Wow 120fps and 4k support, welcome to 2019 i suppose.

Brand new games.. yeah they look meh

Impossible ports? They all look bad at the lowest settings, and you'll pay the highest price of any port.
Well Nintendo has it now, but it's still not enough? What did you want 8k?

For a $450 console this is more than enough. Cyberpunk shows the baseline of games that can be played on the console.

All in this tiny package.

Pay $1000 for a pro then if the switch 2 is so underpowered.

And the brand new games looked meh? Lol. Mario Kart is a day 1. Donkey Kong is a day 1. I'm think minimum 10 million sellers for DK and Mario Kart has the whole gen to sell.

A February state of play being compared to
A console reveal

Nice try buddy. The Saros reveal alone was better than any game announcement sans MKW

Too bad the only good thing at the Nintendo switch 2 reveal was $90 game prices and $20 upgrade packs

Enjoy
cant wait for the switch 2 to put Playstation out of business so we can see more meltdowns from you

6 or 7, Mario Kart, gamecube titles with online play, Kirby Air Ride 2, From Software's weird multiplayer game and Donkey Kong were the highlights, what brought it down was the pacing, stream issues, a lot of pay for upgrade BS, the fact that the interactive manual you had to pay for is peak Nintendo greed. So yeah, kind of whelmed, need to think on it more. Wonder what Monolithsoft and the others are up to, hopefully we find out this year.

The easiest "A" I've ever given. They knocked literally everything out of the park. Hardware, features, 1st party games, 3rd party games, backwards compatibility, enhancements (including enhanced GameCube games!), release date, you name it. No price is weird though.

Still, the best new hardware/new generation reveal in gaming history.
Your awful opinions are truly boundless I see.

I guess Neogaf gif
But we get 1080p in handheld and 4k in docked and up to 120fps. Yet gaf is gaffing and saying it's shit ?
SF6 the new DK game looks great. I bet MKW is going to be a banger and depending on the upgrade price I'm looking Forward To trying BoTW/ToTK in brand spanking new resolution and frame rate.

It's mostly a minority of outspoken console warriors. Look at the poll results; the reaction has been largely very positive.

I mean, I've been a Nintendo fan since the mid 80s and it still got a D from me. So it's not just console warring. I wanted to want this, but this is a weak ass launch.

It was solid but I always would have liked to hear more about the chip, upscaling tech, SSD and memory card speed etc. Afaik they only said "faster" for the last. They even talked about the NVN API at the Switch 1 direct but nothing here basically.

Excited for the new pro-controller with back-buttons. Want to learn more about the Upgrade Packs and in general how Switch 1 games perform on the new system. Love their approach of a dock that handles the cooling and upscaling. This seems to match all the Switch Pro rumors we had a few years ago.

Overall give the presentation a B. Mostly since it's great to *finally* see the full system reveal. The system itself is shaping up to be an exclusives only kind a deal.

They should have included a launch price in the presentation. Also, Donkey Kong and Metroid Prime should have both been launch games. Lastly, the Hardware Tour experience as paid and not bundled was almost as laughable as the weird disabled wheelchair game.

120fps support
4k support
Brand new games.
"Impossible ports"
Exclusive From soft game

All in a 7 inch handheld.

But that's the "worst" thing in the world. Gotta keep moving those goal posts though.
All are very, very questionable if the hardware can handle it. If it's true the hardware is on par between a PS4 and PS4 Pro, then it's likely the 120fps mode will be exclusive only to first party games. Don't expect third party games to run at that mode. And expect severe graphical downgrades compare to PS5 and especially PS5 Pro.

I put B.

I would have liked to see Mario but I understand why they'd hold it back.

Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, Metroid Prime is a killer lineup for the first few months. We don't even know the holiday game yet.

E for effort.

Mario Kart, being a huge disappointment, still looks nice - you can't kill an IP this big so fast. But graphically it's nothing to write home about, and the gameplay innovations, while not bad, don't excite me at all.
The Donkey Kong game looks the most interesting to me. Literally everthing else ranged from boring and uninspired to steaming pile of dogshit tier.

B. Some weird decisions here and there. Missing the chance of breaking the very mid, cross gen launched of the xbox and ps5. However the hw looks very refined and as my Deck became my main platform simply because I commute every day - this is a no brainer as I'm a nintendo fan.

PS2 Graphics! Worse than WiiU! Kiddy! "Objectively" terrible! Did anyone say Doooomed? If so, I got a Bingo!

OK, on a more serious note, as someone who doesn't get hyped for commercials (even hour long ones), it was fine.

- Third party ports showed what they needed. You had the powerhouses like Cyberpunk and Star Wars Outlaws, the crowdpleasers like Elden Ring and FF7, and important multiplayer games like Street Fighter and Fortnite. Are there things missing? Of course, but you can't just dump every single PS4/5 port in existence onto the platform day one. The breadth of games was shown, and that's all that matters. The expectation is that the Switch 2 will continue to get basically everything in the future, and that's all I need. Also, I kinda want to play FF7. So for me personally, they chose the right game.

- Not much in the way of new third party announcements? Unsurprising. Third party exclusives are mostly a thing of the past these days. Any big publisher that wanted to reveal a reasonably big third party multiplatform game in this Direct would likely demand a lengthy time slot, which I imagine Nintendo doesn't want to do for their initial reveal. Maybe in later directs. Also, let's be honest. While western third parties will likely see Nintendo as a valuable userbase with the Switch 2, it's not their primary userbase. No Western AAA games are going to get initial reveals in a Nintendo stream. Japanese ones? AA games? Sure, those will come. But people shouldn't demand something that doesn't make logical sense.

- Yeah, I'm disappointed with the lack of Mario too. But Nintendo appeared to be playing its cards close to its chest at the moment. For the last 7 months of the year, they have Mario Kart (June), DK (July), Wheelchair Basketball (Summer), Kirby (?), Metroid (?), Hyrule Warriors (late), Pokemon (Holiday). So one a month, basically typical output. Plus two reasonably substantial DLCs (Kirby and Mario Party). They might try to sneak one or two more games in this year, although I wouldn't bet on it. But notice literally nothing for next year (besides Rhythm Heaven and the Mii game). Is it the greatest year one lineup? Absolutely not. But in fairness, even if it includes upgraded Switch games, that's still 4 big name games plus 3 fillers. And when one of your fillers is a Zelda spinoff, that ain't bad. On a personal note, I admit there are no must haves at the moment. DK and Hyrule Warriors are nice, but not urgent. I just want Metroid and Pokemon at the moment. But then again, I don't have FOMO nonsense. I can wait.

- Gamecube! Soul Calibur! Fire Emblem! My desire to have every game I have any interest in playable on Switch (or S2) just got a little bit closer. Soul Calibur in particular was unexpected. Although there goes my dreams of a SC2 remake.

- While the paid upgrade for Kirby and Mario Party makes sense, it's unfortunate to see Zelda being paid as well. Yeah, I guess they added new modes, but whatever. For the sake of those perpetually obsessed with graphics, hopefully there will be games that just get a minor patch for simple upgrades and that's it.

- $80 for Mario Kart??? THAT is concerning. Yes, the console price is higher than I hoped, but inflation is a thing. Still, $80? The fact that DK is only $70 makes me hope this is an unusual one-off. $80???

- So far, looks like ~3-4000 third party games have been tested for backwards compatibility with a >95% success rate. And those that failed appear to be in discussions with developers, so hopes for a patch are present. In other words, near perfect compatibility. I'll take it.

Am I going to buy this day 1? Probably not. I can play Metroid and Pokemon on my old system. But nothing here is a turnoff. As expected, it looks like a worthy successor to my favorite console of all time and my favorite way to play games. I'll give it a B.

B

Stronger 3rd party support than I was expecting, especially with the FromSoftware exclusive.

Donkey Kong Bananza and new Daemon X Machina look cool. Mario Kart going open-ish world seems like it could be neat. Graphics look very clean at PS4 levels, which on the go will be nice, and finally not be aliased trash on big TV.

Wanted to see more first-party, and paying an upgrade fee to get Switch 2 upped resolution/frame-rate when PS5/XSX and PC do it for free.

There where an interesting game (aka Duskbloods), but other than that - nothing I could care about. I can safely wait several years till something actually interesting for me will be released.

So for me it was D, but trying to be obective - C

Nintendo shills are something else, A for that trash of direct ? geez

A few days ago I was attacked here by a Nintendo fan for being a Nintendo hater / Sony fanboy. And I'm regularly attacked for being biased in favor of Xbox. And called a PC Master Race guy. Now today I'm a Nintendo shill.

lmao

I give the direct a B+. It was good, the price not being announced during it was odd, it was a little light on first party announcements outside of upgraded switch 1 games and the Switch 2 welcome tour game being a paid title was peak comedy.

The game prices coming out afterwards brings the whole day down to a C- at best though.

C.

Hardware is what I expected. Software lineup doesn't look great though. $80 games are bullshit. Console itself is about $50 too high.

F, ports of games that came out years ago on other systems, a FROM multi game that's meh, without Mario and with a minimal graphical jump, disappointing.

Poor.

The really disappointing aspect was how awful the third party titles looked. Elden Ring looked like it had been put through a PS3 emulator and then downscaled. At low settings.

Extremely Easy S for me

Love Mario Kart and wold looks great, been dreaming of a new 3D donkey Kong and the destruction looks fantastic, want new air ride for like decades at this point.
and ofcourse great to see switch titles getting upgrade, Pretty excited for that kirby DLC.

Then we got the next 2 chapter of deltarune, again and a bloodbourne 2

Not for me it isn't

Okay but we agree that in general a Mario kart game would be a stronger launch title than Zelda right?
It just sells ridiculously well.

Does Nintendo just get away with Mid every time now?
4 remasters back to back of titles from 2017 to 2024, few worthwile stuff for first-party (Mario Kart and Donkey Kong), a paid literal tech demo, $80 physical games. Sony would be absolutely destroyed here if it were them.

Apparently the new Pro Controller does NOT feature analoge triggers.

Fuck Nintendo. I'm done. Excluding racing games from your system is too retarded for me.

In theory yes

Although I do wonder how much people will be incentivized to upgrade from MK8

MK8 sold amazing because it's a party game, not because it's some open world hardcore single player racing title.

If I just want to bust out MK to play with family or friends, what does MKW provide that MK8 doesn't?
