podcast on the french revolution, which is really funny when your reference for these historical figures is rescuing them from giant clockwork automatons :messenger_tears_of_joy: If you can stomach (or even enjoy) the jank, I'd highly recommend it. Will be getting the DLC once I progress far enough, to make the most of the game and give the devs some extra support (#SteelrisingStan).

Its not going to blow anyone away visually, but it does have some nice vistas and fun animations. If you're familiar with Paris, you'll definitely enjoy visiting historical locations.
