What Would You Give Up: TV, Cell or Web?

Cell, first i would say TV, but how far does it go? Not having the actual hardware, or just the media on it?

Cuz i love me some xbox live .

Cell TV Net

Cell EASY life doesn't revolve around a cellphone as many people would try to lead you to believe, you can arrange w/e from a home phone easy although duh most of us DO have a cell.

Sometimes you are just bored and WANT to lay down and watch TV.. think about it lol spike/fox reality, simpsons, discovery/science/history channels/sports MLB/MMA/Speed/G4/cartoon network, breaking news events, random movie that you love, play your HD games from your 360/PS3 w/e too much to give up imo.

I was going to say TV but then I realized that I would be losing sports. I'd probably give up my cell phone. I can probably get by with just a land line and the internet.

I'm assuming TV meant the idea of TV content, not a physical TV. If it's just the physical TV, I change my answer to TV. I don't find cells particularly useful, but I never use my actual TV. I watch lots of TV shows, but I mostly stream or download them.

I already gave up tv. I could also do without cell service since you don't need it for emergency calls. I need my internet though. I'm pretty hooked on it.

nothing that's ever come through my cell phone has been as good as THE WIRE, or as useful as moments like when i say to myself, "what the hell was up with the opening to TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES?" and pull it up on retrojunk, making myself seriously question donatello's actual mechanical prowess if he needs a complex contraption the size of an entire room to brew an espresso.

goodbye, cell phone.

Giving up a cell phone would be like giving up a debit card, it would just be a hassle having to use payphones and stuff.

I'll get rid of TV.

Easily TV. You can watch many shows online. I just don't get people who would give up their cell phone.

Girl: Hey, can I have your number?
GAF: Sorry, I gave up my phone instead of TV or the internet. But hey, you could come over to my place. We could watch Lost and play Gears of War 2.
Girl: I have to go.

TV, without a doubt. In my house we only have one TV actually set up to receive any form of broadcast, and it gets used for a couple of hours a week. Everyone has big TVs with 5.1 systems, Blu-ray players, huge film collections in their rooms, and that's all we need to watch.

everything can be done through the web though.

tv --> cell --> web

I'd just become a facebook/twitter whore if I had to give up my cell

TV first since I do not watch it unless LOST or Fringe is on, second would be cell, but I love my iPhone and last is internet, hell no you aint taking my internet.

Except for on a few occasions, I haven't watched TV in the last 6 months. So, giving up TV wouldn't be a very big sacrifice. I wouldn't have any big problems giving up my cell either. Internet on the other hand... :)

I'd probably ditch the cell phone but unfortunately, my contracts locks me in which means TV would probably be given up. If there were no penalties involved with getting rid of the cellphone then I'd get rid of it.

I think the statistics for Canada are pretty reflective of our shitty ass overpriced carriers.

That said, cellphone.

I'd say take both the TV and the Cell, if only I didn't use the phone for work purposes.

Taking my internet away? Get the fuck out.

TV
the quality in content has gone to the dogs ever since the take-over of reality TV shows.
How many retro sitcoms reruns can we continuously watch until we realize that we are doomed for eternity with no good new content?

I think the survey is just trying to show a TV subscription service is becoming more and more irrelevant like a land line. But for me the survey fails because it is too easy to replace the thing you are giving up with the other two choices, especially TV.

Give up TV, simply watch TV on your Cell or Web. This is a no-brainer. Everyone should be picking this.

Give up internet PC, simply surf on your TV or Cell.

Give up cell, worst of three, but simply use TV w/ console for networking or Internet (facebook, IM).

They have to make it so giving up TV means you can't watch shows at all, ever. Not on DVD, not on the 'net and not in the theater. Giving up internet should mean no internet on your cell phone, no online gaming on your console, no e-mail address, nothing..

If I give up TV, does that mean I can't play video games? Or is it only watching television?

If it's only watching, fuck, I gave up cable last year and could live without it forever. It would only be hard if it meant I couldn't play video games.

After that, probably cell phone, though that would be tough.

I need internet.

TV, easily.

I could always just use Hulu-type sites to watch my shows or rent/buy them off of Netflix/iTunes.

Getting rid of the web in this day and age makes you a dinosaur.

I was always curios why some people seemed to he so proud to not have a cellphone. I remember in the late 90's, only the rich had one and that it was associated with being. 'yuppie' so I can understand it then, but now?

By no means am I saying it's an essential piece of tech, but personal communication technology was always going to be worked towards. The way of the future. Why are people so proud to say, " I didn't get a cell phone for the longest time!"? It's not like holding out on anything tech is something to boast about. You only sound like crotchetty old men complaining about now vs the good ol days. It's not a status symbol anymore. I liken it to home computers. Back in the day, you were kind of fancy pants if you had a computer. You were kind of like at an advantage if you had one. But today you're at a disadvantage I you don't.

I know that it sucks sometimes to be reachable 24/7 and that's not how a cellphone has to be used, but people still use it as the lamest excuse ever to not get one. I think the adoption of the cellphone is so central to the way we communicate today.

I don't necessarily agree with it, but the cellphone is a very important device that has changed how we go about dong day to day things. I think one of the he's examples is just when you go out with someone. You can now do so without getting lost "ok you go there, I go here, call when you want to meet up again".

I can undersatand people disgusted at the overstated importance if the device, but that doesn't mean you have to be disgusted at owning one.

The survey is kind of dumb, because the technologies aren't really related and is loaded anyway. You may as well have the survey ask what would you rather give up: entertainment, communication, or entertainment AND communication. Furthermore it's not entirely clear what they mean. Giving up tv mean giving up video games and movies?

That said I don't have a tv.

TV, I lost my satellite signal from a freak 80mph gust of wind last month and took 3 days to get a tech out to re aim that thing, and I had the internet only, and it was fine by me.

The opposite occurred a few weeks later (because Verizon DSL tech are shit) and I could not live without internet. No GAF, no games, no porn..wtf.

I'd give up my cell phone way before I'd give up anything else. Of course, then I'd have to get a land-line or something in my apartment, but I could deal. Internet would absolutely be last.

Someone should tally this up and graph the GAF choices.

If giving up TV means I can no longer watch my blu-rays on a large screen in my living room, then I would give up my cell phone. If it just means giving up the stuff broadcasters are putting on cable and local channels, but keeping the physical device for video game and movie playback, then I would choose TV.

Wow, I am amazed at all the people saying cellphone. Do you guys have no social life? i seriously can't see life THESE DAYS without a cellphone.

but yea, the choice for me would be TV. I haven't had tv service in about 5 years anyways. I just download/buy dvd/bluray of whatever show I am interested. the Tv is brainwashing.

maybe a few years ago I would have said, then the cellphone....

but now, shit, it would be the internet. If I really needed the internet, I can do it from my cell anyways.

TV by a massive amount over the others.

Then cell by a pretty damn big amount over internet.

Cell phones are not the only type of phones, and they're not the only method available for contacting people.

Giving up the internet doesn't just mean giving it up on your desktop computer, it means GIVING IT UP. Internet on your cellphone counts.
