Who got a 5090-5080? post in this thread

Omg I just checked and realized that my Asus Rog Strix 4090 that I bought 1,5 year ago for 2K now priced 3-4K on eBay. Wtf is happening?
So if I find 5090 close to msrp I can just switch for free?

I'm fixing to sell my 4090 at peak meltdown, then live of being a console peasant until the insanity is over. lol

Topher Topher if you got any requests @me

I know what you want, you rascal

5090 is a nice upgrade for me (or so i will keep telling myself)

but if you have a 4090 and thought a 5090 (or even a 5080) was gonna be a major step up and you sold it then jokes on you (and me too i suppose).

people are realising that a 4090 will now be good for another 2-4 or more years.

I'd gladly take a 5080 at msrp… what's so hilarious is that I'd also HAPPILY buy a 9070 XT. Those are in the hands of retailers RIGHT NOW and AMD is like "nah… let's not snipe any potentially impatient or frustrated 50 series customers.. that'd be too smart." So they're just sitting in a warehouse. The GPU space is so stupid.

9800X3D here but really only if you want bleeding edge performance

Just my 2 cents but most modern high end CPUs are going to be just fine

You may lose a few frames here or there with different CPUs but but most people are fine if they dont land on a 9800X3D

Impressions?

I started my new job this week 😭

I'm going to try and assemble my system tonight. I can at least say the card is gorgeous the box is minimalist to the point of pretentious.

It's built, going to bed lol.

My 5090 is here :messenger_sunglasses:

Not installing it just yet. Need to write down all my BIOS settings (AIO fan/pump settings in particular), update BIOS, wipe old drivers, install new PSU, and then put the card in.

I got this PSU

Come on mang!!!! We both know you stayed up at least another hour launching a few games to test that beast. There's no way in hell you built it, made sure it booted, and then just went straight to bed. If you did… well, you might wanna see a doctor.

Brand new build, so I installed windows, updates, drivers. Have to run some stuff after work, MH:W bench for sure.

Where did you hear that from ?

Going to put the 5090 through its paces today

The 5090 currently is in a 9950x prebuilt and I am going to switch it over to the 9800X3D build later and see how much of a difference the CPUs make at 4k

Metro Exodus EE got a 25% fps boost in starting area with my 5090 FE. Also finally being able to use 240Hz of my Odyssey G95NC is nice too!

got the same AIO as you. well mines is the RGB version ;)

about to install me 5090 FE.

why do you have a rear fan intaking air?
I hated that AIO. it was noisy. had to return it. the previous generation is a much better cooler sadly. but it looks ugly as fk though.

Right now I am using the Corsair Ilink 360 cooler with LCD screen. such an amazing cooler to be honest. just super expensive.

cools my 9800x3d no problem ( however, I also have 6 fans attached to the cooler. )

Fucking Nvidia 3 Times I found 5080 for sales…I want my 5090 god damn!
on what website ? are you using a tracker or something ? my friend wants a 5080 but they are sold out here.

I can vouch for them bought my 4090 with them 2 years ago

Past a week from "launch", nvidia still arrogantly silent about this mess

This only stoke more fomo, scalpers and bot haters. I think our erections for 5090 can only grow softer

Spent my afternoon/evening trying to undervolt my 5090 FE

Not too great results to be honest. Seen some reduction in power consumption with negligible performance loss but temperatures aren't budging much if at all. As power hungry as this card is it is really running almost at full steam so to speak. There is some voltage overhead which is to be expected but you're not gonna drop temps without sacrificing performance, I think. I mean undervolting does require some performance sacrifice but I think to see any meaningful drop in temps you're gonna need to take a good hit to performance. I don't know how AIB's will perform in comparison.

I got down to 950mv but one of the benchmarks (superposition) crashed so I went back to 975mv and I tried a +250 memory OC but it slightly made performance worse. So just sticking to a 975mv curve. Default is 1050mv i think. My 4080 got ~100mv undervolt.

Not as good as my 4080 FE undervolting. It's been a while but I remember seeing a good ~3-4C drop in temperatures and up to 70W less power consumption while maintaining same performance. This was even with a ~+800 mem OC.

5090 is seeing at most 42W reduced power consumption. At most 3C lower. This is with losing 1.3-3fps across various games/benchmarks. There is some efficiency to be squeezed out but yeah this card is already going hard.

<550W power consumption is shocking but i'm actually seriously impressed at how quiet and cool this card runs at! The fans are much more audible than my 4080 but the frequency is so low it's not annoying or distracting when they go (max speed i saw was ~40%). Max temp I saw was 68C. It's a bit hotter than a 4080 but not by much. Compared to my 2080 it is a lot cooler. On that the same benchmarks I was running would hit mid 70s to low 80s.

EDIT: "idle" power consumption is higher for sure. My 4080 would sit ~15W. This is at about 25-30 if doing absolutely nothing. This GPU seems to be more sensitive as in it will hit higher temps faster but if you're doing the same thing for a while it will gradually drop down. For example, I'm running just Firefox/Apple Music and when I opened Nvidia app it was at ~60W but went down to about 40W.

EDIT 2: this is with my monitor at 240Hz which definitely affects GPU power obviously.

those temps are excellent. my power-limited 3090 hits 78C all the time.

but what about heat output?
is a lot of hot air coming out of your pc?
heating up the room?

temps might be good, but it's still dissipating ~550w

I'm at the point of saying 5080's are decent value if FE's are available. They're pretty much assured of getting close to 4090's and they're a lot cheaper. They're a weird release from Nvidia, appalling value at stock, but can overclock to make them worthwhile for the price.

The 16GB will be an issue, but an 80 series is a high setting 1440p card in a couple of years anyway.
