Nothing would make me change over to anything exclusively. The only platform I won't be purchasing anymore is Xbox and I owned a Series X until a few weeks ago.

All the popular platforms have their own strengths and weaknesses....and thinking otherwise is foolish.

Having multiple (if you can afford it) is always the right choice.

As much as I love the sheer unbeatable handiness of gaming on my PS5, I mean grab controller and hit button and by the time my ass is reclined on my sofa the TV & Soundbar switches on, channel switches and I'm in the game, you simply can't get anywhere near that with PC Gaming, you need to be anchored to a desk looking at a monitor ffs it's not the same as my 55" OLED and Atmos BBBBUUUUUUT....

All these latest releases with the incredible Ray Traced Global Illumination and other RT effects only possible on a top spec PC is really starting to itch my trigger finger, the PS5 Pro is simply not showing any real RT improvements imo to make it worth purchasing AND if I was to consider it I'd definitely consider simply putting that money towards building a PC, I'm not fully there yet, I still enjoy my PS5 but if every game coming out is night and day difference like the new Indiana Game, I may have to start looking into it a bit more

The issue is you might not have the time keeping up with all the release on multiple systems.

I only have PS5 and Switch and it’s still really hard to keeping up.
On a side note. I find it perplexing when people say there is nothing good to play.

Trust me, if you had a Xbox there's be nothing much to keep up with. :messenger_weary:
If you have a PS5 and a decent PC, there is no reason to own an Xbox imo. Which is why it's the only one I won't be supporting in the future.

Utter nonsense...

My PC switches between monitor and home cinema at the press of a button.....
The incredible alien tech... Of an additional hdmi and USB cable.
And you can also always build a smaller form factor pc for the living room if that's your fancy ...

Steam Deck was the primary reason for me switching this summer, selling my PS5 and using the money towards it. Having a simple all-in-one PC hardware at the right price made it easy. The AAA games released from Sony and Microsoft have been largely a letdown to me, and their announced games don’t excite me. My tastes have moved to gameplay focused indie and AA games, it seems. I bore easily from cinematics, open worlds, slow walk and talk, push through a crevice, and QTEs. I will still likely get a Switch 2 as my wife has interest in Mario Kart, which I also enjoyed a lot when I had a Wii U.

As someone who primarily plays on PC but keeps buying PlayStation consoles for a few exclusives, I would stop buying them if those exclusives came to PC more quickly. Or it was made clear that all the games would eventually get a PC release a year later. Right now, they just don't talk about it and some exclusives come to PC, others don't. The timing of when the PC ports show up also seems unpredictable and random.

I bought the PS4 for Bloodborne. I bought the PS5 for Demon's Souls. If Sony doesn't give me an exclusive From Software game for future consoles, I don't see myself buying them.

This is where I'm at as well. I sold my Series X a few months ago because there just isn't a good reason to own both. I used that $300 to buy PSN/Steam cards instead.

None of those reasons in the poll are compelling imo. PC is compelling for other reasons. I will eventually migrate, but I’m waiting for certain (inevitable) advancements (primarily around AI tools) before I finally tell Sony to fuck off forever. I honestly despise modern Sony. Ironically I still like Naughty Dog and Druckman (he’s not a controversial person; so many of you guys on here are total dorks about this) but after Factions was canceled, and their current tease was underwhelming and imo intentionally antagonistic… I’m having doubts.

Console wars are already strange, then we add PC gamers for some reason. We have wars over how you even buy media: digital vs physical, and you have to be all in one one. We have people fighting over controllers. Over which games are which.

I wonder if, as the MS vs. Sony console war fades away, people who like warring will shift to PC vs console. I think some people really like engaging in the "my platform is better than your platform" arguments. As the traditional console war dies, bored warriors may seek a new battlefield.

The Nintendo ecosystem is the only really true console environment left.
Microsoft and Sony don't have much of an exclusive software ecosystem anymore, and the games are released just as broken on consoles as they are on PCs nowadays.
Xbox and Playstation are just the cheaper* alternative to PC gaming really.
(* : not really on the medium-long term if you consider the software price, though the entry ticket to get into PC gaming has skyrocketed over the past 5 years)

I would happily game on PC right now if it wasn't such a faff.

I bought my kid a gaming laptop and everytime she turns it on it needs update after update, then it has to email me an authentication number, then she has multiple passwords, then the sound is off and I have to go into the control panel etc etc etc

I have an abundance of disposable income to buy a great topend PC but it's such a faff.

Honestly, none of the options in the pole individually would tempt me that much. If all of them happened and PC was as cheap as a console per spec and there was somehow no more headaches than console I’d be down for it.

All of the above which has already happened

Sony/MS systems are a scam
All of the above have happened? What world do you live in?

Release of all console exclusives on PC Day 1.

No Nintendo games are released on PC let alone day 1, and no real PlayStation exclusives have been day 1 outside of like Helldivers, and that shitty Lego game (MLB doesn't count since that isn't their decision).

Consoles abandoning backwards compatibility again.

Xbox and PlayStation have both worked on BC. It's not perfect, and it obviously can't be like PC BC but it still exists in some way shape or form. Plus the point was them abandoning it going forward which with the move to x86 would only happen if they go ARM.

Consoles abandoning physical media.

Physical media hasn't been abandoned at all. None of the 3 have gotten rid of discs drives or stopped producing discs.

Consoles significantly becoming more expensive.

This hasn't happened whether you want to use the PS5 Pro as an example or not because it's not the mainline/flagship console. The PS5 released at $500 ($400 for digital but physical version is a better comparison to PS4) which is only $100 more then the PS4 7 years prior which if you remove inflation from the equation is less then $50 more which is not significant by any means.

Lets talk GPUs then, and lets not use the XX90 series because that is a niche product just like the PS5 Pro. If you take the GTX 970 which was released in September of 2014 IIRC at $329. The RTX 3070 released at $499 which when you cut out inflation is just above a $50 increase. This is me cherry picking the best possible scenario for GPU pricing because if we start talking high end cards then it's worse.

So both had a similar increase in pricing which is basically me saying that console pricing has shown no indication of major price increases anymore then other "comparable" electronics, and until Sony/MS/Nintendo release their next consoles we are unable to compare further.

Why is it always one thing versus the other? Gaming is gaming.

I grew up playing on consoles because of the 80s and because of convenience and lack of income as a child.

As soon as I started having some money I invested in more gaming - which meant more systems to play on.

PC became the logical central place, as it has almost every game in existence.

Might as well list why I game on console at all....

-Physical media
-Trophies
-Exclusives (real ones)

Even without exclusives, physical media and trophies would keep in me interested in PlayStation.

Day one simultaneous releases would make any console an expensive paperweight, so pretty much that, I really don't like PC for gaming and now even my phone is doing mundane stuff I used to do only on PC, but mobile gaming is trash so I'd be forced to go PC

PC'S are an investment and I will swiftly make my money back through considerably cheaper ways to obtain games some of which I will not discuss and not having to pay for an online subscription

The PS5 has 14 games that I cannot play on anything else which is fucking pathetic compared to the hundreds of multi-player games, emulated games, modded games and indie games that will never be on home consoles

Sony/MS systems are a joke and anybody buying them over deciding to build their own PC is either an ignorant consumer or it too lazy to watch a 30 minute tutorial

So, it's not that all of the above have already happened like you originally stated? Okay cool.

The whole fact you decide to just go straight to calling people ignorant/lazy and putting them down for choosing what you don't choose tells me everything I need to know about your levels of intelligence. Plus we know you mean theft when you says "some of which I will not discuss" so we don't need to argue about you being of similar ilk as how you see console players.

Don't bother responding because I'm not going to bother going forward. I just wanted to call out your bullshit.

I already mostly game on PC, but I also have all the consoles.

In the case of PS5 it's overwhelmingly just about the exclusives, that's basically all I use my PS5 for. If every PS5 game was Day 1 on PC I would probably not bother with the PS5.

The Xbox serves as kind of a secondary family console for the living room and I like that GamePass lets me do cross saves and even cross buy on PC so it's complementary to my PC gaming.

I’m glad you took the time to reprimand this bonehead, saves me doing it, The whole, “PC is great because I pirate games” is super gross, thought advocating piracy was bannable here but maybe I’m thinking of another forum. And then he closes with the most ridiculous edgelord PCMR comment.

I've gone PC already because it's abundantly clear that console exclusives are pretty much a thing of the past. Why would I stay in a closed off eco-system, run by a corporation who wants to fleece me of as much money as possible, when I can game on a more open platform, with a wider range of games?

It used to be physical media keeping me on console, but with more and more games simply being unplayable off the disc without extensive patching, it's no longer really a factor. The end of an era. So, the thing that would push me to PC mainline will be cost.

Xbox is done with consoles altogether, so their hardware prices are about to skyrocket as they shift to making pre-built PCs. Their software sales are decent, but frankly, still disappointing compared to the PC space. Game Pass is the only thing keeping Xbox relevant cost wise, which means Game Pass prices will go up, like Netflix and YouTube, as Microsoft seeks to make more profit quarter after quarter. As we've seen with this generation, Sony's done taking losses on their hardware, and is keen to push pricing up for everything. They're also keen to re-release games multiple times to keep their prices as high as possible. PSN sales are often disappointing and still not close to what's possible on PC. Right now, we're eying AUD$1,200.00 console hardware, AUD$125.00 games, subscription multiplayer and cloud saves, and hardware going up in price across a generation.
Next gen, with Xbox bowing out, I imagine it'll only get worse. Who knows what the ceiling will be. Depending on how high Sony goes, I could simply invest in a GPU upgrade for my Desktop, enjoy all my existing games looking and playing better, enjoy all modern titles on above-console settings, and game with free multiplayer and cheaper games. Across a generation, it actually might actually end up cheaper. And if that happens, there's no going back.

I think this question is phrased wrong.

It should be what would make you go from PC to console....

I mean 30fps and lesser graphics is good and all but......

Then again, it's all about exclusives!

Abandoning physical media and as easy to play on a console than on a PC. Bugs and poor optimisation is something I really hate about PC gaming

The direction Xbox was going decided my future with them- I went gaming PC and sold my Series X. I still have my PS5 (Pro) and Switch and will stick with that combo. I mainly game on Steam on my PC and try not to support Microsoft on their app on PC. I really was an Xbox gamer and the way they're treating console gamers has left a very sour taste in my mouth. So much so that I decided to go back to PC gaming and reluctantly stay with Sony on consoles. Nintendo I will always love and they remain a constant in my life.

For me to go only PC:

- console abandon physical media
- exclusives day 1 on PC.

I don’t believe in keeping all my eggs in one basket though, so gonna be PS and PC until PS6 comes out then I’ll reevaluate.

I mostly game on PC. I certainly thought about not getting a PS5. When the PS6 comes out, I might just build a second computer and hook it up to my TV instead. My playstation + autoresubbed yesterday and it was nearly $200. I get almost no use out of PS+.

Well......lets put it this way.
Pc gaming is luxury. And as we see newer and newer cards getting also more epxensive and for the last 4 years the top end cards kept going up in price.
But those super cards dont add too much to justify the cost. As in when i am happy with what i have, and nag away on small stuff that i can live with, i dont see how shelling out more money would give me a big jump in my experience.

I understand what i have and i understand i am ok with it. And as long as i am ok with it i wont upgrade.

Where I live at least it is cheaper for me to have all the current consoles than to try to build a decent gaming PC. However I am paying attention to the world of handheld PCs like the Steam Deck and might consider it in the future when a newer model comes out.
