What was your last graphics whore experience?

If you would play/purchase a game overlooking critical flaws just because it looks good, you are a graphics whore. So in your most recent memory, which games did you buy/play/drool over even knowing that the game was shallow, terrible, or just plain sucked.

Not overlooking flaws, but man WoW looks fucking great in a night time setting. The moonlight shining on the mountains/ground in Thousand Needles is amazing.

:lol Nice edit Ronin.

Well, this game far from sucked, but it did blow me away graphically when i first saw it. Virtua Fighter 4 arcade would be my pick. I remember the first time seeing it, i was so amazed by the lighting. Also, Virtua Fighter 4 Arcade was the first game ever to have realtime deformable environments, such as: snow, sand, and tiles. No other game ever used those until Virtua Fighter 4 came out.

Doom3 is definitely at the top of my list. Going in I knew that the game was going to be shallow because outside of Quake2, Id hasn't ever really made an entertaining game - just really pretty tech demos.

There are some classics in this thread though ... especially Rogue leader. Man that game destroyed all faith I had in Star Wars games. After that one I haven't picked up a star wars game since.

I will also very soon buy XIII because I'm a sucker for cel-shading. I'm not sure if the game is crap, but it sure goes for the worth of a small pile of turd on ebay..

Doom 3 and Half Life 2.

WoW looks nice, but damn is it a memory hog. I replaced my 9800 Pro with a 6800 Ultra OC recently, and I've got to turn down texture resolution or it'll use up all my 1GB of RAM and page file and lag like hell (especially in high pop areas, like Ironforge). I've just ordered 1 GB more of RAM yesterday. The hell I'm not using my 6800 Ultra.

Not sure I understand people mixing Doom3 and Half Life 2 with consoles games. I mean, sure, RE4 was awesome looking for GC, but it doesn't even come close to Doom 3.

I don't think I've ever knowingly bought a game that I knew was bad before buying it just because it looked pretty. The closest would maybe be The Twin Snakes, I knew I wouldn't play it that much but I wanted to see what they added to it.

Its definately worth the price it goes for these days imo

Rogue Leader.
Here too. I thought the original was so-so, but as a game to try out and show off a new generation of gaming... well, Luigi's Mansion wasn't screaming for absolute attention. Luckily I ended up enjoying Rogue Leader a lot more than its predecessor, so things worked out.

Nothing will ever top the sensation I had the first time I saw Virtua Fighter 3 at the arcades in 96. It was surreal, it felt like such a leap from what I was used to.

I spent a lot of money on coins to play it just for the visuals. But it was worth it, it made me discover Virtua Fighter and eventually I became the best in my arcade center.

Far Cry with pixel shader 3.0 and HD rendering. I actually fooled myself into beliveing that ii would be fun this time. Why the fuck don't I learn?

Far Cry.

I've had the game for about 5 months already yet I still haven't gone further then the first tropical area (the first beautiful area just 3 to 5 minutes into the game.) The game is nothing but a tech demo for me. Hell, I have more fun with Farbrausch, ATI, and NVIDIA demos then Far Cry.

I'm sure you had lots of fun with the tech demo that your avatar came from. He he he.

preemptive strike : Killer 7.

It has soooo much style, but I'm dubious about the gameplay experience.
And I'll buy it anyway.

EDIT: LOL, that's what I get for not reading the original post. Definitely Doom 3.

I played Fable for the first time tonight. Damn what a nice looking game. There are some great looking textures, lighting, all with a very genuine mid evil setting that absolutely rocks.

Ofcurse it may be that I'm abit bias towards the game though. I think I was sold at the point where the wife told her spouse that she was about to cut off his *pair* if she ever caught him cheating on her again.

"medieval"

was that intentional or did you really think that's how it's spelt?

DOAU
Not that i think the game sucks or has faults (i actually think what people like to see as it's 'problems' have become part of the gameplay since doa1, and thus shouldn't even be considered flaws, but rather 'features' you may like or hate) but i have no real interest in beat em ups since tekken 3.
I just took this because of the graphics, and watched it more than i actually played it.

GT4. Again, there's nothing wrong with the game, but i've always known i would have never had the time to play it, and i wouldn't have found it much more interesting than Gt3.
I'm just happy watching replays :P

Wreckless too, but i actually really liked super runabout for dreamcast and this is the unofficial sequel. In other words, i didn't only buy/play it for the graphics, i actually liked it : P
