Who will have the biggest E3 surprise?

apparently they won it last year...or at least beat Sony

You're joking right... E3 was when Sony unveiled that they were going to support used games as a response to all the DRM restrictions of the Xbone.

That and they were pumping out interesting games minute after minute, heck the FF15 and KH3 were shown on the Sony Conference.

game wise MS had a better showing

Ubisoft will probably reveal a brand new IP during their presentation. Seems to be their thing now where they try to wow us once every E3. I just hope that the level of quality for their E3 reveals remains the same for when the product actually ships. After seeing how Watch_Dogs has gone from "Damn, this game looks and sounds amazing!" to "It looks... Alright, but the gameplay looks really uninspired." I worry for The Division and future Ubisoft projects too.

Halo 5, Quantum Break, and that one Project creator game? What else was there?

Sony completely swept E3 last year with its announcement of support for used games... was I watching the same conference as you guys? :s

While I don't disagree that PS4 may have had better games announced in e3 2013, you're argument really doesn't pertain to game announcements.

After how many potential copies EA lost by not putting Titanfall on Ps4, i can't see them giving another exclusive to MS.

it depends how much money to secure the exclusivity ... plus EA knows they will eventually reap the benifits when it's realsed on the PS4 as well ... from a business perpective this makes sense

I'm surprised by the amount of people expecting big surprises from Sony. TLG shouldn't be a surprise at this point, we know it's a PS4 game. And we know about Uncharted.

GG hinted that we won't be seeing their game at E3, Santa Monica just cancelled a project they've been working on for years and are getting "rebooted", Media Molecule's title might appear, although they're still hiring for a crucial position.

I'd say it's going to be Nintendo > Microsoft > Sony when it comes to surprises at this E3.

Sony can do it only and only if they present

Agent-game-logo.png

... FOR PS4 ONLY!

Like others have said, I feel like Sony is in coast mode. That's ok! They've earned it.

Microsoft and Nintendo are hungry and panic stricken. This is where the real surprises come from. I would love for another announcement that happens at E3 during a presser that ends up with a product reveal that's available RIGHT NOW!

That stuff gets me so hype, like when Doom happened that one year.

Well ME4 is no more an unknown like the first one so the price must be stellar (see what i did), maybe not even worthy for MS since in the end Titanfall didn't move so many XBO bundles.

There are still Quantic Dream which has been working on their next game since early 2013, Sony Bend, Sony London, Japan Studio (maybe Project Beast is just one of other collaborations), SSMonica has another project in the works and they could still show it even in early stages, and then people act like MS is the only one who could grab a 3rd party exclusive when maybe Sony could pull it off as well.

And this is whitout counting smaller devs, so no they're not without aces in their sleeves.

How so? Do you really need me to list all the new IPs that Sony annouced during the show as a comparison to the paltry four titles (with one of them being a continuation of an existing popular franchise, Halo 5) that was shown in the MS conference?

The argument was never of quality or quantity either, it was if Microsoft would have anything unique to showcase in their conference. Everybody knows that they would showcase another Halo game. Everyone knew they would showcase another shooter. I was asking if MS was going to announce something shocking like when they unveiled FF13 being multiplat years ago, which created the same media shock that allowed them to win E3.

The same type of media shock that Sony displayed last year at E3 with their no DRM methodology and the $399 pricetag.

This begs one simply question: WHY?

Why is Sony so reticent and taciturn? I don't see why they've been so hesitant to be more forthcoming.

Are they trying to withhold their big secrets or is there truly nothing behind the curtain and they are just trying to conceal something that isn't there.
I don't understand the worries. Why is it a bad thing that they aren't running to Twitter and saying "Our E3 is going to be awesome" weeks before the event? They already hyped it up a few months ago.

They trademarked 5 new IPs/subtitles in the last month and all of their 1st/2nd party developers are working on PS4 games.

Does anyone really believe they won't have much to announce? They still have to show gameplay footage of the games they announced last year as well (many of them are new IPs).

All the recent Shenmue talk makes me want to say Sega. I'll go with MS since they're in relaunch/rebuild mode for X1. Second place MS is best MS.

Shenmue would bomb pretty hard on the X1. Actually, I don't think Shenmue would sell all that well on the PS4 either.

Megatons I want from e3 this year:

X1: Perfect Dark
PS4: Dark Cloud III

Probably Nintendo. Last year, they blew their load early with that amazing January Wii U Direct, leaving next to nothing for E3. This year, they didn't have such a Direct. And they seem kinda confident to me. What's the point doing live coverage for several days if you don't have anything to show for example?

Yeah, I was going to say...MS, at least, has some kind of distant history with the series, but Shenmue has never been mainstream material which is why it was perfect for being a first party-driven title meant to broaden its exclusive software library and show off the platform capabilities. If Shenmue III ever does happen, my first thought is that it's going to be a multiplatform release across PC and consoles. Sega should know by now that the name, anyway, has a much greater profile than ever, so it makes less sense to tie it down when they could be making money on the re-releases or remasters of the older games while building a fresh base of users who could support a modern sequel that, to match the old games and do the series justice, demands a hefty budget that may never be recouped on a single platform just as the old games apparently never did.

EA is going to announce mass effect 4 and remaster the trilogy for current gen consoles or so help me god.

Probably too niche, but Sega announcing that they will be porting the likes of Yakuza, amongst other Japanese only video games, to the U.S. and europe

Could you actually? Sony had a pretty weak conference that was covered up by the no DRM and $399 price. The only games I actually remember from Sony's conference were FFXV and KHIII, and at this rate, those won't be out for years. I know general consensus was Sony dominated, and I myself thought that too. But after getting a PS4, I realized they didn't actually do anything substantive. They talked about having hundreds of games in development, but I haven't really seen them. Yeah they have a ton of indies, and PS+ is great, but a lot of the indies are multiplats. I still love them, but exclusive-wise, looking back MS had a better conference. Project Spark, Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, they had a solid showing.

But as for the question at hand, realistically? Probably MS since they've been going hard lately. Maybe Sony if they feel threatened but I'd bet on MS. But hypothetically who could have the biggest E3 surprise? Nintendo, always Nintendo. They have the talent and IPs dormant to dominate any E3 with megatons. They just don't usually follow through

Sony:
Gabe Newell is gonna walk on stage with a crowbar, drop it, the lights go dark, and as he walks away, a Half-Life 3 trailer will start playing.
Definitive console version with full Steam cross platform support.

Then GTA: V PS4 Next Gen HD exclusive.
The Last Guardian gameplay reveal.
Demons Souls 2 reveal.
Shenmue 3.
Kingdom Hearts 3 story trailer.
Final Fantasy 15 English trailer.
Whiplash Next Gen.
StarCraft Ghost exclusivity.

Sony squires Grabbed by the Ghoulies IP.

Other than The Order and The Last Of Us, I honestly can't recall any near-upcoming exclusives for PS4.

They didn't announce many games at E3 because they announced some at their PS4 reveal event (MS used their reveal event to highlight the features and vision). That's something many people tend to forget. Another thing to consider is that they announced games at every event throughout the year.

I'm not sure if I like Microsoft's "use E3 for all of the game announcements in the next 12 months" approach. It makes every other event less exciting when it comes to surprises.

Well, they aren't in the FPS or TPS genre and we haven't heard much from them lately. Just to inform people of some of the things they announced besides The Order, Uncharted, and Driveclub:

Lily Bergamo, Guilty Gear Xrd, Rime, Deep Down, Shadow of the Beast, Everybody's Gone to Rapture, and Hunger.
Microsoft announced Quantum Break and Forza 5 at their reveal event, IIRC.

Yeah they did. Fable Legends was the post-E3 title. If I remember correctly, Sony revealed Driveclub, Knack, Killzone, inFamous, and Deep Down at the PS4 reveal.

"I knew they were going to surprise us!" Well then it's not a surprise.

What you're saying makes sense, but there's room enough for strong wishes and desires to see something happen and the reality and shock of it actually happening. This is especially true if what you want to see has failed to materialize every time you might have seriously expected it prior. Surprise isn't just what you didn't expect to happen actually happening...it's also the sudden shock or astonishment of it actually happening even if you half suspected it beforehand. If you don't know something is going happen, but know it's possible, it can still be a surprise, is what I'm saying.

Oh crap, that was fucking disgusting.

Shenmue to MS.

The way that sleazebag weaseled his way into Microsoft. It was disgusting.

Anyway, Biggest surprise.

EA, those six new IPs might not be f2p money scams.

I'm not sure.... But I think you might be overlooking just a couple of hidden gems in their show last year e.g.

Sunset Overdrive
Killer Instinct
Titanfall
Dead Rising 3
Ryse
'Shangheist'
D4

But I'm hardly surprised that you think QB, Halo, Forza and Spark made up the entirety of their offerings last year! It's not as if they've been particularly vocal with their advertising or marketing pushes for any of those 'paltry titles'...

Edit: Money's on Microsoft because they're hungry and desperate, and that likely has them throwing funding at whoever will take it. Ideally I'd like Nintendo to provide the biggest surprises, as they've got the talent and bed of IPs to deliver megatons, however they've got a tendency for letdowns.

Sony.

They didn't reveal jack shit last year, i feel they're bringing out the big guns this year (in terms of announcements)

I think it's a toss up up between Microsoft and Sony, Sony we have absolutely no clue what anyone is doing outside of Uncharted 4 and The Order, MS announcing stuff this month that I would have thought would be an E3 announcement so we have that.

Ninetendo I'm expecting something silly like New Super Luigi Brothers 2 for the WiiU or some nonesense further pulling those nostalgia stribgs like a harp.
