what the f*ck dude?! you cant just come in here and say something like that!
at least tell us when the 2nd class citizens (you know, the people that buy and support your games CAPCOM) can expect an official announcement.

I hope it plays like TVC

I hope it uses the TVC engine and the TVC characters artstyle over SF4's ugly ones

Also want TVC-like soundtrack over that jazzy shit.

Punch a pillow

SF4 and TvC both have an irritating artstyle.
I'm beginning to think it's a side effect of the polygon-based 2.5d engine.

TvC looks great.

You can claim TVC is balanced all you'd like, but that is a completely different game from MVC series... so, that's pointless.
Not really, It shares a lot of similarities with MvC1 (probably the closest comparison, people call it a cross between MvC1 and Guilty Gear). Also borrows some mechanics from MvC2.

That wasn't the sentiment when it was announced for arcade. Wonder what happened from then and now.

anyways this really isn't the thread to get into this, only relevance TvC has to this thread is the fact that there is a chance that MvC3 may be using it's engine.

Art demands aside, it takes up significant amounts of VRAM to keep in memory HD sprites and all of their frames. It's one reason why BlazBlue has such choppy animation compared to, say, SFIII or any 2.5D game. Couple that with the expectation to have up to 6 characters on the screen at any time and you're basically asking for the impossible.

On the subject or actually drawing the sprites, even the games you're touting by ASW and SNK have rosters that are uncharacteristically small for what is expected of fighting games these days. Here, we're talking about Marvel VS Capcom 3, the sequel to the game with the single largest roster ever seen in a legitimate fighting game. The art workload would be astronomical and I doubt Capcom is ponying up the cash to justify it.

Every *new* fighting game is going to be lacking in the character count because they're all series / franchise reboots. Capcom, SNK, ASW can't coast on sprite recycling to inflate rosters.

If the popular party line is to be believed, SF4 is currently the high watermark for fighting games (despite its shit netcode), and that gives us a 19 character standard.

BB: 12 characters
SF4: 19 characters, ignoring arcade release here which was even more limited.
KoF12: 22 characters

"New" old fighting games are going to be at a loss because everything needs to be re-drawn or 3D models made.

So having said that, perhaps Bad Taste in Fighting Games GAF should wait until Capcom craps out several more fighters and licensed games to have the library of character models for recycling in MvC3.

I still want DC vs. Marvel. I could care less about Marvel characters beating up on characters that are nowhere near their power levels.

I'd take Tatsunoko Vs. Toho even! :D

Vanilla console SF4 had 25 characters, babycakes.

Whether the game is using the same engine has no bearing on the fact that this thread is about MVC3 not TvC2. And anyway the TvC engine ≠ TvC (I'm sure Capcom - if they are in fact using the same engine - would tweak it to be more representative of MvC)

The fact that people are saying they want this game to be like TvC confounds and irritates me. TvC came out somewhat recently - play that people or wait for its proper sequel.

I wish people would stop crashing this thread with talks about mutating our (i.e. fans of MvC) long awaited sequel.

I own TvC just to let you know.

It's not so much that I want MvC3 to be a clone of TvC, it just that....TvC did so many things right for the versus games. A cast where nearly everyone is viable, the presence of assists as a gameplay mechanic but not to the point where they are on the screen every two seconds, Mega Crash/Baroque (Mega Crash in general was one of the best additions the series has seen) Air dashes and double jumps for everyone (except Alex). That last part was pretty big; in an engine like this -everyone- needs that kind of mobility.

So much for Wikipedia! :lol

Shame only FIVE of them were *new*. >:)

Well, you still cant count properly :)
Gen, Rose, Sakura, Fei Long, Cammy, Gouken, Seth, Dan -> 8 difference. Not 5, not 7. Even with Seth counting out, it is 7 plus. But whatever.

Gen, Rose, Sakura, Fei Long, Cammy, and Dan aren't new.
He's talking about Abel, Seth, Fuerte, Viper, Rufus, and Gouken, all of which debuted in IV.
But yeah, he still can't count.

Ono in an interview last year implied that any MvC3 game would have around 50 or so characters. Just sayin' ...
50 characters is still pretty good considering there are so many useless characters in the game that should be replaced by more prominent/famous/better characters from BOTH universes.

I mean seriously WTF @ Shuma Gorath, a 2nd Wolverine, Felicia, Servebot, Marrow, Amingo etc.

Why are you calling out Felicia...Sure Donovan, Demitri and Talbain would be better, but she is better than Anakaris.

Weren't a lot of the characters in MvC2 ripped straight out of SFAlpha/Darkstalkers/Marvel Super Heroes/X-Men vs Street Fighter? Or was that only a few characters?

eh, looks better then SF4's butt-ugly monkey characters IMO.
I honestly dont know wtf they where smoking when they came up with that artstyle.

Well, new or not new, they still had to make the models, the animations, everything, for the SFIV engine, from scratch. So...

I'm almost convinced. Just stretch that random, bad looking close-up of Morrigan a bit more.

Shut your hole. Servbot is awesome. Gimmicky as all hell, but awesome.

Anakarsis sucks too and you are right those 3 would've been WAY better especially Jon Talbain.

:lol Don't wanna face facts huh. In no universe does TvC look better than SF4, in any way shape or form.

If Demitri made it in, I wonder if Marvel would allow midnight bliss versions of their characters...?

If they didn't, then Felicia was a better choice than him. Purely from a gameplay standpoint, Demitri doesn't really add much variation to the game. Although, I'd still take Donovan or a gimped Demitri to Anakaris, but I guess they included him because he was unique.

I think it's a matter of art direction. I think Street Fighter 4 is pretty ugly in that department. On a technical level, Street Fighter 4 takes the crown, but I think TvC is just a more pleasing aesthetic. Just my opinion, of course.
