Apparently he's to be making the rounds around here, and I caught wind of it. Note the topic: who is he? Why should I care?

Honestly, now.

If you don't know who Dane Cook is, you're even more pathetic than I originally thought you were.

Dane Cook is a fantastic comedian who's been featured on Comedy Central and does a kick-ass college tour. His comedy is high-energy and extremely witty.

:lol

Dane Cook is one of my favourite comedians. He's naturally hilarious and can make practically anything funny (though the material is great, too).

He's coming to College Park next month. I totally plan on seeing him. And when I'm out in LA I'll try to see him then too since I hear that's his primary hang out.

I saw him perform about a year ago at Georgia Tech. It was hilarious, though I have to admit that I think he upped the nerd level in his material for all of us there. :lol

what? why even bother typing that out? what point does it serve? It took you more work to segregate people than it would have taken to not. Don't missunderstand me, I'm not upset, more like, baffled.

Dane Cook is a funny SOB and a great guy to boot. My sister introduced me to him after his LA Comedy club show at last year's E3, and he ended up coming around to the Relic booth the next day to hang out for a bit. Knows his games too.

Dane Cook is pretty cool.

Can someone help me identify this one comedian who I saw on Comedy Central who had this one gag with all these drawings of his. I can't remember his jokes specifically but something about camouflage and spotting assholes, and he also did this one whacked out song. He was really funny!

I suppose I'm in the minority on this one. He sucks. I've never really cared for comedians of that style though.

There's no such thing. David Cross is the second coming of Bill Hicks. Repent, sinner!

I wanted to see him here at UMD, but tickets are $30 + Ticketmaster's retarded service charge shit and that's just too much. Sorry. Hopefully he'll be back out in LA when I'm there for E3 and cheaper too.

I came
I saw
I was vaguely disappointed

Jay Davis and Robert Kelly opened for him. The first guy was ok, second guy was amazing. Second guy ripped the place up, and had a staccato fuck session with the ASL translator. I liked it.

Then Dane came out and started into it. The crowd of fangirls ate it up. Me, I was like "okay, I'll go along with it."

An hour and a half later, after YELLING AND SCREAMING about sex, dreaming, violence, et al...I know I laughed, but I can't think of a single thing that was truly funny. Unlike speakers like Rollins who would captivate the audience through sheer ability to bullshit, Dane used YELLING AND SCREAMING to try to force out humor like it was a stony turd borne in the depths of hell itself.

Christ.

Quick rundown of Dane's set:

*guys getting hit by cars is awesome
*I can slap a fat guy and he can't do anything back
*vomiting is hilarious I'm a dragon of vomit
*I whack off
*women masturbating is funny looking
*MY PENIS IS HUGE AND VEINY
* GIRLS I WANT TO TOUCH YOU

...

Yeah.

Rating: Davis - 4
Kelly - 8
Cook - 7

Overall it was a decent show, a bit of a letdown due to the hype that surrounds him, but eh.

I agree, he does use yelling and screaming too much to force laughter out of you. I still think he's genuinely funny beneath that, though.

Eh, you may be right, but I just wasn't feeling it--further elaboration follows.

Now, you're asking "who...who do you like?" Rollins, obviously. Even though he's more a storyteller, he's probably the funniest guy in the world right now. And, of course, the holy trinity!

1. Lenny Bruce
Satire is tragedy plus time. You give it enough time, the public, the reviewers will allow you to satirize it. Which is rather ridiculous, when you think about it.

2. Richard Pryor
There's a thin line between to laugh with and to laugh at.

3. George Carlin
Well, if crime fighters fight crime and fire fighters fight fire, what do freedom fighters fight? They never mention that part to us, do they?

See? Subtlety. Honesty. Humor.

If you want HARDCORE YELLIN' N' SCREAMIN' EXTREME STORYTELLIN', well, find out when Henry Rollins swings by your area.

If you want the generic half-strength version? Well, look for Cook.

I've never seen Dane Cook live, and I guess I have no idea how truly good he is because he's so new, but I do know this is one of the funniest things I have ever seen/heard

But then if those other guys are more your style, you may simply not like him. I know I'm not big into the guys you mentioned, in fact my brother was listening to a Carlin album the other day and I was a bit confused. I heard him making points about various things in life, but it seemed like he was just complaining how about how dumb people are and none of it was really funny to me.

I have to agree the live show isn't as good as a CD or the comedy central presents episode. A poor microphone and screaming fangirls usually makes it impossible to make out what he's saying unless you've heard the jokes in a listenable manner first. Seeing it with a college crowd sucks cause people won't shut up telling the jokes as he's telling them.

I did enjoy his "new apartment" bit though....

"yeah, I just got a new apartment. I call it the Death Star. I'm still decorating it. It's not yet fully operational".

And I wasn't aware that LA was his usual hang out as I do know that he lives in Boston and he absolutely LOVES Boston....and the Red Sox.

It's not that I couldn't hear his stuff, I just didn't find much of it funny. Past the end part with masturbation (Mario Bros. theme), cashew catapulting, and turntable clitorii...much of it was unmemorable.

I don't really like the sex jokes, they don't make me laugh. One of my favorite bits of his is the one on death/killer bees.

You need to change your avatar, I was questioning why bishoptl still goes to high school.

i agree, I listened to him today and I laughed at his drunken Harlow story. But really, he's more of a preacher than a comedian. Same as George Carlin lately. Of course they're going to have their followers but I prefer Lewis Black's angry ramblings, which lean more to comedy. I like Mitch Hedberg and Dane Cook a lot though. Cook is much better in person, or maybe it was just his absolutely perfect Comedy Central presents show that sold me on him. Mitch, was just a damn genius. I love those guys who can spit a line and make you roll.

Ok, contrived.

Are you trying to hurt us? Or did the 'fangirls' make you jaded?

Wha? What's this from? I'd guess it's Dane since it's in this thread...is it from his new CD?

It is old, and its not as he wrote it.

While I agree about ND, Matlock has the second worst taste in OT and he's in a phase where he thinks his opinion is important and absolute.
