Drugs and alcohol fucking suck. I lost a sister to alcohol. She went into rehab, got better, met a shitty guy and started dating him, relapsed one night at a party with him and was dead by morning. Here one minute fucking gone the next. She has kids, right? Sucks for them. Some people just cannot shake the demon.

And your point is?
You said Nirvana beat R.E.M. to a major label, which they didn't. And Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth signed with majors the same year as Nirvana, before Nevermind came out and anybody knew what they were going to be. There's just so much wrong in your posts - you should read up a bit.

I have to post this song.

So, some knucklehead with a camera phone recorded Whitney singing "Precious Lord" (my favorite gospel song) at Bobby Brown's mother's funeral last year.

Proves that even though her addictions wore down the quality of her voice, she never lost her ability to interpret a song in a classic "Whitney" way. It's one of my favorite moments of her singing for that very reason.

I don't think I was talking about Nirvana signing to a major label, it was about them exploding in the mainstream and being hailed as the forerunners of grunge.

All this arguing over nonrelated shit. RIP Whitney, you had a beautiful voice and most likely a beautiful soul. Thank you for sharing it with us and I'm sorrowful that nobody could reach you properly.

Just imagine what she could have done if she never got hooked on drugs.

Damn shame.

The damage she did to her voice was quite painful to listen to in her most recent shows. Still, she might have been able to do her true comeback on due time.

It's such a shame to have lost her so young.

I know its bit off topic, but sometimes I don't think people are quite aware of how much impact the whole "Seattle sound scene" had on changing the way we listing to music and the industry as a whole.

If Seattle was so big, then how come it was already being pushed out as early as 1995-1996? SoCal bands like No Doubt, Sublime, and The Offspring were becoming the next big thing at that time, and nearly every Seattle act was pushed to the backburner or dissolved(Nirvana, Soundgarden...).

Hell, it's arguable Dookie signaled the end of the Seattle sound.

Pic was already posted but now in color:

Wow, I just read the article.

Only 48!? I'm guessing this changes things up big time for the Grammy's. They're tomorrow, right?

This was pretty surprising for me to hear tonight. Got home from riding my bike at around 8:30 tonight and was eating with my brother when he checked his phone and told me Whitney had passed away. :(

She was a hell of an artist with a great voice. She'll be missed. RIP

Came out of the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo to this news. Went from sad to sadder.

I think the most impressive thing about her voice was not just the range, but also how powerful and emotive it was. Truly an icon.
