Whitney Houston has died

Legalization = people don't hide in the dark with their habits, and addiction gets treated as an illness instead of a criminal tendency. You already have people in here saying they don't care that she's dead because she liked to use "street drugs", when members of the British royal family have probably tried a different version of that same street drug

Interesting point and an. . . um, intersting thing to bring up at the Pre-Grammy Awards party, but authorities didn't find alcohol or illegal substances in Whitney's room, according to TMZ. And as for the other two performers he brought up, Michael Jackson died from a doctor administer drug, and Amy Winehouse died from alcohol poisoning.

I'm kinda surprised (and glad) all the newscasts here in Spain are opening with this as the big news of the day. She was definitely a big name, so I can't imagine what is it like in the US...

Sunday morning news in the US is more magazine-style and less headline focused. But Good Morning America on ABC this morning basically turned their entire one-hour program into the Whitney Houston tribute hour, stuffing it with old footage, performances and interviews.

I've got to say, I'm pretty impressed with what they come up with in only a few hours.

Man, I just know its gotta be substance abuse.

If it's true she had prescription drugs on her, there's a chance they could've induced drowsiness and, stupidly, she took them right before taking a long bath. I've been on several drugs whose side effects are drowsiness and that side effect isn't a joke. At one point a year ago I made the mistake of taking both an anti-anxiety pill and a percocet (I was recovering from surgery) at the same time and promptly passed out in my office for an hour before a colleague woke me up.

If that's the case atleast it was painless, but wow what an incredibly stupid way to go if true

R.I.P Whitney.

I am glad she lived to share her gift with us--her amazing voice; and to inspire others...

Check this video of Jennifer Hudson honoring Whitney Houston's voice as Whitney watches her perform. Whitney's reaction says it all.

I am glad she got to see her work being honored while she was still with us.

Our prayers to her mother and daughter. I hope they find the strength to cope with their loss.

Still no cause of death? I heard it yesterday when I was at a bar, in midst of the DJ playing a Whitney Houston song. Awkward moment.

The DJ was probably playing it because he heard she died before you did?

And I still think it's bizarre that there are 20somethings and late-teenagers here who have almost no idea who she is. I was ten in 1987, so I clearly remember her entire career, but there are plenty of artists who peaked or even died around when I was born that I'm still well aware of, and none of them even approached Whitney Houston's fame. I feel like you have to be living in quite the pop culture vacuum to have barely heard of her.

I'll never get this complaint - that's -her- singing the song. Yes, it's pre-recorded given the feedback/crowd noise that occurs in a stadium. But it's -her- voice. Pre-Autotune. She was magnificent.

You can do so much in a studio. have her sing the song a billion times and put together only the perfext bits.

yes, she was magnificent, but a live performance is something totally different than miming.

I agree, was just saying. It's still a powerful performance in any case and one that will not be outdone in a long time.

That's quite an insult to Whitney Houston, they also sound and look nothing alike...
I'm surprised that quite a few don't know her, my grandmother is 85, she hates all pop- and modern music and even she knows "I will always love you". When Houston was big, you couldn't escape her if you had a TV or a radio.

R.I.P, I had no idea she was only 48, that's too young to go.

Nonsense. It certainly isn't an insult in terms of talent or professional success.

Yeah it's great
and mimed :(

This one was, I think, not lipped.

Xanax+alchohol+bath tub.

The xanax and the alcohol created a deep sedative state and the she was in the tub so she drowned. Pretty sad and easily avoidable.

Is this true?

Reports are saying she was found in the tub underwater. TMZ has ran with the xanax alcohol bit. TMZ is usually on point about this stuff.

She went to take a bath and they realized she had been in there for a long time. Someone went to check and she was under the water.

Random question, but does anyone know what Houston song I'm thinking about based on these vague clues I have? I just remember it used to play on VH1, and it's her singing in some sporting event, football, I think. Or maybe it was just a concert in a stadium. It's not the anthem or anything, and I think it was from late 80s or early 90s. I think she wore a dark blue dress suit. Can't find it on youtube.

I think it was a rather fast song.

Blitzkrieg Bop?

damn. xanax and alcohol can create THAT deep a sedated state? seems like even if fairly well sedated, your body is going to refuse to let you drown in 2 feet of water, inches from air.

more likely she took 20 xanax and drank some alcohol and called it a day. I also don't think the timing (proximity to the Grammy's) is coincidental.

It's tragic and I feel for her family but every time one of these celebs overdoses after having many chances to get sober, I'm instantly reminded of these famous lyrics by Neil Young: "I've seen the needle and the damage done, a little part of it in everyone, but every junkie's like a settin' sun."

Wow, what a horrible way to go out. I just hope she didn't suffer any.

Now that the media had their one day to cover how great she was, looks like its now time for the reminder of how quickly they love to see celebs fall, as there are numerous pictures of her Friday night after an altercation, making sure to note how horrible her behavior was.

Thats a shame, hard to feel shocked when I expected it years ago though.

RIP

Pretty sure it was some kind of pill, she went unconscious and drowned. Or heart simply gave out after all the coke abuse. Betting it was pills though.

She would have to be pretty hammered or mixed in some cocaine. I have drank and taken xanax while on a plane(hate to fly) and I think I would be pretty alert if someone tried to drown me, but who knows for sure...
