What!? Wolverine founded the X-Men? Marvel announces 'The First X-Men' by Adams/Gage.

His current direction may not be to most people's taste, but Neal Adams is probably in the top 5 most influential American comic artists of all time.

I agree. His 70’s Batman work is a masterpiece.

That said, it's clearly time he put down the pencil.

Wolverine's overuse is the worst, because it never ends.

It's like if Venom was still being whored into everything Marvel did.

Cheesy faces aside, his current art is still better than a lot of stuff that gets published:

I wish more modern artists put that much detail into their backgrounds.

The overuse is an exaggeration. Right now he's on roster for three teams, and after recent events in AvX that may be down to the two he currently leads.

He appears in a lot of books on an infrequent basis, but so do Batman and Spider-Man and they don't get nearly as much sh*t.

i think you guys should just not buy this

what you should do is buy Batwoman #12 which will feature my dream team-up being drawn by JHW3

Seriously people calm down. This is a Neal Adams (new going batshit insane Adams) book, this has no foundation in our or any other reality except for Adams. Just sit back, relax and prepare to laugh at the sheer absurdity.

My guesses

1) Wolverine has sex with everyone and fathers each original X-man
2) Bomb mutant explodes first issue and they realize he can only use his mutant power once and Wolverine gives a two page eulogy for the guy he just met an hour ago
3) It is revealed Magneto's secret dream is to become a hairdresser and open his own salon
4) Wolverine is drawn shirtless with no hair on his body at all
5) Wolverine barely uses his claws, instead he has mental telepathy with animals and controls a roving band of wolverines that seem to follow him around

Probably. Adams still needs to hang up the pencil, and NEVER write again after his Batman run.
Say what you will about his writing (which in the case of Batman Odyssey is ten kinds of brain-melting insanity), but you're crazy if you think he needs to give up illustrating too. Adams still brings a level of detail and dynamism to his pages that is sorely lacking in the industry today. Just look at the page kswiston posted as an example: each panel is full of energy and perspective tricks and captured motion that makes the characters' actions leap off the page and come alive. You can almost see that cape whipping about madly in the wind.

We still need a Neal Adams.

I'd say you're crazy right back atcha. His stuff now is embarrassing compared to his great work.

Well they are already merging 616 and Ultimate with Spidermen so they might as well open the floodgates. Not too mention adding Miles Morales in Spiderman Season 1, which is considered cannon as well.

The clone bullshit is starting to look less and less stupid as time goes on.

There are a lot of ugly stylistic quirks in Adams' recent art, but he still pulls off some amazing work in terms of layouts.

That page Spike posted is a great example of this. Great sense of pace and motion, however little quirks like the floppy ears are too distracting.

I for one rather liked this photoshop. I give you applause.

Also, wolverine doesn't need to be in everything... I honestly don't think he's interesting enough to carry every fucking superhero team in the marvel universe.... Just use him in the xmen and give him a solo comic and everyonce in awhile go with the avengers.

Marvel is now Wolverine Comics.

It's a timely prediction.

Wolverine Comics vs Capcom 4.

I'm okay with this.jpg

Also while Wolverine may have been there back then, him "starting the X-men" seems really weird to me.

I want two things:

1) For Wolverine to stop being in everything
2) For someone to write Wolverine well, so as to showcase his fighting skills. Take him away from the teams he's on if necessary.

Well he did take a backseat for a while when Marvel was stuffing Deadpool into everything they had, but I think that ships sailed.

bad art, stop putting Wolverine in the spotlight of everything

please. thanks.

they must think we're idiots. idiots with money.

edit: ohh, this is "Batman Odyssey" Neil Adams. Get ready for a leering Wolverine looking at the fourth wall and telling dirty jokes about Madripoorian masseuses then. And also dazzling Xavier with his manly chest, inspiring the Xmen years later. It's like a 'What If/What The?!' mix. I'm in. Where are my sunglasses?

Yep, looks like I made the right choice last year to ignore all this and go back to Uncanny Masterworks TPBs. 70s Marvel is the best Marvel.

This seems like an incredibly stupid idea. How is this not just a massive retcon?

It is a massive retcon. What about Charles and Magneto meeting in Africa? Charles' disastrous relationship with Amelia Voght? Charles meeting Storm and confronting the Shadow King? All that out the window? Why are Wolverine and Sabretooth working together for a common good, they've hated each other for decades.

My favorite is blatantly taking a picture of a hippopotamus and drawing black lines over it instead of just drawing a hippopotamus:

God damn Batman Odyssey is crazy.

They already did that, it was called the 80's. New Wolvie ground will never be tread again. Thank
Apocalypse for the collected works of Byrne and Claremont, wherein lies the true berserker everyone thinks they know about.
