What is keeping you from getting a 360?

When alot of hyped games on your system are also PC games, you don't need to market it as one for some to see it that way. Samething happened with the Xbox.

Judge it however you like, but for folks like me without the kind of disposable income to incrementally upgrade their PC, PC-to-console ports are a godsend.

By poor mans PC I mean, the same games as the PC pretty much.
As Bory's said, yeah there are a few must have exclusives coming out,
But nothing to buy a whole system for.
Especially when I have a great gaming rig.

Though If MS can really secure a lot of AAA Japanese support i may change my mind.
But if all those AAA games are shooters, no thanks,
that genre really plays a lot better on the PC.
(Maybe you guys like inferior analog control for these games, but I don't)

And so far, of the games that are shared by the XB360 and the PC,
Oblivion is the only one I like.
Though I did try the "Lost Planet" demo and thought that was pretty good,
except it controlled really slow with the analog stick.

And for people that can't setup games on a PC,
I really don't care that you can't use a PC properly.

The stupidly high price of the system and its games are more than enough to keep me away without getting into the price of the accessories WTF.

I'll sooner get one over a PS3 though. 360 is getting a lot of nice PC ports, which is good for me since my computer can't run shit (it's a MAC!)

maybe ken should try this with the PS3 so that they can get around that damned tax hurdle in europe.

Is this a poem?

I think I have enough to worry about when it comes to life in general that when I want some leisure, the last thing I desire is to fight with graphical settings, shaders, resolution, etc. in a vain attempt to enjoy myself.

I agree that in many respects the PC gets the superior version, and I'd love to join you in PC-gaming-happy-land, but frankly, the road is far too long and arduous for my tastes.

Sorry if I came off as elitist, but I'm a Comp. Tech,
and I've just grown tired of dealing with stupid computer questions.
(Looking for a job change ASAP.)

Like today...
"I just got this Discman,
and was wondering what cables I need to hook it up to a computer to burn DVD's."

Like F***!!
You try explaining, and they turn out dumber than before.
I know this is probably bottom of the barrel stupidity,
but I guess the mainstream is really this dumb when it comes to tech stuff.

That's definitely an extreme, but I feel you.

I'm a college kid and I cut grass for the summer. I'm paying off a 50" flat screen plasma. I don't expect to be upgrading my PC anytime soon, heh.

Did you work tech support back in the good old days of the late 90's? I was with Gateway back in 98, and actually had one of those mythological calls where a woman thought the CD tray was a drink holder.

Haha, my buddy got that exact same type of call...

This one not as dumb, but still dumb...
A lady couldn't plug in some USB device and was super pissed...
Turns out, all she had to do was flip the USB over cause she was plugging it in the wrong way.
(I bet we both could pull a lot of these dumb stories out...)

And no, in the late 90's I was still in High School. :)

I'd say "alot" is pushing it...

That's fine that he'd rather play the PC ports on his PC - if I kept upgrading with the latest stuff, I would too...

But to label it as a poor man's PC, nah... the first Xbox doesn't have that much PC ports, and I don't even own a single one, despite slowing down big time on PC gaming around the time the Xbox came out...

Like I said up there, I don't see that much PC ports for either of the Xboxes to be labelled as a PC - and I, like alot of people out there, like FPS's on the Xbox... the majority of them are pulled off marvelously, plus there is an undisputable equality and level playing field there - no one there has a better controller there, or is purposely running with low settings to squeeze out more fps...

That's great. :lol

Hey just remember, us guys in our late twenties/early thirties were the trailblazers back then, so you punks could have it easy in 2006. Man, I would have killed to have been blessed with USB and peripheral calls. All we got were grandmas trying to use the mouse as a foot pedal or soccer moms wanting us to refund their money because their kid shoved a Fred Flinstone spoon in the floppy drive.

Regarding PC ports, I welcome them, as I do not plan on upgrading my PC anytime soon, wait until I have at least a steady line of income

I really want a 360 but there are some significant factors holding me back. Price is biggest, though it doesn't seem as bad anymore post-$600 news. I don't have an HDTV, a wireless network or other AV goodies that make the "360 lifestyle" so awesome. I hate the fact it's barely backward compatible. Finally, I have a good friend who has one, a mess of games and a dreamy AV setup so I get my 360 fix there.

All that said, I'll probably be getting a system as soon as I can. There are already some good games out for it (more than I can afford) and I need Dead Rising & Nintety-Nine Nights. I may wait till a price drop, but we'll see.

I'm waiting for my uncle(head of MS norway)'s promised gift of a 360 comes true - or I'll buy it at the first price drop.

-Worried about the reports of hardware breaking down

-Not enough money, spent a lot of cash on the E3 trip, and saving some to go to Seattle and Vancouver later this summer

-Still not too much I'm interested in... Trusty Bell looks fantastic though and the new tri-Ace game should be awesome. Of course there's Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. Geometry Wars is great but I kinda feel guilty spending $400 on a shiny new piece of hardware to play a $5 game :P

What is keeping me from getting a 360?

My allegiance lies with Sony.

But seriously... I'm a one console owner only. Video quality is the most important thing to me. And PlayStation 3 will offer the superior video connection.

So... PS3 is keeping me from getting a 360.

Right now what's keeping me from a 360 is the price... and the PS3. As much as it looks like the PS3 is shaky, I'm not counting it out. And I'm not getting both a PS3 and 360... so if Sony pulls out the definitive must-have console and Blu-Ray is the next DVD, then I'll plunk down the extra couple shells for PS3. If not, I'll pick up a 360. Basically, I'm probably not buying anything until 2007 (except Wii).

1) My roommate has one so its kind of pointless for me at this point
2) few games that match my gaming tastes at the moment
3) a huge backlog coming up for the holidays.

Price. There aren't any 360 games that have caused me to reverse my stance that $400 is just too much for the console.

The PS3 has more games that I want but at a higher price.

The 360 has a few games that look good but at a cost that still doesn't make them worth the investment.

Buying a $400 360 is just as unlikely for me as buying a $500 or $600 PS3.

I'm just not so sure about this "buying a non-Nintendo system to show you're a real gamer and not a troll-like fanboy"

Halo's ok...GTA's pretty good...Gears of War looks worth something, Too Human looks brilliant, but actually I think I'm the most impressed by Table Tenis. I love the idea of the XBL Arcade. I think it has more potential than the PS3 despite the incredibly cool looking MGS4. I'll probably be picking one up after the next big price drop.

I'll never support a Microsoft system. Between their highly deceptive and predatory business practices and the fact that they've basically bullied their way into video games with their OS cash, I don't consider them a company that's worth my time and appreciation.

On top of that, there's a serious lack of genuinely creative and imaginative content on their systems. Microsoft is the kind of company that capitalizes on existing ideas and genres once they've reached serviceable levels of market penetration. They've essentially built their entire business around copying and remarketing the sum of other people's work.

I haven't upgraded my PC in almost 3 years (save for RAM I got as a present) and I ran every XBox -> PC port that I wanted to quite acceptably.

wow

So far the games released on it that I want to play are also out on the PC. I'll probably get one next year for BioShock if that isn't coming out on the PC.

Already have one. The library is very dry right now but RR6 should keep me busy until Gears of War and *keeps fingers crossed* Lost Planet come out this fall. Haven't picked up Oblivion so that's another game to keep me busy until fall comes. Plus the wireless controller is sweet, sweet sex.

Too expensive and not enough games I want to play. Same reason 200 million other people in the U.S. don't have a 360 yet. Same reason I never got an Xbox. When the price drops, I'll take another look at the selection of games and see if there's enough to justify it.

Edit: And since I never had an Xbox, the weak BC is actually a factor for me. If I felt like I was basically getting two platforms in one, the price would be less intimidating.

Another thing that's been bothering me is the fact that a lot of people I know who have a 360 have complained about the Dashboard or whatever. They say that it actually crashes more than the games themselves! What the hell is up with that?

Given it's been out for 8 months, and it gets a lot of positive talk, this is a worthy thread.

There aren't enough games that interest me now, and there aren't a whole lot coming out down the line, either. I honestly thought they had a pitiful showing, for a second showing at E3.

Gears of War looks great
Mass Effect...
Too Human, cool...

and what else is there? There were no big announcements, no surprises, nothing to really excite me. The price is fine, i can swallow $400, but there just isnt enough now or even in the distant future to make me want one.

He said she said bullshit. Dashboard has never crashed on me.

Funny how people take stuff like I have a friend of a friend who says 360s crash and catch fire for facts...
