What was the name of the platform Metal Gear's sequel appeared on?

It's basically a console PC literally. Where you plug it into the TV and it runs off an OS and you can do programming and shit besides just playing games. It was popular in Japan and Europe in the 80s, but never in the US.

Didn't they also make some kind of bastard sequel for the NES called Snake's Revenge? It was a total travesty.
Shhh! You're not allowed to talk about the rubbish ones! ;)

Why did the US never get into home computers like Japan and Europe?

And believe it: MSX was a standard carved by Sony (hardware specifications) and Microsoft (MS Basic).

Best platform ever, BTW.

You're not entirely right...

The MSX computer was designed and build around the 8-bit Zilog Z80 microprocessor. The MSX had an extensive BASIC interpreter built in. This BASIC version was an extension of Microsoft's BASIC. That's where they got the name MSX : MicroSoft eXtended.

Many hard and software manufacturers liked the idea of an international standard and began producing loads of stuff for this new system. Among these were Philips, Sony, Sanyo and Toshiba, to name but a few. For a long time the MSX system was really popular. No more incompatibility problems, everything worked, always !

Heh, that's the exact same model I bought last summer when I was in Osaka (except the one I got has "FDD" in red in the top-right corner instead of "F1 XV"). Too bad the disk drive doesn't work.

Oh, and MSX2 is the platform Metal Gear debuted on. MG on NES is an inferior port.

No it wasn't.
You sound as if you haven't even played it.

Nope, Metal Gear was an MSX2 game. I could dig up the box art which proves this.
MG2 was also an MSX2 game, but I think it took advantage of the features of the MSX2 Turbo R and MSX2+.

Your evidence. ;)

Actually I have, briefly. I found it to be rather unplayable compared to the first. The real problem is that it has nothing to do with the "True" sequel on the MSX and is therefore not considered "canon". It's like a Metal Gear Fanfic that was made into a game.

Check out these sites. No forest scene in the MG1 on MSX.

Let me tell some history: an American developer bought the Metal Gear rights of Konami so they could make some Metal Gear games on the NES. First they kinda remade Metal Gear 1 (with ulgier graphics) , in this remake they did a lot of changes.. you start for example in a jungle.. what isn't true in the original (you come into a base through water, kinda like MGS 1) there are also bosses you fought in the beginning of Metal Gear on NES when that same boss was actually one of the last bosses (the MSX)

biggest change the Americans did with Metal Gear on NES is DELETING the Metal Gear robot and putting a "super-computer" instead of. (so basically, you fought a computer in the ending)

After that they made their own Metal Gear game, not based on the original sequel (Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake) ... it was even a bigger shame for the Metal Gear franchise, Hideo Kojima doesn't mention that game because it's not made by him & it sucks totally.

Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake was über rare, it never came outside Japan. If you want this game you easily need to pay 200$+
I have it, you can see screenshots of the box etc on the following URL:
http://users.pandora.be/Geejmd00d/Metal Gear Collection/Metal Gear Games/Metal Gear 2/

though, I played the translated ROM, can't read Japanese at all. (and it rox, especially meeting Frank Jaeger) [you rescue him in Metal Gear 1]

100% wrong. Metal Gear NES and Snake's Revenge were both coded by Konami Japan. They set up Ultra Games as a secondary publishing label to get around NOA catalog restrictions, but it was a paper company. And Snake's Revenge was made with Kojima's blessing actually and in fact it predates MG2. Series timeline...
