Whats going on with Square Enix?

Seriously! They haven't released any info on: Kingdom Hearts 2, Final Fantasy XII, FF7 Action RPG this year or since late last year. Also they still haven't announced release dates for: DQ8, Radiata Stories NA.

They seem to be supporting DS heavily and releasing info on its game on a regular basis but what about the PS2 stuff? They haven't shown or released any kind of info for the games I listed above. Just some Darg-on Dragoon 2 and Romancing Kingdoms stuff but that’s it.

WTF IS GOING ON??? Did they drop all Sony support or what?

DAMN THOSE BASTARDS FOR SUPPORTING THE DS. WTF THE DS SUCKS.

but seriously, wait till E3. We're approaching the period of the year where very little news gets released. After April 1st, which should have a few business related announcements (and a bunch of April Fools' pranks), we won't be seeing much news until E3 (barring leaks)

HEY DAMN YOU I GOT NOTHING AGAINST THE DS!

I just don't understand what they are doing. Maybe all the big titles are going multiplatform like Jarod said?

Working, perhaps? This isn't like grade school; they don't owe you progress reports every six weeks.

:lol but.. What about the NA release dates for DQ 8 and Radiata Stories???

edit
Damn even Nintendo finished Zelda since E3 and released another trailer recently. WHY IS IS TAKING SOOO LONG? :(

I just want to know what is going on with DQ8.

The Japanese arm has said repeatedly that they want to push this series more strongly on the US populace, but I'd like a date already... E3 feels far away when I think about it, even though it will probably come incredibly fast.

The rumor on Japanese message boards is that Square Enix is planning a Dragon Quest 6 remake on the PS2 for release between Jul to Aug. FFXII has been delayed with no new release date but there will be a playable demo included in Kingdom Hearts 2 set for release between Summer and Fall.

None of this is reliable, but I'm posting it anyway. :D

Jeez, if that's true, what the hell happened to XII's development. Thought it was nearing completion a while ago. Could the characters be going thru an overhaul?

What's with the ff12 delay?

Two things could have happened:

Game sucked at E32004, dev team got a lot of negative feedback and decided to fix things (could explain why they haven't show anything since E3 2004) and are planning a massive PR or info re-launch for E32005

Or

Devs were unhappy with quality and decided to fix things.

OoRR

FFXII cancelled for PS2 and is in development for PS3 or Xbox 2 (the chances of this happening are ver low or 0 :lol)

Nope this did not happen. Anyone who played it can testify.

Devs were unhappy with quality and decided to fix things.

Could be... or

3) When they announced DQ8 would take the Winter 2004 release slot, it gave the FFXII team time to add many things they didnt have time for previously. The resulting additions took more time than expected to polish out and it is hence delayed till they have everything ironed out.

Yes I agree 100%

BTW Are the days getting any warmer in Tokyo (dev team said wait till days get a lil warmer in famitsu preview)? Any guess when we will hear something about this game?

Tomorrow (start of spring), or the start of the summer...

Which means next week's V Jump might have SOME info. If that's the case we should hear something by wed or thurs this week when the subscribers get it and start jizzing on forums. :D

I haven't even gotten around to playing Final Fantasy X yet. I bought it for $5 from a friend (practically new, as well, only played once). It's still sitting on my shelf.. I doubt I'll ever get to it. Ah well.. :lol

Tell me again, am I the only one who preferred it when Square and Enix were seperate entities?

This leads to my next point that Square ruined Enix.

Hardly. BuddyChrist and I were playing the demo for at least 45 minutes during the show. Then we spent the next 10 minutes or so trying to formulate a feasible way to steal a copy.

EDIT -

No, I preferred it, too.

And everyone weeps that you two brave souls failed. :(

Easy, I'll just make sure to distract folks by bringing Uematsu to the show floor for autographs (by luring him)! It'll be an ingenious plan! Then buddyC and Link can steal a demo.

At this rate I'd be surprised if FFXII gets released this year. I remember when people were whining when it got pushed back to 2005. :p

Hey Link, welcome back. Haven't seen you around for awhile.

Anyways I want fucking Radiata Stories, but I think it will be awhile since enix/tri-ace stuff seems to get lower priority.

I never said the game sucked, the vids looked awesome, I just saying what could have happened and why the game got delayed. Glad to know that you folks liked the demo.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if this were true although it'd probably be more plausible to release it on PS3 IMO.

I've been asking "What's going on with Square Enix?" ever since they both entered this gen.

i think their software model is flawled.
Old gamer want quick action game that do not take too much time to get in.
Kid want only stuff branded with tv show.
Those in the middle are too busy to play video game and seen to prefer older game mechanic (especialy girl).

RPG selling 6Million once a year become a far too risky market. I suspect they know that and have failed so far to come with a diversification plan. In other word the badly need to buy new develloper.

Right which is why they're still one of Japan's most profitable console developers. :lol

Right which perfectly explains how recent quick action games in the past few months have all done really poorly in Japan. :lol

Ah I guess that explains how GANTZ sold 5000 on Thursday. :lol

Yeah no one has time for games anymore but overall game sales just keep rising every year, shit! :lol

6 million copies of sales is probably more than the combined sales of any mid-range or low-range publisher's releases in a lifetime. :lol

I think Hironobu Sakaguchi did far more damage to Square than Enix ever did.

I can't really disagree with that. Sakaguchi leaving Square was the first step on the road to recovery - but Tokita and Kawazu are still doing their part to destroy Square from the inside. With Matsuno's team gone AWOL and KHII mysteriously submerged, Square's definitely had a tough year.

To clarify my "Enix ruined Square" statement: Enix bought Square, not the other way around. Despite the standard PR doublespeak of a "merger of equals," Enix is the one who's been calling the shots at the new company. They're also reaping all of the benefits; Enix games, released now as "Square Enix" titles, get Square levels of press and coverage from the fawning media. (And be honest - there are definitely "Square" games and "Enix" games from within Square Enix.) Square games, on the other hand, are having to wend their way through Enix's bureaucracy on the way to market, and that's been difficult on a lot of the old-school Square creators.

Wow, that's got to be a record for the number of times Duckroll used the :lol smiley in one post!

Not true. Once I was replying to an ownage so awesome (can't remember which one) that I remember using so many laughing smilies that I got an "too many images in post" error. :D

As a big Square fan, what can you say? Unless they seriously overhauled FF12 or came across a MAJOR glitch(scene keeps repeating itself into an endless loop mess for example), then there is no reason for a game that was supposed to have came out over a year ago to not have seen the light of day. As somebody mentioned, as big as the new Zelda will be, even NINTENDO has released a stingy 1 minute trailer on it....

quick to finish game that are currently sold bomb because they cost to much, the gamer think it does not get enough for the price. So it's curently as much flawed.

They sell 6M now but i can tell you RPG are not as popular as they were.

You are right telling most game sell a lot less lately, in fact i guess most developper would be happy now to see back their dreamcast sale numer. 90,000 is now a big succes for japanese publisher now. Not so long ago an average N64 game was easily selling 400K.

FFXII might be being held back for purely business-related reasons, as was postulated above. They might want to spread out their big hits so that FFXII hits later in the year, away from Kingdom Hearts II.

As for the US, this might result in FFXII being pushed to 2006 if they decide their big RPGs for the year will be DQVIII and KH2...

Uh, it was first shown playable at E3 last year (and it rocked if you ask me). So your entire statement goes out the window.

If anything, it should've been released last fall/winter season (if you're being generous with the percent complete at last year's E3). Then you have to realize that Dragon Quest 8 released last Christmas Season in Japan and it'd be a horrendous mistake to release FFXII and DQ8 so close together as to compete against each other for sales.

First playable at last year's E3 but announced a year and a half ago at 2003's TGS. It was supposed to have been released last summer/fall in Japan and was instead pushed to Spring 05 before the end of their fiscal year. Then, it was delayed again to a rumored summer release(making it pretty much up in the air). It might not be quite a year, but unless major news is announced on it before E3 or it comes out in a month or 2 later this summer, will be a year or more, to elaborate

How many of these threads do we need? It seems we have one every week or two. The games are still coming, so stop being impatient little twits. :P

It was announced January 2001.
