What I hope versus what I expect out of the Nintendo Switch 2 direct tomorrow!

Gamer79

Predicts the worst decade for Sony starting 2022
I am going to drag my ass out of bed early to watch this thing tomorrow (I have a different sleep schedule and normally do not go to bed until 2-3am) I am trying to curve my expectations and not let myself be so disappointed. Hopefully I am pleasantly surprised. I am a pessimist so take that for what it's worth.

What I hope:

*The Switch 2 is a powerhouse. It's a true modern marvel and insane how Nintendo is squeezing Switch 2 graphics into such a small space.
*All of the Big third parties are on board and just can't wait to release their titles on the Switch 2. Rockstar comes out and announces GTA 6 releasing on Switch.
*Nintendo games are just going to be insane: They revolutionized the industry again with the new Mario, New Zelda, New Star Fox, New Fzero, etc. Nintendo has been at work and these games are going to revitalize a stale gaming market.
*Switch 2 launching around June for $399.99 standard edition or $499.99 Pro edition (Amoled Screen and increased built in storage) New type of game like Wii Sports built in
*After the Announcement the fans and media are Super Hype: People are getting rock hard for this device. Even the critics find little to complain about

What I expect:
*Switch 2 has more power than the Switch for certain but not a massive upgrade. Games barely look better than the current switch model with 1440p being the real upgrade. Slow down will be an issue because they have to balance between power and portability battery power. It's an upgrade but most wont' find it that big of one.
*Only a few of the leach 3rd parties are fully on board. You see the scum like EA, Ubisoft, and other studios who just shove their shit on other platforms to make a buck. Big names like Rockstar "support" the swith with the likes of GTA 5 "Switch ediiton" With no plans to release their newer titles on the platform.
*Nintendo is no doubt one of if not the best developers in the business. Of course their games are going to be good but it maybe just more of the Same. I could just see like Mario Wonder 2, Tears of the Kingdom 2, etc. The Safe formula. It's not creating a sequel to one of their IP's but not doing anything special and just making safe sequels.
*Switch 2 launches in late fall of 2025 with a retail price of $449. The only bundle options is adding a game and making it a cool "$500." Scalpers will of course eat all of the unit's up and most casuals wont' be able to get a unit for under $800
*After the Announcements: Fans are lethargic. The hardcore Nintendo fans praise anything Nintendo does but the non N fanboy feels either disappointed or just mediocre to it. There will be a Split of many fans loving it and many fans hating it.

I'd love a non-open world Zelda game but I dunno, after the commercial success of BOTW and TOTK I don't see it happening.

Aside from that, I hope to see it having DLSS and at least a 1080p screen.

I honestly have no idea what to expect. I'm hoping for a new 3D Mario, but I also feel like that might be a later-on reveal this year for a holiday release.

I'm also REALLY hoping for Mario Maker 3, with the joycon mouse support.

It'd be cool to get a new Star Fox or F-Zero, but I'm not holding my breath.

I also really hope we'll get a 60fps update for BotW/TotK.

But really, I just want to know the price and release date of the system itself. I know the games will come.

Just great exclusives like new Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc that stays really exclusive. Take note Sony.
Maybe some big third party like MHwild Switch 2 version and RE remake.
Not expecting technological advancement, but will be thankful if it can run native 4K and 60 fps.

This feels more unrealistic than your hopes

Switch 2's specs have been confirmed to be better than deck. I'd imagine the performance & visual upgrade would be great.

Hope:

1. MCC + all ms game studios ports on Switch 2(and PS5)
2. New 3D Mario
3. capability to display 4k resolution docked even if just for the menu
4. FFIX Remake
5. Oblivion remake shadowdrop
6. XBCX upgrade on Switch 2
7. Mario Kart/Metroid better be there of course
8. Silksong day 1 on Switch 2(and everything else)
9. FFTactics Remake
10. Zelda collection: Wind Waker, Twilight Princess

It'll be between your two scenarios:

Significantly more capable than Switch but nowhere near PS5.

Bunch of new first party games but some are safe sequels

Several old amd upcoming PS5 multiplats (including new game announcements) but also PS4 ports.

$449

Those are some lofty 'hopes'.

If GTA6 gets announced for the Switch 2, it's going to mean either a massive downgrade of the game on the Switch, or a massive downgrade of the game on all consoles (to meet the Switch 2 hardware targets). Either way, it'd mean months and months of speculatory GAF threads on the subject.

I am mostly prepared to be disappointed and i'm hoping for excitement instead.
The little bit we have seen didnt excite me.

Still day one.

Hope: Literally just the confirmation that GameCube games, even sold a la carte, will eventually be coming

I expect:

- MK9
- a 3D Mario in the launch window (but probably more akin to 3D World / Bowser's Fury than Odyssey, or we'd have seen a frame or two by now)
- a Metroid Prime 2 remaster that will excite the internet way more than anything shown about MP4
- a remaster of Metroid 2: Samus Returns
- a Zelda Collection with OoT, MM, TWW and TP at 1080p and at the original framerate
- GTAV and Skyrim
- a farming sim set in Dali Village from FFIX
- LEGO The Last of Us
- Ryse: Son of Rome Remastered
- Silksong Tactics

So this you call "hopes" are just your feverish madman delusions (or maybe Vitamin D deficiency), and the other is reality.

I hope for enjoyment and the urge to buy many games.

I expect sadness, things like 1,2 switch and a console that would have been great if they'd changed 2 or 3 cheap parts for something better.

I've joked about the Fly Swatter mini-game but I kind of expect a Mario Paint announcement for the new mouse mode on the Joy-Con. I guess we could get something like a 1-2 Switch. I fully expect Mario Kart to be a launch title.

Hope: More new I.P. than existing I.P.
Expect: More existing I.P. than new I.P.

Neither will disappoint me, but it is just more exciting when Nintendo unveils a new I.P. along with a new creative director on stage.

Really depends on the game(s).. I'd definitely much rather get the next mainline Smash Brothers over stuff like RingFit, LABO, Game Builder Garage etc.

Op you want it to be a "powerhouse" but also $399?
At least be realistic, if you want it to be super powerful you should also be willing to pay $800+ for it

My expectation is that I'll be largely uninmpressed.
Then they'll show some teaser for a new Monolith game and I'll be like

I can't see any of this happening. The Switch 2 will launch in June. Hands on events are happening this month. Reports are shipments have gone out. Absolutely no reason to hold off until late this year.

As for the price, that seems a little high, although I wouldn't be shocked at 449.

Nintendo apparently have a plan to beat the scalpers. Lets hope it works.

Anyway, my biggest hope is that the mouse function is used by third party devs.

I want to see AoE, Sims, Total War (older titles of course), Company of Heroes etc.

Yes, it means they aren't resting on their laurels. It also means for every few experimental games you've just listed, they sometimes end up discovering gold:

That's the risk and the point of taking chances.

I'm also curious if they gonna announce new Fire Emblem game.

Say what you want about FE Engage shitty story but the actual map and gameplay was great.

Sure, and they discovered gold with ringgit as well, but I have no interest in that IP. Love Splatoon though.

But to each their own. For a show like this I'd much rather they bring out the big guns though.

This - Nintendo will be more concerned with HDR/dlss, battery life for the handheld mode and great build quality - and most importantly a great games line up.

As long as all that translates to games that look and run well on the TV screen. That's been my main issue with Switch.

Kinda surprised nobody is calling for a new Animal Crossing. That game sold sooooo many Switch units to casuals.
Iirc the team behind Animal Crossing is the same who develops Mario Kart. And we know we're getting a new Mario Kart, so the assumption is probably that Animal Crossing is a few years away still.

You don't need that casual push at launch though as it will most likely be in high demand and if we do get Mario Kart, that somewhat covers the casual base as well. I do think we'll get Animal Crossing in late 2026 though.

What I expect, a whole lotta of

Cry Love GIF by Pudgy Penguins

from Nintendo fans WRT the specs.

(And it's fine, no one expects them to compete in specs. Just FFS Nintendo, anti-aliasing is a thing.)

I hope:
Switch 2 hardware optimization 10/10
Bayonetta 3 remaster/remake
Splatoon singleplayer spin-off
Mario Bowser's Fury style game
New Fire Emblem
Shin Megami Tensei 6
New non open world Zelda
Smash Bros. Warriors
Burnout reboot
Animal Crossing reboot/sequel
New JRPG series by Monolith
New 2D Metroid
Persona 6
Dragon Quest Heroes
Dragon Quest 12
Dragon Quest Builders 3
Unicorn Overlord style sci-fi title
New Katamari game
Tetris Puyo 3D platformer puzzler
Pokemon deck builder battler game
Pokemon casual fighter by ArkSys

I expect:
2 cool games
lots of branding/marketing talk
focus on Mario Kart
disappointment

The Animal Crossing group is the same as the Splatoon group, but there's not too much overlap between the teams. The Mario Kart group made Arms and then spent most of the Switch era on MK Tour.

I don't see Animal Crossing being revealed when Tomodachi Life is next year.
