Who will have the biggest E3 surprise?

No one. No megatons this year. Only big ones might be next-gen GTA and Zelda, neither of which would be particularly surprising.

This e3 has the potential to be really amazing, maybe one of the best.

My surprise, ps4 for $299. It's a bit out there, but Sony might just go for the throat because as a company they don't need a 60,70,80 million selling console, they need a 100 mil plus seller.

A few games, new price, and bingo, world domination.

I'm guessing MS has something big lined up.

I'm guessing Sony will be announcing Project Beast which would have been huge surprise had it not leaked

To be honest if TLG shows this year. Which it may well - that would be a bigger deal than GTAV next gen or Zelda Wii U to most I'd imagine. More of a surprise too as the other two are pretty much a given.

Yeah I feel MS will have bigger / more surprising announcements than Sony this year. It's just a gut feeling from little things we've heard over the months leading up to this point. If Project Beast hadn't leaked then that would be pretty massive though and I have a feeling outside of TLG, that was Sony's big reveal.

A good way to bring a surprise at things like E3 is to tie it to a milestone or achievement. Like a 20th anniversary or something.

Is that a hint? "Big" Sega franchises that debuted in 1994/1995 which would fit 20th anniversary:

Sega Rally Championship
Panzer Dragoon
Vectorman
Virtua Cop
Virtual On

Oh btw, whoever shows Project Beast wins.
No Zelda, no FF, no Rocksteady/Bebop can change that.

Whoever? You mean Sony right.

I gotta agree with that poster that said Sony revealed a lot of their exclusives at their reveal event:

Infamous
Killzone
Knack
Driveclub
Deep Down
Media Molecule (tech demo)

GT6 had its own event.

Then at E3 we had:

The Order 1886
Metric tonne of amazing Indie games
Dark Sorcerer(tech demo)

Kind of bare bones

That FFXV+KH3+no DRM and 399 quadruple megaton combo was just too much and hence sprouted the unanimous opinion of Sony winning E3 at the time.

1st post nailed it

I can't imagine a bigger surprise outside of some really serious major league crazy stuff like Loom 2, World in Conflict 2, Ace Combat 7, Star Wars: Empire at War 2, etc.

Damn, this logic is spreading pretty quickly. I don't think un-bundling Kinect and revealing the box cover, sub-title, and quarter to the game they announced last year automatically means they have some big announcements. We were going to see a Halo trailer at E3 to reveal that information, but they moved some of that up. Both The Order and Sunset Overdrive were announced on the same day. The Order's footage was revealed earlier this year (they have to show some amazing footage at E3 to get rid of the negative first impression) and Sunset Overdrive showed their footage recently.

To me, looking at the facts of new IP trademarks and articles/job listings that states studios are working on unannounced games is a better hint of what's going to be at E3.

I'm expecting MS to bring something big. I only do because the kind of have to. They are hungry to win, as evidenced by all these reversals and quick console updates. They want to regain lost trust from those who left or are seriously thinking about it, and strengthen those who are still loyal but need a little convincing. How? Games. All they got.

Sony, I feel, will not just rest on its laurels, but perhaps they'll be a little more cautious. I know they will have more exclusives than MS, but maybe their plan is to space them out throughout this and next year, not shew them all off. They are in a dominant position right now, it wouldn't be wise to show all their cards.

So the question is: will MS' predicament 'force' them to show all their exclusives in order to change consumer perception, while Sony, as of now being the best seller, plays it cool (perhaps too cool) change the outcome for this race? Or the other way around, would this be akin to a drag race? You know, pushing that Nitrous button too early might give you a lead boost, but will it win the race?

Idk Mass Effect 4 exclusive for x1 like the first one was then multi after

Unless ms has something, everyone is already banking on last guardian, project beast for Sony

I'm thinking EA.

A lot of MS/Sony stuff has leaked (ntkrnl & project beast), EA has been pretty tight.

edit: To put it succinctly, you do not sit on one of the world's biggest franchises without anything to show for it. There will be star wars.

MS is in a bad position to moneyhat big games when you consider that the PS4 might have double the XB1's install base soon.

Funding games however is something I expect all three companies do and am happy they do.

I think it's going to be Nintendo every year and I am usually wrong.

Zelda could have a cubist-influenced art style. Smash Bros could announce a fighter to represent Nintendo's other business ventures (taxis, love hotels)

Nintendo: Metroid Prime 4

That would be quite the surprise. I actually think a Metroid game will show up, but I'm expecting it to be for the 3DS.

I suppose it's possible that Retro and Nintendo were being intentionally coy and misdirecting everyone about Retro having only been working on DKC and just starting their new project. I just don't see it, though. Of course, a different developer could be handling it, but I don't know why you'd do that when Retro has knocked it out of the park 3 straight times with the franchise.

Yes I do but you can never be 100% until the cheques has cleared.

It's more that we've heard from posters like GopherD that there will be a resurgence of third party exclusives, couple that with MS twitters about the show hinting at new IP, old friends Ect and the fact that they have far more money to splash around. Pretty sure we'll see a few big third party exclusive reveals from them this year.

Time will tell, but Sony can't compete in terms of writing cheques to lock up these kind of games. Then again Sony has many 1st / 2nd parties that haven't revealed anything yet so who knows, but if I were betting either way I'd put money on MS having the biggest announcements on stage this year.

The best part of a surprise, is that they are surprising. And if you are expecting the surprise, it kinda failed as a surprise.

So uhhh. I dont know yet, thats kind of the point of a surprise. Instead of speculating, why not just be surprised?

.

Looking forward to it, but speculating too much beforehand just seems like a waste.

Is it odd I'm really looking forward to the post-E3 memes and joke videos almost more than the news?

Ah, yeah the 3rd party exclusives are wildcards. I would love to see them fund a bunch of games that wouldn't be made otherwise.

They're been hyping up E3 a lot of lately, so the expectations around here are pretty high. Let' see if they deliver.

I seriously doubt EA has any interest in signing any more exclusives with the X1 at the moment regardless of the money thrown at them.

All three console manufacturers have an equal chance of totally rocking people's minds.

Sony has a good chance of surprising everyone by finishing and releasing The Last Guardian, preferably this year, with FFXV coming this year too.

Microsoft could be announcing related to Rare that is not Kinect-based, like a new Battletoads, Conker or Banjo.

Nintendo has big chances of surprising people with Zelda U, Pokken Fighters, X and many more. They just need to play their cards right.

Probably Nintendo, as they usually seem to be the best at keeping some surprise under wraps until their presentation. MS and Sony usually let the cat out of the bag early.

Nintendo. Even in this era, they are the best, keeping big projects in secret. Even projects with third party devs. They can come with something like, Now Fast Neo from shin'en has evolved and now is F-Zero, here is the gameplay and is coming out this year, out of nowhere (PLEASE GO:D).

My gut says MS, mainly because they need it. My head says Sony because they have a lot of studios and have been stealth assassin quiet lately.

Of course Nintendo can show F-Zero and damn near win the whole thing for me. So who knows?! Fun times.

MS press event has the greatest surprise chance, both because they've hit pretty much rock bottom and because they can also surprise in an even more negative manner. But their bombs will be the greatest - either way.

Sony has to pull out some massive cannonballs to shake the stage. Project Beast might be that, Uncharted 4 might have that impact, as would an early showing of Gran Turismo 7. But their biggest trump card might be no-one has seen yet. I remain hopeful.

Nintendo will spend the expo next to the main door, begging for food money.

When did Halo announcements become huge? Unless you meant the price cut, which wasn't actually a price cut.

Halo announcements are always huge given the fan base, and the number of units that franchise has sold, so it is always a big deal its an AAA franchise that moves units and systems.

Sony:
Gabe Newell is gonna walk on stage with a crowbar, drop it, the lights go dark, and as he walks away, a Half-Life 3 trailer will start playing.
Definitive console version with full Steam cross platform support.

Then GTA: V PS4 Next Gen HD exclusive.
The Last Guardian gameplay reveal.
Demons Souls 2 reveal.
Shenmue 3.
Kingdom Hearts 3 story trailer.
Final Fantasy 15 English trailer.
Whiplash Next Gen.
StarCraft Ghost exclusivity.

Sony squires Grabbed by the Ghoulies IP.
I know this is a joke but seriously could you imagine if the lights went dark, that sound from the start of HL2 started, next-gen Source Engine 2 GMan appeared on the screen looking better than any character rendering we've ever seen, all 'rise and shine again, Mr Freeman'.

I would shit every single brick.

Whilst I totally get the prevailing view that MS have the more pressing need to have a great E3 I don't understand why that need translate to them being able to just pull megatons from thin air because they're a rich company.

MS are already announced/revealed much further down their pipeline (and have a smaller capacity pipe) than Sony so logic dictates that it is Sony that have more opportunity to surprise us.

Also why do people think recent announcements are clearing space on MS agenda? They are absolutely going to have to talk about Kinect, perhaps even more so having announced Kinectless SKU, to convince people that it isn't dead. Similarly, HALO 5 was "announced" last E3 and the recent further announcement added little more than a title, they still need to.talk to this at E3 and, ideally, show us some gameplay.

As unpopular an opinion as this may seem, The Last Guardian only ever looked ok to me. It's been so long now too that were it to be shown as the big 'main event' reveal for Sony I'd be super disappointed. I just can't care about that game.

I'd like the big surprise to be something completely new, don't care who it's from (part of me wants to say Sony because I have a PS4, but an excuse to get an Xbox would be pretty good too). A true surprise that no one sees coming.

I think this E3 is gonna be a major disappointment to a lot of people here.

All of them: Sony, Nintendo & Microsoft have the opportunity to blow us away. Honestly, I don't expect any of those to do so. Perhaps Microsoft with some new titles in a very early stage of development.

I honestly expect more from the likes of Ubisoft and EA. I somehow would put my money on EA. Just a feeling.

Nintendo, to be honest. They could "win" every E3 singlehandedly. But - oh my god - I am worried that they are not even gonna meet the (already low) expectations. I really hope for some StarFox / Metroid / F-Zero - Action, please...!

My bet: EA
I hope: Nintendo

I've seen a playthrough of Shadow of the Colossus. The game was.... empty? I don't know how to say it but it was nothing special in my opinion.

I hate you. All those "gamers" watching walkthrough and then giving an opinion on the game... You're so depressing.

Biggest surprise ? Microsoft.
Best game ? Nintendo(Zelda).
