What game are you currently playing?

I started playing Diablo 4 recently, since it's on Gamepass. I never played Diablo really, only Diablo 3 for like maybe 10 or 20 hours with a friend, which was fun.

I'm like level 22 or something now and chose a sorcerer. Am I missing something or is this game both boring and braindead? I don't mean to be argumentative, I wanted to like this, but it's just soooo dull? The world offers nothing of interest, stuff you find on the map (chests, trees) is mostly worthless. So you basically only go from objective to objective within the main story. The story by the way being absolute ass, so obviously you wanna skip that. All you're left with is the "gameplay", which is like one inch away from being one of these auto afk type games for mobile. It doesn't matter in what way, form or order I use what skill. I could roll my head on my keyboard and win. I pretty much can just spawn a hydra and win.

like I understand this is very early game, but I genuienly don't see how people find this engaging. It's a chore.
If so many people can enjoy Vampire Survivors I am sure they can enjoy Diablo IV as well. I had some fun with 2 and 3 but dropped off when my interest waned. I will probably return to them when I am in the mood for dungeon crawling.

Sonic Generations is a lot of fun. And I actually have not enjoyed Sonic that much since the OG games when I was young, but I like this one. I appreciate the hub style format. Any other Sonic games have this format?
Great game. Still working through the 360 version. I wonder if Sonic Unleashed had a similar format since it uses the same game engine.

I usually prefer platformers that are slower paced and more platform-y. Sonic almost entirely relies on speed, but this has a little more of that so I do like it. I still don't think Sonic games are elite tier in this genre anymore though.

I stopped playing Still Wakes the Deep. I know a lot of people like it, but I'm sorry, I just can't get into walking simulators. I plan to play the new Life is Strange soon, and at least those games are much heavier on story and dialogue options. In Still Wakes you don't do anything other than walk and interact with a few things. It's just so boring to me. Maybe someone can sell me on going back to it, but right now I'm shelving it indefinitely.

If the narrative isn't capturing you, I'd walk away. It is a really short game though.

My progress with Dragon Quest III has been slow and not because the game is bad or anything, the game it great.

But I think I have unhealthy addiction to Unicorn Overlord….I meant casually replay this game before DQIII comes out but I just can’t stop playing UC.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Since I got my Saturn I haven't been able to play on anything else.

Persona 3 FES, which I've been enjoying a lot so far, has been put on hold. Think I'm on early September, pretty good game so far.

On the Saturn I've been playing...

Sega Rally. Fun as fuck. Managed to beat it on Normal, ranking 1st and beating Lakeside as well. Now trying my luck on Hard mode, which is way harder than Normal, can't even beat Mountain before the clock runs out.

Elevator Action, didn't really enjoy this one. Art is nice and so is the music but the gameplay is way too simple. Might give it another try.

Street Fighter Alpha (Zero) 3. Already played this one some time ago on the PSP. I like it better on the Saturn tho, game looks great on the CRT and the Saturn's d-pad is amazing for fighting games.

Haven't tried anything "heavy" like PD Saga, Grandia nor any of the Shinning games. I'm leaving those for when I'm done with Persona 3.

I got my first set of contracts in the Dark Brotherhood. Slight name spoilers ahead. (Yes, I'm stupid respectful of spoilers.)

I've played over 700 hours of Skyrim, probably closer to 900 actually. I have never played the Dark Brotherhood questline.
Nazir, Arnbjorn, and Festus aren't cool.
Astrid, Vazeera, Babette, and Gabriella are cool.
Despite us all being killers, of course.
Three contracts were given to me, to be completed at my leisure. I have a bounty at Bilegulch Mine that I want to handle first, and then there's the business of Mistwatch...

I’m currently fucking LOVING the VR mods for the Valve games.

Half Life 2 basically pisses over 90% of the bespoke VR games out there. Similarly Portal 2 is wonderful in VR.

Some of the best games ever made, rejuvenated completely by the new tech.

VR only gets truly great when you play something without the training wheels on for the people who get motion sick. Half Life Alyx feels dull and plodding by comparison, for instance.

I bought the WarCraft Battlechest. I was listening to an audiobook about Blizzard Entertainment. The term RPS was mentioned. There’s RTS and then there’s Role Playing Strategy. I’m not a huge RTS fan, but something about WarCraft has been on my bucket list for a very long time. I owned the original Battlechest with WarCraft, StarCraft and Diablo. These remastered versions looked good and there’s something comforting about those older games that always caught my attention. After playing 3 or so missions of WarCraft 1 remastered I started playing World of Warcraft because those expansions were on my bucket list as well. I’ve owned everything up to Cataclysm. I played years ago but only got to a level 34 hunter.

I didn’t realize how expansions in WoW worked. I was expecting a story/mission based path all the way to the final conclusion. Most importantly I wanted to experience the Burning Crusade and WotLK. I ended up reading up on both for about an hour. How I ended up? My level 15 Paladin is in Northrend after utilizing Chromie Time for WotLK. I figured out the content I really wanted is actually a raid called Icecrown Citadel. So expansions added regions to quest in, but the meat of the expansions are in dungeons/raids?

BG3 on PS5 Pro - only 8hrs or so in. And its great, but I'm not sure I'm into turn based combat anymore - yet I used to love it back in the day. I dunno, we'll see.

AC Valhalla on XSX - my guilty pleasure. And I guess my comfort food of gaming. Love old England being in it. And the historical flavours.

Finally beat and platinumed Horizon Forbidden West after dropping and bitching about it a bunch of times lol. Will probably make a small post about what I did and didn't like later(or not). Right now though, I have no desire to play new game+ nor the Burning Shores DLC.

I have get serious about Stellar Blade, I want that finished before the year is over.

I want to get the platinum for Helldivers 2 also, that will be my last of the year(only need one trophy, I could have platinumed this back in March if I was actually gunning for it. Got all my trophies except for one by accident lol). Only have the 5 orbital barrage trophy left.

Finished Mega Man from the Mega Man Legacy collection. Just got a sudden urge to play the blue bomber so fired up the first game. Pure nostalgia. Used to play this like crazy as a kid together with DuckTales and Metroid. They were the only games I owned on NES for a long time. I was pretty skilled at Mega Man and actually managed to beat it a couple of times. Fast forward 35 something years and I can't even beat Cut man without save states and rewind feature. The amount of bullshit that is thrown your way is infuriating. Every little thing in this game is designed to kill you, preferably in an instant. Enemies are annoying. Platforming is difficult and requires precise movement. At least the bosses are somewhat pushovers. When you kill them in the right order with the designated weapon they turn into a complete joke.

The last stage however is pure and unfiltered rage bait. Yellow man is so goddamn difficult. Took me at least 10 tries before I memorized his pattern. And the part where you fight yourself? Makes you wanna throw your controller into the tv. At least you get infinite continues. And Dr Wily is pretty easy. I give this game a 6/10. MM2 is way better.

Love the atmosphere, art style, and music. The voice acting is decent, too. I need to play more games like this.

I was in the mood for a visual novel, so I took this out of the plastic wrapper after owning it for a few years. After a few hours, it seemed fairly solid.

Kingdom Hearts
For some reason, I keep dying to Rikku in Hollow Bastion. I don't think he's actually killed me before. I'm getting old, aren't I?

I only played like 3 hours, but it's been a pretty fun game actually so far. Nothing groundbreaking (or even particularly great) in terms of MV, but it's a very soulid (I tried!) experience. Remined me of Monster Boy somewhat, maybe the visuals, it's been a while since I played.

Actually, thanks for highlighting the game, I'm somewhat in the mood for sth like that and didn't really think of it.

About halfway through the game. Gone from loving it to disliking it a bit. Massive difficulty spike. The bosses are just massive damage sponges and there is way too much stuff on the screen.

I am playing Rayman Legends on Steam Deck. Why did they make a 2D platformer where you can't use the dpad for movement?

I asked chatgpt (always the source for trustworthy info i know :p) and apparently it's the same on consoles.

It’s been close to 20 years since I fought Riku in KH1. I did look at a video and it looks like you shouldn’t use combo finishers. Just watch for certain attack patterns.

Finished Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the lost Demon. Didn't expect this to be among my top rated Switch games of all time. It's up there with Astral Chain, Metroid Dread & MP remastered, Luigi's Mansion 3, Tears of the Kingdom. Yes, it's that good. Gameplay is phenomenal. Clever and fun puzzles. Amazing combat and boss fights. Beautiful music and cool looking art style that feels timeless. Cozy storybook telling narrative. It also helps that the game channels the spirit of Okami, one of my favorite games of all time. Feels very much like a passion project that Platinum handled with immense love and care. They really knocked it out of the park with this one. Shame it flew under the radar. It deserves an audience.

Got the platinum. A warning to trophy / achievement hunters - this one is a complete slog to do. I like to eke out of much as I can from games, but the grind here was absurd. Lots of mandatory, boring stuff, too (such as the need to raise digital pets on the in-game phone..!)

Tormented Souls
Wow, the start of this game is hard as hell! I died so much! It seems to have gotten easier now, though. We'll see.

Finished my last cycle (6th) of SMT V: Vengeance for 100% completion so will be shelving that completely. Loved the game but probably would not recommend 100%'ing it, since subsequent playthroughs are quite easy for the most part (even on Godborne once you get to 150), but 2-3 playthroughs still has a lot going on if you're wanting more after the first cycle. The superbosses were especially fun to beat (probably not for everyone though).

I also got my first class to max in Space Marine 2 and had my first Operations match where people were actually talking. Game is already mad fun, but on the harder difficulties with voice chat it just sings. Incidentally, I ended playing as a low-level Bulwark because the other two players were using the only classes I had at a high level. But luckily player-skill makes a huge difference so even though your damage output can be relatively low you pull your weight if you know what you're doing.

Slowly starting back up on FF7: Rebirth and getting ready for Hard Mode, seems like the way to go is clearing the Colosseum first to level up a bit. Have to get used to the combat system again but really looking forward to the challenge, the Colosseum matches are a pretty good warm-up as you can't just button-mash your way through them.

Beat Hollow Knight over the last couple of weeks and it certainly lives up to its reputation. Gorgeous art and music, great platforming, satisfying and fun combat. I'd even say the story and world-building lands quite well, even though I would've liked a little more substance to the themes of the game (or maybe it just flew over my head). Currently at around 105% completion and will probably go for 112%. Not quite sure if I'll beat my head against the wall that is the last pantheon (crazy hard boss rush) or the Path of Pain, but they're still on the table for now.

Finally, since beating Hollow Knight and 100%-ing SMT I've been pondering what game to start next. Been extremely tempted by Metaphor Refantazio and Shadow of the Erdtree, but since I'm coming straight of both massive games and JRPGs I thought a little palette cleanser might be good.

So started on Steelrising yesterday. Been eyeing that one in the PS+ catalogue for a while. Love me some Souls-like and this one fits the bill perfectly with a smaller scope, smaller budget, and a nice dose of creativity and originality. The game is certainly janky so far, and the controls don't feel amazing. But it is undoubtedly fun. The setting and focus on story / cutscenes is really interesting, and the combat isn't bad. You're quite limited on defensive options compared to most Souls-likes (blocking/parrying is limited to specific weapons) so positioning and timing becomes really important.

Yeah, that's been my experience too. And I would've been much harsher than only "don't feel amazing". I played it on release for like 10 minutes before I uninstalled it, which was a shame really since I wanted to like this. Maybe patches improved the experience, I'd love to give this another shot.

also, congrats on beating hk! quite a feat. I find it impressive how people can power through stuff like that, I pretty much only finished the main game and dlc because I'm a scrub.

Bionic commando (2009)

This game is underrated. It got even better with the retro Spencer skin. Why Capcom/Grin decided to go with the Dreadlocks variant as a primary look bewilders me. The original NES look is far more memorable and lifts the game up from decent to great. I reckon it would've sold better if OG Spencer had been on the cover since his design/appearance is more eye catching.

The game is not without its flaws, since the learning curve can be a little steep. But, once you get a hang off the swinging, and mix it up with the combat, it becomes super fun. Its one of those games where there is actual player agency and room for experimentation. This is the kind of stuff I'd like to see more developers have the guts to do; give players room to mix up and get creative with the gameplay.

The few boss battles that are there are well thought out enough in their strategy design.

Overall, the game kinda seems to be a "remake" of the original. The progression and level structure is more linear with some thoughtful backtracking in some places.

Haha I get that too - I think I have a relatively high tolerance for jank. Especially with Souls-likes (100%-ed Mortal Shell last year and that felt worse I'd say) so I'm not bothered too much so far. I don't imagine the basic feel has changed much, so if that turned you off in the first 10 minutes I imagine that it still will. Perhaps stuff like game-breaking bugs and performance has improved since launch though (seems to run just fine at 60 FPS on PS5 in the frame rate mode).

Thanks! Though if you did the DLC (the final boss of The Grimm Troupe especially) and Main Game I'm not sure I've done much more than you. It seems like the pantheons is where shit really starts to go down.

I don't know. I don't think so. Can give it a whirl when I get to it. I usually play the first four games then I get tired of it. But if 11 switches things up or is more polished I'd probably wanna play it.

Putting it down for a bit and starting Atelier Ryza 2, see if I can finish it before Dec 9th and Indy comes out.

Go for Path of Pain, it's great. I didn't bother with more than a couple pantheons though, and I never went back to beat The Grimm Troupe though I completed everything else. So worth it, and I always debate replaying because it's such an amazing game.

I turned Fjord the horny Nord into a dual Frost Magic user. But I don't really have any direction for him besides fighting dragons. I wanted him to be a silly character but I'm drawing a blank on how to play those angles. I might recruit Lydia for fun, and I have a mod to choose marriage with an expanded number of NPC's but the horny Nord schtick is mostly in name so far.
