I actually did some reaction video's on Youtube thinking nothing of it back in 2013. Not every single being was doing something like that then. I wasn't a big Youtube guy and only had like 135 followers or so and thought nobody was actually watching my content. I was basically doing it for the hype of my hobby and my own interest and friends. I did a reaction video to a 'Man of Steel' trailer and it got like 17,000+ views over night or so. I was shocked. Then I had random people inboxing me to do more. One dude even spliced up a handful of like, 50+ reaction video's and spliced it all to one compilation. I haven't done anything like that since, though. Nowadays everybody is doing it and it just makes for bad viewings with fake reactions.

One oddly specific reaction channel subgenre is "black rap fan reacts to heavy metal". People seem to love to watch black rap fans starting to like heavy metal for some reason.



No, it's the other way around.
Everyone wants to see someone like a thing they like or dislike something they dislike.

These channels are popular because people want to watch them. You can take a look at the comments and see countless of people telling them what to react to next.

Social media gives everyone a medium to voice their opinion. Sometimes these are great, insightful opinions but the majority of it is garbage. People watch and react because they want to get their two cents in and some even crave the attention and think their opinion is fact.

I thought someone copyrighted or trademarked the 'A reacts to B' video naming? Maybe they failed to get it through the courts but I definitely remember a big uproar about it.
