Which next gen systems will you be getting?

PS3 for definite, assuming I can manage to either scrape up the money or completely rape my credit card (if it has any credit left on it by the time the PS3 comes out).

PS3 at launch as well as a Rev as long as Nintendo doesn't go overboard with whatever they're planning. 360 I really don't know, going by the games announced so far it'll be awhile before I get one.

Current tally on GAF for next-gen system purchases...

(Note: I didn't add people on who weren't sure or who only thought they'd "possibly" get one system or another down the line. If someone said "all three", I added a notch to all three system numbers.)

PS3: 55
360: 24
REV: 36

Like this generation, I probably won't buy any of them at launch, but will end up getting all three eventually. I thought the PS2 launch sucked big time and I didn't get one until late 2002. I think I got a gamecube later, around when Ikaruga came out, and I didn't get an Xbox until just last year. I guess I like to wait until there are a ton of great titles (and cheap titles) to choose from. Considering all the great games we're still geting for current gen systems, I'll probably wait a few months before buying a new console.

Unless of course there is some mega crazy incredible title that simply MUST be bought, but I haven't seen anything like that yet. We have so little info so far. Who knows.

So now your a fanboy if you dont buy every competing product on the market? Imagine if that rule applied to everything.
I own every brand of car, TV, appliance and furniture, as well as every music album ever released. If you don't, you're a trolling little fanboy!

Revolution at launch, PS3 during Holidays.

Well, depends on release times, I guess. But those.

No, you're a fanboy if you pick out what consoles you're going to buy before games are shown (okay, that doesn't apply to X360).

Faulty analogy. All 3 consoles could cost you $500 if you aren't a launch buyer. Furthermore, you can own one consoles and not be a fanboy. But to select one before any actual games are shown is fanboyism.

Ever think that people are buying next gen systems based on what kinda games are out for current systems?

You forgot Revolution.

Some nice double standards.

No point mentioning revolution, since no games were shown for it and noone knows anything about it. Other than for big nintendo fans, it's hard to recommend anyone else to buy a revolution with what we know. Its biggest selling point right now is you can play OLD games on it and pay for them to boot.. (which I can on my modded xbox for free) *yawn*

Ignoring the very solid lineup of xbox 360 games (which is only going to get better) is fanboyism IMHO.

PS3 at launch.
Rev sometime as long as Iwata and co. haven't gone batshit insane with their revolutionary idea.
X360 if it ever gets some games that actaully appeal to me.

Well that's a very narrow look at things. I think many people did that with N64 only to be disappointed.

Developer's change, both in what they make and who they make it for. We had Resident Evil with Nintendo this time. Now Silicon Knights is going to X360.

Gamecube was nothing like N64 or SNES or NES. Nintendo will make a Mario game or something like. But what will it be like. Nintendo's quality of gaming has changed over the years. I much prefer their SNES/N64 stuff over GC's.

With PS2, there were many similarities to PSone but there were many differences. Like this generation there were several original titles: Jak, Ratchet and Clank, God of War, Onimusha, Devil May Cry. RPGs sucked this generation. Nothing great IMO. Only a few good ones. PS2 had great platformers while the 1st one was only good.

That's good enough for me as long as what they're doing with the overall system isn't too weird.

Once again, good enough for me. Metal Gear's already been confirmed too. Although you should check out the upcoming PS2 RPG schedule, its taken awhile but its about to catch fire.

The fanboy part is ruling out what consoles not to buy at this point.

Maybe my initial comment was a bit too judgemental. :)

It's the only thing alot of us have to go by at the moment. Yeah it may set you up for dissapointment (I was dissapointed with the n64 and GC while I loved the SNES), but there is also a chance it will give you more of what you love.

right...

and to all you people only buying "one console" :lol :lol :lol

in a year or two you'll either be the biggest trolls on the forum or you'll break down and get another system.

SHUT UP! I shall be strong this gen, and resist the evils of muti-console ownership.

I'm trying my best to restrain myself from buying any at launch. I'm gonna wait a year (and a price drop too) later to decide which to get. There's way too little info to decide to make a purchase now.

Since 360 is technically compatible with the DFP and Forza ended up being as good as it is, the PS3 is no longer a certainty. Im done with Nintendo though.

Based on my experiences with the three consoles of this generation, and with the assumption that the next-gen will be an upgrade, I'll buy an X360.

on Ebay after Christmas

Based on the current info we have, I'll get a Revolution at launch, and PS3 when the price drops or when I can't hold out any longer (that's probably once some good RPGs are released.) Nintendo really dissapointed me with Gamecube although unlike most people here, I loved the N64. The things Nintendo's planning with Revolution (game download service, free online play, unique forms of gaming, cheap price) makes me more excited about it than any other system. If Animal Crossing comes out at launch, that cements it. :D Playstation 3 on the other hand has the power and the developers so that's a guarantee for purchasing it down the line. I don't see too much that differentiates XBOX 360 from PS3 sans payed online service, same as in this generation, so I think I'll stick with two consoles again.

I'll probably get all of them again. The Revolution is the only one I'm concerned about though. Sure downloading the old games is cool and all but I already own the old games. It's tough to be excited about that feature when it adds nothing new to your collection.

The Xbox360 I'm getting at launch regardless of the games. Even if all it does is sit in my entertainment unit lookin all creamy sexy. :D

PS3 I'll get at launch if there is a game that I'm really interested. If not I'll wait until there is one.

I'm pretty sure I will still be playing my Xbox360 more than the other consoles due to Xbox Live. Unless Sony comes out with some amazing online system I can't really see myself and the rest of the GAF sports game crew jumping ship.

At the moment, I'm not going to get any of them at launch.

360 is a big, fat NO... there is no way in hell I'm pay $300-$400 bucks for console whose top titles are all coming out for this gen's consoles... I'm not that big of a graphics whore.

PS3 is interesting, but I want to wait see actual games. Once we get pass the target renderings and alphs-kits excuse, I have a better idea of what I want.

Rev. has my most attention. We'll see how long Nintendo strings out the revolutionary secret, and if it really holds up in the end. I like the downloadable back-catalog idea... far more than that silly marketplace nonsense.

We'll see. I know that if I don't get a system the first day, I probably won't get one until a price drop or two.

I call "dips" on next week's thread.

PS3 at launch.

Maybe 360 after a price drop or two. I'm still not convinced of the thing's power. Watched several rolling demos at Gamestop the other day and all of it looked like it could be done on a good PC. I'm sure things will improve, but I want to see it first.

Pass on Nintendo this time.

I'd like to stay with one console this time if I can help it.

I don't get this "one console buyers are fanboys" bullshit angle. I was a multi console owner and couldn't keep up with the releases. Many were backlogged and could never put a lot of time into the games.

I also am getting Revolution because of the flow will probably be the slowest, allowing me to catch up on the GC, GBA (GB Player), and PSP.

uh, no. :lol

I have absolutely no interest in this 'solid lineup.' maybe lost odyssey will be good but I'll wait for reviews. it'll take 4-5 really good games for me to buy a 360 and so far there are zero.

PS3: Yes, probably after the first price drop.
Revolution: Yes, when it gets dirt cheap, or perhaps the Revolution will surprise me with future announcements/games, in that case I will get it after the first or second price drop.
Xbox 360: Maybe if it gets a few exclusives ('exclusive' exclusives) that I really want to play... or when it gets super dirt cheap (ie. $150 CDN or less).

Consumer Whore or Spoiled Brat

Take your pick. :P

I agree, there's more than enough stuff on my system of choice. It's not like I'm left wanting.

The current industry model is broken. A console standard will fix that, then we'll have competition amongst S-O-F-T-W-A-R-E developers; and the consumer wins.

Until then, I'll continue to vote for the single console standard with my wallet.

revolution for sure. not sure about ps3 or xbox 360. probably neither. not until a price drop and some good titles come out. won't get both though. no point. i have ps2 and xbox now. only play one. the other just sits. can't have 3 consoles.

Yeah, when I had the XBox and PS2 I basically just played my PS2 for 90% of my gaming time. So far I'm leaning towards PS3, but I still don't have the full picture for both PS3 and X360. I'm not going to blindly buy PS3, if X360 is a better system for me I will get that. Sony is making VERY hard on me considering the whole BC thing, I've got a huge PS2 collection and this added bonus is great. Sony knows how to keep their fanbase loyalty...it's already working its magic on me.

Where do people come up with this crap? :lol

All will be purchased at launch, that much is promised. However, my uses of them will have very different levels of usage.

I'll start with my most anticipated on down.

Xbox 360.

With the original Xbox, it was the last system I bought. Now, it is my favorite console by far, of this generation. I love the PC minded attitude they have brought to gaming. I was raised on PC gaming as well, so I can appreciate seeing development teams like Bioware and Epic try their hands on a console. They can gain a wider fanbase than was PC gaming limits you from. As I look at this launch, it's crazy how much money I will have spent on it when November rolls around. I'm 25 years old, my gaming tastes have either changed or expanded. I can still buy a Donkey Konga or an Animal Crossing and have a fucking blast, but this is the also the first generation that I've come to love a realistic racing game. (Thanks Forza) I generally don't buy games anymore if they aren't online playable games. I love the spirit of competition and, quite frankly, I'm too old for the all night Goldeneye type nights my friends and I used to have. XBL is a fuckin godsend for me. Don't have any friends around, XBL will save the day. I'm married with 2 little girls. Therefore, I need gamers from all around to play games with. Not just that. Their consoles cater to the American gamer, game wise. My favorite genres are sports, RPGs, and racers. Look at the 360 launch lineup. All 3 genres are locked in pretty good.

You might say, RPG's? The PS3 will have those in spades. Well, let me correct that. Exclude turn-based RPG's from the equation. With the exception of Final Fantasy games, since their stories are normally worth finishing their games for. Grandia as well since I love their fighting engine. So, what is that? 3 RPG's for the system? Square will come with at least 2 FF games. Pretty good, but I can live without them if I needed to. I'd rather play a KOTOR or Neverwinter Nights over a FF game any day though. Along with the system's capabilities. I don't know about you, but I've spent many a day, cleaning, or doing other chores around the house with the music on my xbox playing on random. The VGA adapter thing is genius as well. Now, the controller. Controller S is the best controller ever made, this new one 1ups it. Your controller is supposed to be an extension of you when you play your games. Of all the systems, only the Controller S really accomplishes that feat for me. So, all in all, The power and capabilities, plus Microsoft's money and will to make this work = My favorite console for next generation.

Revolution

I've gotten used to the fact that they have reconcilied with not competing on a power level. I went into this generation thinking that the Gamecube would be there when the Nintendo games came out. I was never disappointed because I knew what to expect. Games like RE4, Super Monkey Ball made it sweeter. I expect the same from them next time out. Besides, they own the greatest franchise in history, The Legend of Zelda. So a +1 from me everytime out. They are pretty much the only guaranteed purchase for me every new generation.

Playstation 3
There is a litany of reasons of why this will probably be my least used system, but I'll be as fair as I can be in describing the reasons as to why.

#1 - The controller. I've never like the Dual Shock and I never will. Sorry, but looking at the newer controller gives my hand premature handcramps. I will never buy Killzone 2, 3, 4, whatever or I-8 because of the placement of the analog sticks. I won't bother with them. Main games to bring out competition will be for naught since I don't feel like fighting the controller.

#2 - The games. If you have noticed, the best sellers don't come from Japan. If you sense what I'm getting at, there will be a lot less exclusive games for systems, unless someone decides to start dropping moneyhats and I wouldn't bet against Microsoft winning most of the bouts. Turn based RPG love really died out with Chrono Trigger. So, that 'advantage' is nonexistant to me. Others might say, what about MGS and Tekken. Love the former, nto a fan of the latter. Then I counter. Splinter Cell and Virtua Fighter. The former, I know will be on the 360, the latter, if reports are true, are X360 exclusive. It took a while for me to come to this, but God of War is the best game on the system. If they can replicate this level of greatness, I'm there with a pre-order the moment the SKU hits stores, but that is the only must-have I see on the horizon in my eyes on this system.

#3 Online plan, or lackthereof. I've stated that I'm the only male here, so......unless they drop some party games ala Mario Party for me and the family, the only boomerang controller that enters my house will be the one that comes with the system. Contrary to what J. Allard has said, this is not the HD era, this is the broandband area. More people will come to game online this generation than last generation. Whose online services are better and more organized? Microsoft's. You can say, Sony hasn't gone into full detail about their's. True, but that is a telling fact in itself. First off, anybody with a brain should know you aren't going to beat them(Chairman Bill's company) at their own game. I don't care who they bring. Unless Christ is coding for them, look for a great disparity.

#4 Extras. The dual monitor thing is cool, but is it feasible? Blu-ray? Not a movie watcher, doesn't faze me. Hard Drive? Means they aren't thinking about online. Probably due to the fact that up until now, the developers make decisions based on Japan, and not the rest of the world. That, in itself is mind-boggling to me since most of their profits come from Europe and the Americas. Microsoft understands that and have adjusted their gameplan accordingly.

PS3 at launch, Rev. when it gest below $200. X360 only if I get it on a real good deal and it has a good number of exclusives I want to play.
