What is wrong with emo's?

So I was going to university by train, and there were some emo kids sitting in front and next to me. They were discussing emo festivals and stuff, and with the luck I have my phone battery is empty so I can't listen to my music anymore. So I was just listening to what they were talking about. And it surprised my how stupid they actually are. I really have nothing against emo music, at times it even sounds good. But the emo kids themselves are terrrible. It went like this:

Emo 1: "I went to Pinkpop (a festival) and it was so totally lame. 'insert random band' was so much better when no-one knew them. Now that they're famous I don't like them anymore. Why can't they just stay underground"

I mean, wtf, are they even fuckin serious for asking themselves that? So another one continues

Emo 2: "Yeah Pinkpop sucks, I'm now anti-Pinkpop, I'm not going there anymore. At least Lowlands (another festival) still has underground music. There are still bands there that most people don't know, that's better"

If you're fan of a band, shouldn't you be like, you know, happy for them they got famous? So another emo continues, the one next to me

Emo 3: "Yeah and have you noticed how many fake normal people go there? They all look the same with their baggy jeans, caps and those little stone like earrings"

Euhm are they even being serious?! I mean, all emo's look exactly the same. Are they still in that phase where they think the whole world is against them and they want to be 'different'? They were at least 18 years old, so they should be past that phase... God it's so fuckin annoys me when they talk to each other. Nothing but complaining about everything, nothing is right blablabla
 
Emo kids I've encountered tend to try and one up each other by playing against the miserable stereotype and acting overtly happy all the time. Which is equally annoying. But we were all retarded once I guess.
 
yeah, they're worse than Indy music douchebags when it comes to music and how "well known" they are and their "the world is against me" complex is 3rd behind Scientology and Furries respectively. it's really a pathetic bunch...

A lot of other people listen to shit music as well, doesn't make them annoying. As for the cutting, not all emo's do that, some don't have the guts.

If only that was true. Biggest problem may even be the fact that they want to share they complainst with everyone.

No not really. I don't feel better in life than emo's... I am better. I've grown passed that certain phase in life (well not exactly the same, but you know), and they haven't.
 
The emo people I've met are very annoying and usually can't shut up. Although I try to be nice about it, they just seem like you're just a disturbance in their own little world.
 
I ain't got nothing about their visual and style. Think it's kind of nice actually.

But the attitude...WTF is wrong with their attitude?!?! They hate EVERYTHING and whine about ANYTHING.

It's like having a hot chick naked in bed but instead of jumping right in just stand looking at her and slapping her in the face because its YOUR bed not hers. What!!!

Anyway, would like to understand the difference between emo and gothic. Maybe musical preferences?
 
i hate how these days musical genres have to have a type of fan or a dress code to identify them. Why must you wear disgusting clothes and act like a spoiled brat to show you like a type of music?
I pray for the day when a person wears preppy clothes, likes goth music and isnt shot down for not being/dressing like the 'proper fan'.

Guess they're better around where I live. I mean, sure, they hog the guilty gear cabinet over at the arcade I frequent, but other than that, they pretty much keep to themselves.

You know as much as I always seen emos on the internet and all, I never really encountered any since well I was well on my way outta college when it started growing big.

Recently I started working at a school administration center. The other day I see a kid walk in that was the walking definition of emo. The damn fucker actually adjusted his hair to block his eye before he entered the building. It was like he was trying too hard to pull it off, just looked ridiculous.

And what's "wrong" with emos is the same shit wrong with metalheads, indie kids, GAFers, video gamers, punks, gangstas, etc.
 
I was unaware that 'emos' or any other subculture (well not really subculture, more a marketing image) operate via a hive-mindset, I thought that whilst people might identify with certain images or bands they have their own personalities and a broad array of opinions and backgrounds.
 
Wow, that's awesome how you grouped all fans of a genre of music together.

They weren't "emo". They were "stupid." Stupid people exist in all groups. You realize you sound exactly like them in this thread, right?

I'm pretty into the whole "emo" (ugh) scene and I know no one who talks as douchey as those kids you're describing.

Didn't you get the memo? By lumping people into groups without taking individuality into account, we can say we're better than a greater amount of people.

... emo isn't the only sub-culture that doesn't like it when stuff gets popular.

iPod is a great example.
It annoyed me slightly when everyone suddenly liked 'Highway Star'.
Guitar Hero was cool before it got horrifically popular, now Rock Band's the in thing.

There are quite a few people who enjoy complaining about stupid stuff or using gaf as a livejournal blog. To me, they're basically just the extreme situation. Their teenage angst is way more important than any one else's.


As for goths, anyone I've met is nothing like the stereotype. They're always very nice and make for a good conversationalist. The problem mostly lies with the Hot Topic goths.
 
Emo is so hypocritical. The whole desire to be "themselves and to stand out from the crowd", yet they usually have a flock of equally pale and miserable cronies with them.

It's also stops being unique when you have an entire chain of stores devoted to that lifestyle.

That part that gets me, is the "emos" I've ran into are usually from middle class kids with good parents and normal existences. Yet, they get this idea that "it's not cool to be happy", so they start wearing eyeliner and wearing all black while listening to shitty, whiny music.
