Who will have the biggest E3 surprise?

I expect Microsoft to announce their next three years of planned exclusives.

I expect Sony to announce what most of their first-party studios are up to (they've been keeping that one pretty close to the chest so far, though I expect more sequels than new IPs).

I expect someone to announce Shenmue 3, a game that consumers don't give a fuck about whatsoever, and for GAF and basically nowhere else on the Internet to go wild.

If anyone is going to surprise us it's going to be Nintendo or Sony. I expect a lot of known quantities from Microsoft.

For me, E3 is all about the surprises. I like a good stage demo like anyone, but the moments I live for are the things I didn't see coming. The FF13 to 15. The KH3. Gabe introducing Portal 2 at Sony. Mirrors edge 2. No new restrictions on used games. So on and so forth.

So, as with any E3 I look forward eagerly to the biggest surprise.

Who has the best chance?

Sony. Pick a game, the last guardian, god of war 4, some other game . thing about Sony, they are good at these surprise announcements and pretty good with the execution. Most of the moments above were Sony doing what they do best.

Who will probably have it instead?

Got to say, these MS pre-E3 annoucements make me think they have an ace in the hole planned, something somehow bigger than halo 5. Problem is now, I'm expecting something big, so if they don't deliver its going to be problematic.

What about the other contenders?

Ninty, I honestly don't know what the elephant has planned. I mean, we do, Zelda. I guess that's the problem. Nintendo hasn't surprised me in a long time, last year my expectations were sooooo low that I didn't think they could undercut it... And they did. I can't wait to see Zelda, and I'm secretly hoping for another game to blow me away.

Ea. Great conference last year with Battlefront and mirrors edge 2. Surprises? I bet on it. I think we are going to see a lightsaber game, or rather something really cool with that star wars license.

Ubisoft. Two solid straight years of a strong game finishing out the conference. Problem is, now its expected. I want a prince of Persia surprise, something more action and adventure and less shooty.

Point is, surprise game companies. Its why e3 exists. I wanna hype.

What about Metal Gear, Coming this Fall? Now this I would get up and clap for!

Two years from now I'd say Sony or Nintendo every year. But for the first couple of years of a new console, MS puts out a lot of stuff before they slip back into their predictable Gears/Fable/Forza cycle.

So this year, I honestly have no idea. But it'll be interesting.

Can someone explain to me why The Last Guardian will be so great? Do incredibly long and tumultuous development times now equal incredibly high quality?

To be honest if TLG shows this year. Which it may well - that would be a bigger deal than GTAV next gen or Zelda Wii U to most I'd imagine. More of a surprise too as the other two are pretty much a given.

I would honestly be more surprised by GTA than TLG. Way to early for a new GTA, unless you're talking about next gen GTAV. But ports don't count as big announcements anyways, or at least not exciting ones.

I'm hoping Nintendo does. They blow us out of the water with Zelda U, then have a surprise trailer for Metroid Prime 4 or a Metroid for Wii U. I'd go out and get a Wii U that day.

Did you play Ico and Shadows of The Colossus? if not then it's hard to explain why there's hype for TLG.

Nintendo because they will have to, for a surprise I will care about though is from Sony since I like more of the ips associated with them.

Probably Nintendo since they're in the worst shape and haven't announced much in ages other than those Pokemon remakes.

So I'd expect at least one big surprise like a Metroid or Star Fox or something.

Then again, I also wouldn't be shocked if they just showed what we know--Zelda etc. and focused a lot of the NFC figurine game crap.

Agree with you on both MS and Nintendo. I'm expecting some big things from MS. Nintendo, hopefully something that's not Mario, Zelda, #2312414. Those are nice, but something new. I'm excited to see X.

Sony if they bought Crash and are making it would pretty much dwarf anything any other company can reveal at this point. That would be what I consider the biggest bombshell.

Microsoft- More recycled assembly line sequels (more Forza, another Dead Rising clone, Halo, etc) However if somehow they managed to moneyhat Shenmue I would most likely go out and buy and Xbox right now.

Sony- Might possibly have an ace up their sleeve since they've been so quiet lately. Maybe TLG stuff, some Morpheus demos etc.

But I think the biggest surprise will come from Nintendo

I want to say Nintendo, but I have no expectations from them anymore.

Sony will most likely reveal most of their stuff before E3.

Microsoft will do some controlled leaks before E3.

I expect the biggest surprise come from a 3rd party, most likely Ubisoft

It says GTAV next gen in my post.

I doubt Rockstar has even started the next GTA, at the most it will be in pre-production and three or four years out. I'd say it's more likely we see Agent resurface or a Red Dead sequel than hear anything on a new GTA. It wouldn't be a big deal anyway as the game would be so far off showing a logo with no release window would be just about the most anti-climatic thing a company can do.

I think we'll see an xbox hmd...not that THAT would be a surprise...

A real surprise would be shenmue 3 exclusive.

Or TLG release date.

Anyways, i think microsoft will have the biggest surprise..sony will just focus on demoing what theyve already revealed essentially...and nitendo...well who knows what nintendo wants to do. I imagine show off smash bros. and announce a game or two.

Had nintendo not revealed Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire they would've easily won. That said, I have a feeling Nintendo will be dropping some bombs.

MS been announcing stuff right and left for days now, announcements that would make a lot of noise in an event like E3, so I'm guessing they have lots of megatons left, so yeah I'll go with them.

Well, Nintendo is having a roundtable discussion on an unannounced 3DS game. The only other game to have a roundtable is Smash Bros., so that means that the game is on Smash Bros' level. Hopefully it's not just Majora's Mask 3DS like people are suspecting.

That Sony leak had The Last Guardian on it, but that would only be a surprise if they actually put a release date on it, even a year is fine.

Microsoft has already revealed Halo 5 weeks before E3, meaning they must have SOMETHING for E3... at least, that's what one is led to believe. I mean, what the hell could Microsoft have?

If I was forced to bet, I'd go with the sure bet: Nintendo. However, if I was a betting man, I'd go with the possible longshot: Microsoft.

I'd say Microsoft. They're the ones on the ropes so to speak. They could stand to gain from something completely wild and unpredictable.
