Who's getting Psychonauts next week?

I'm thinking about it, but I probably won't since the game is $50 and I don't have anything to trade in towards it. It's tempting though. For $40, I could probably convince myself.

I pre-ordered it a month ago when I got to play it for a bit. I was apprehensive at first, but it controls great and I get to support a dev house that I really respect. Price be damned.

I'll pass.

It looks cool, but my backlog is insane right now. Between the reviews I'm doing and the games I choose to play apart from those, games like Psychonauts often take me a full year to get back to playing eventually.

I still haven't tried Sphinx, and I heard that was pretty good.

I'm getting it for sure, I also had doubts at first but the demos turned out to be AWSOME. I'll be using my employee discount to get the game for cheap :D

That's a good idea. I'll probably do that. If games like Psychonauts suddenly went away I'd be distraught. I'll buy it week 1, but with a trade in.

If you buy it at EBgames, you get a $10 gift voucher. So it's kinda $40 (or $20 for PC).

To answer your question though, I'm definitely buying it on day one.

Same here, except I'm gettin it :D

I mean I just finished God of War, I have my PSP sitting in a drawer with RR, MLB 05 et al

Started up Ninja Gaiden again. Playing Jade Empire, Doom 3 and Midnight Club 3 which are all awesome games.

Luckily Nintendo hasn't released diddly recently.

Still, I've been looking forward to Psychonauts for awhile now so I'm not gonna let it pass.

Sphinx is pretty good. I have the GC version (because of it's similarity to Zelda) and I liked it enough to replay about 5hrs of it due to the save glitch.

I watched the video from the May issue of OPM. It seemed a bit strange, it reminded me of the Nightmare Before Christmas. I'll play this game, but I won't be buying it at full price...

I'm getting it for sure. The demo is a lot of fun and I can't wait to try the rest. Finally another GREAT platformer this gen (the only other top-notch platformer from this gen is Sly Cooper in my opinion).

I'm not a huge fan of the actual game engine from what I've seen so far, but the art direction rocks, and judging by the previews/demos the writing is, as usual, the absolute best in the industry. I haven't been disappointed by a Tim Schaefer game in the story/acting department EVER, but all the games he's done have unfortunately had sketchy controls/programming. I'm *hoping* Psychonauts is better, but even if it isn't, the story and writing will be great. Definitely picking this up ASAP.

fullprice=no buy for me, as much as I support what the devs (and majesco) are doing.

I'm buying it. Just unsure about which version. I think I'd rather play it on my TV, but $20 after rebate for the PC version sounds awfully nice...

And yeah, they both come out at the same time

Being only a poor PS2 owner (my PC is crap for gaming) I have to wait for the port to be finished, so not next week.

But when it DOES come out on PS2, definitely. I love generic platformers anyway, so a generic good platform game with Tim Schafer humour is right up my street, and I really enjoyed the demo.

Was going to get it before I played the demo in order to support the cause and hope the game turns out well.

Then played the demo and was very impressed by the good gameplay and creative level design. Now going to buy it because it's a damn good game :)

Did you guys hear about the contest for the game? Ebgames, Wal-Mart and I think Best Buy(?) are the ones holding a costest for the game. If you open the game and it's a gold disc you win $5,000.

I can see a lot of returns for defectives though. :lol

My current PC can't handle Psychonauts, and I don't own an X-Box, so I won't be getting it anytime soon. I'm considering getting the PlayStation 2 version when that comes out (it's scheduled for June).

Psychonauts is FULL PRICE?!

Um...yeah, why not?

I don't particuarly care for paying $40-$50 for games when some great titles have come out for less over the last few months (Katamari Damacy, Alien Hominid, and Atari Anthology are some examples). But, if a game is outstanding, then people will gladly pay $50 to have it.

I don't know if $50 is the best initial price for Psychonauts. At $40, it would probably do a lot better, as many of this generation's best platform games (Jak & Daxter series, Ratchet & Clank series, Sly Cooper series) were all released at the $40 level. We'll find out soon enough if this game is worth it.

I dont want to hear any of you people saying you are going to wait for the price drop complain if/when Double Fine goes out of buisness. Me, Im getting it day one. I've played through the demo a ton of times.

Edit: Also, you should try and get the game for PC, if you have a halfway decent rig at all. Its only 30 bucks, and with the slightest bit of tweaking works *perfect* with a USB controller.

Also, to get the best deal possible..

Order this:

And cutting the UPC off of a PC box isnt that big of a deal (compared to a console) IMO.

Assuming you are going to buy a videogame in the next year or so, it makes this game effectively 20 bucks, and you get the deck of playing cards for the pre-order. Also, its one of the realtors in the golden disc sweepstakes, if you care about that sort of stuff.

Even with great sales (let's say over 100,000), that's pretty much an inevitability anyway. It doesn't seem like the company can keep bringing out platformers at a pace which lends itself to staying in business. Heck, Ion Storm released 2 games for the Xbox, both in popular genres, and both flopped. I wish Microsoft or Nintendo would buy Doublefine before this happens. At least then the company could keep making games.

I would say if the game sells 100K they would stay in buisness.. someone would find it profitable to fund their next project.

Question: Does NPD track PC game sales? I would like to see a total sales of Psychonauts across all platoforms.

I also think Psychonauts should be put out on gamecube. Imagine if Psychonauts managed to come out on cube the same day it does on Xbox.. combine a drought of games with a solid platoformer and I think you could move some copies.

I've been looking forward to this game since the day it was announced and I loved the demo, so I'm without a doubt picking it up this week. I don't buy a lot of games any more, but this is one I can't pass up. Especially in this day and age when most games use blood and language to sell themselves (it doesn't matter if it's any good--as long as it squirts blood), it's refreshing to see a game that's different.

I'm probably going to go with the PC version. It looks better than the Xbox version (naturally), and controls just as well with a controller plugged in.

Getting the Xbox version. I don't see how anyone that complains about wanting a unique gaming experience would pass on this. Oh wait yes I do.

Hell yes. Pre-ordered in full. 3 games I really wanted to be great this year, and if this pulls it off it'll be 3 for 3. RE4/JE/Psychonauts. All the other good stuff has been butter.

I've been looking forward to Psychonauts for a long time. I started a thread about it and Jade Empire, and opted for the latter. So now I really don't have the money to spare for the former.

Ooooh, thanks, I was going to use my $20 rebate I got from Phantom Dust but I'll use it on something else and get Psychonaughts at EB.

Well if you're not buying the game fullprice then you don't really support them fully now do you? Go pay your lip service and complain about creative stagnation.

Yeah! What are those idiots thinking?? All niche games should be priced $20, because that will bring in the budget gamers!!

*looks at phantom dust sales*

Nevermind

Absolutely, for many of the reasons mentioned so far. Looks like a unique game and I do want to support games that are off the beaten path. The irritating bitches who spend all their time complaining about creativity going to hell and Western devs making nothing but FPS's are probably nowhere near this game, just like they weren't with Stranger's Wrath.

I played the demo, and while it was decent... seemed to be just another 3-D trinket collecting platformer, and I'm not really a big fan of the genre. What cause are we supporting again?

This is what I was feeling too when I played it. Are people just on this game because it's good or because it has quirky art?
