I'm in the process of watching Dragon Ball (first time through) followed by Dragon Ball Z (never finished it) from start to finish.

How the fuck is the Japanese music in any way "Kindergarten"? What the fuck, have you even listened to the tracks I posted? Yeah god forbid you use real instruments instead of synth

God forbid the theme is actually epic, badass and memorable and I don't give a shit how its produced. The themes are big part of DBZ for me and its with these theme that DBZ climbed to its highest popularity in the USA on Toonami. Deal with it.

I tried watching it in Japanese once, the music felt that way to me.

Epic, badass, and memorable are done even better in the original Japanese OST. You still have yet to explain to me how any of these tracks are "Kindergarten": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKfgvXnAWbg

All of these tracks are just aesthetically and thematically superior to Falconer's soundtracks, and are way more appropriate especially if you watch the series in order.

I can't help but laugh at this.

I watched the shit out of the dub when I was young, and one thing I always noticed was every piece of bgm sounds the same. It's almost all crappy synth rock.

You want epic, badass and memorable? Here you go.

Uh no they aren't. That Freeza track actually started off nice, with a real dark and serious tone but turned into a Scooby Doo bgm by 45 seconds in.

Not gonna listen to that since I don't want to ruin Gohan going SSJ2 (even though I seen it, it was a while ago), can you link just the music please?

Whatever it is I doubt it can top Faulconer's SSJ3 anyways. And clear the earwax if you think that theme is the same as Vegeta, Piccolo or Cell's or Android 16's theme.

Well sorry, DBZ is supposed to sound like that. If you want DBZ to sound like Linkin Park, that's only your problem not mine.

I wish I could understand the lyrics in that music.

Still I don't get how someone can find them sounding the same, 16s theme, Vegeta's theme, Picclo's, Pikkon's I can immediately tell what the name of the theme is 10 seconds in.

Hey at least the Linkin Park userbase starts at teen and not at a 5yr olds birthday party.

I'm with the Original soundtrack, The lack of it in the american version is the reason i will never be able to watch it.

There is no soul in that soundtrack, at leas none compared to this:

Yeah okay...even though nothing in the original OST has anything to do with "5 year old birthday parties." I'm sorry if you think DBZ is supposed to be "deep" with a dark tone, but it's not and never will be. The fact that Falconer tries to do this with the entire soundtrack, makes it very off-tone and doesn't fit with what the series is intended to portray on screen. Falconer's OST simply just doesn't make sense with a series like DBZ, especially in various comical fillers and the Buu Saga. There is simply more variety, and more songs that fit the style of the show in the original OST whether you like it or not.

Japanese person singing is neither epic nor badass.

Yeah well, I feel sorry for your opinion. I can't stand DBZ reminding me of some happy kids detective show when Faulconer's themes like Majin Vegeta's theme (the one that plays when Babidi takes control of him) do a perfect job of instilling the the dark and serious tone to the show.

You were okay for a while, but now you're downright delusion holy shit.

Yeah, they're a lot of good songs posted in the thread from him, he makes great themes.
That should have ended Buu, yeah it would have been a short saga but it's a great way for Vegeta to go out, instead it was basically meaningless.

I like to pretend Gohan actually beat Buu after pulling out the sword. I hated the end of DBZ.

Its not being delusional when you find DBZ a little bit more serious than Looney Toons and Scooby doo, seriously. There's like blood and gore and shit.

I remember hating the Japanese track when I first started watching Kai. It's grown on me, however.

And then they used pull-whistles (or whatever they're called) in early cell saga...lol

Surely not all dub fans actually believe this.

The Japanese music just sounds goddamn boring. When I think of Gohan going SSJ2 for the first time I don't think of some dude singing in Japanese.

I still think this is the best DBZ theme: Super Buu Theme

Man, this is fucking awesome.

Is that forced laughter to hide the jelly I'm feeling from not experiencing DBZ the way it was supposed to be? Haha

Ok , I understand. YOU are as bias as I'am. (Maybe a little less than me).

See, we are in the same situation. I grew up watching this show and i really love it with every fiber of my being. I feel insuted when soeone bash it. And i suppose you feel the same for this other version.

So is the Kai series any good?

I was thinking about buying some of the Kai versions on Blu Ray.
It's a shame that they couldn't get all of the same cast, I'm not a fan of the new voices for almost all the androids.

Also it's nice that they cut out the filler but I think the rush a little too much and cut out some suspenseful or funny moments.

I still like it though.

None of those things make the series "dark." I never said it doesn't have serious moments, but with the exception of King Piccolo Saga, Frieza Saga, and Cell Saga the entire series is pretty comical in tone and style. This is why Falconer's soundtrack doesn't work whatsoever in Buu Saga, with maybe the exception of Vegeta sacrificing himself with was a serious MOMENT but not reflective of that entire arc. There are comical moments littered all over the "serious" arcs too, especially in the fillers which don't work very well with Falconer's soundtrack, and that's really my main complaint. When Falconer's soundtrack works, it's fine (even though I prefer the original OST). When it doesn't work, it's pretty terrible and doesn't fit in the scenes it's in.

Though you can continue to think DBZ is a consistently dark, brooding, epic anime for your teenage sensibilities, it's really not.

This'll be my last response cause this is going deeply off-topic, but I just want to make it clear that what you think DBZ is supposed to be, it actually isn't. I dunno if you're blinded by some form of nostalgia for when it ran on Toonami or what, but this simply isn't the case with the series.

Kai is okay. The filler is gone, but many feel the pacing is too fast at times. Also, re-animated scenes look horribly out of place.

The dub has a much improved script, and the American voice actors are now veterans, so their performance is better. Some of the old voices have changed (Gohan and Freeza to name a few).

The Japanese version has many familiar voices, but unfortunately some have been changed due to deaths (Tien, Muten Roshi, Mr. Satan =(), and some for no reason at all (Aya Hirano as Dende...wtf!)

There is no Faulconer music (dub score). Kai has a new score. But due to plagiarism, the score has reverted back to the original Japanese DBZ score in all future released.

It's kinda complicated =/

Like I said, the original music probably ruined the experience for you (but really its just what we grew up with).

I don't think Buu saga was comical. DBZ has always tried to mix funny with epic fights. Majin was as serious as Cell saga for me, Vegeta came close to blowing up his whole family and the way he fell under the Majin just so he could beat Goku, was not comical.

Plus Super Buu killing every human on earth wasn't comical. The Buu/Majin themes actually do a good job of laying a serious tone to it, sorry the original messed up it up with "HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY" tunes from the looks of it if it only made you laugh.

Obiously, DBZ is funny overall. I pretty much had a laugh at every episode, but not all the time.

Though you can continue to think DBZ is a consistently dark, brooding, epic anime for your teenage sensibilities, it's really not.

Its really not. Its an action cartoon...oh shit anime don't bite me.

Which you started, just couldn't stomach your elitist tone at the start of this thread, this is where the thread got ruined.

Well it is, your experience differs.

I would say the the original soundtrack is pretty damn effective to make it "dark" sometimes.

Compare for instance this clip in English with the american soundtrack:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGqvybJYwAA&feature=player_detailpage#t=227s

vs this Latin Spanish with the original (about the minute 9:27)
http://www.dblatino.com/dbz/66b.htm

Edit: You don't even have to understand Spanish to know what Vegeta is saying, the soundtrack tells you everything. I my opinion the american version has a mere background music that is pretty good sometimes, but it has nothing to do with the pace of the animation.

I'll agree with that. Its what we grew up with. Almost like religions.

I don't HATE Japanese music, just had to counter the condescending elitist tone that ruined this thread. This is what we grew up with, why shit on it for other fans?
Lets the fans enjoy the American release, FFS. Did we ruin the Kai thread?
