This is true and I wished it was given as much attention as the rest of the racism issue. People know it, they are bothered by it, but they keep it bottled inside. It's not even a racism issue, this is about honesty and self identity.

When we can be a single group of one race, human, divided by many individuals instead of many people seperated by a handful of groups in one country.. then shit can change.

As it is now, because race based on skin color is totally voluntary and a social opinion really, racism has become a tool just as well as a problem. And that tool has become a problem, from the Affirmative Actions and Cal Prop54s to the OJ Simpson trials and sports media coverage.

Why can't a white guy say nigger? I don't know the current reasoning. I don't know why a black guy says nigger. Try answering that one first, then ask why a white guy can not. Why is the guy black? Why is the other guy white?

I've been conned into a bullshit American Studies class which is, despite being bullshit, somewhat relevant here.

White Americans, a group that I have no pride in belonging to, have been scam artists from the beginning. The economy of Virginia was based on tobacco; the economy of New England was based on fur trade. Drugs and poaching. Wonderful. At first, they used poor whites, Indians, and black slaves. Basically, they would gravitate towards whoever would work the cheapest, would be the most reliable, and would be able to both survive the harsh conditions in the journey and not die immediately afterwards from disease.

This was fine and dandy for some years. Then some white servants rebelled against the Virginian colonial authorities (Bacon's Rebellion). By this time, the heads of state had started to figure out that the slaves that came from various parts of Africa were, on the whole, nice and strong, and were easily controlled when a gun was pointed to their heads. So a brilliant plan was hatched: they would pick this group of people and call them white, pick the other group and call them black, and make all the white people free, and make all the black people slaves. Instead of being stratified by class, as they were up to then - they were stratified by "race."

That's the genesis of the racial identity you see today.. plain and simple. If I were black, I would feel a little bit hurt just to be called black.

Yeah? Well in the US, some school disciplined a teacher for correcting papers in red ink, because the color was too "offensive", and could hurt a child's feelings. I'm not making this up. :lol

(not that I think any of it should be rallied against except in extreme circumstances-- e.g., a teacher who writes "you're a moron who'll never amount to anything" instead of offering constructive criticism ).

(not that I think any of it should be rallied against except in extreme circumstances-- e.g., a teacher who writes "you're a moron who'll never amount to anything" instead of offering constructive criticism ).

It would be hillarious if the teacher was writing worse than that but only got in trouble for the ink color.

The same reason your friend can walk up to you and call you a bitch without you getting mad, but if someone you didn't know came up and called you it, you wouldn't take it so jokingly. I don't condone use of the word by ANY race, but that's one line of rationale for why it is why it is. You're not 'inside' the group, so you don't have some of those privileges. Just as how I don't have some privileges as being part of another ethnicity.

Let me give another example for further clarity. It's like having a sister, and she has one of her female friends over, and that friend calls your sister a bitch. You're not going to go over and beat the shit out of her because it's in a not so serious manner. But if your sister's abusive boyfriend who beat her came over and called her a bitch, even in a joking manner, you're going to be ready to kick that guy's ass. The fact that even though he may be joking won't be processed by you, because his treatment of your sister in the past will be processed first.

I mean segregation didn't end all THAT long ago... Hell, some of our parents or grandparents felt the effects of it head on. Hell, Martin Luther King was assassinated in 1968! Trust and like between the races aren't there 100%, no matter what pie-in-the-sky rhetoric is used. Human nature still lingers and overrides any phacades that is used ot cover pain and true feelings. So there still is the group mentality, even by ethnicity, that allows for one ethnicity to do things to each other that they don't allow outside ethnicities to do. Kind of like fighting and beating up on your little brother, but if someone else tried to, you'd defend your little brother. Personally, I don't like using any variations of 'nigger' by ANY race, but I'm just shedding light on some of the rationale why it may be as it is.

i think people need to stop calling attention to their race as a skin color.. and focus more on race as a culture.. that seems to be the main problem, IMO.
