Why are there no rare & valuable Xbox games?

Amazon's prices tend to run on the high side, I'll admit, and some games get to be overpriced just because they're rare (DDR Disney Mix for PSX is $130?), but at any rate, there are more than 100 games between the PS1 and PS2 that fetch more than the standard $50 list price now that they're out of print.

The Xbox doesn't have the same kind of phenomenon. There is Steel Battalion which goes for $210, but that's because it comes with its own special 40-button controller which is required to play every other Steel Battalion game, yet isn't available on its own. Beyond that, other than a couple of DDR games, the only expensive OOP games are Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Moto GP 2, and even those can be had for $47.99 used.

I don't have very many ideas to explain this, except that maybe not many games are going out of print.

Well, several reasons.

For one, Xbox is still relatively new.

Secondly, the Xbox doesn't have the same huge userbase that PS2 has(Which is what drives up the demand for hard-to-find games like Rez and Gitaroo Man).

No doubt, like any other system before it after the smoke clears, the Xbox will have its share of uncommon-Rare games that appreciate in value.

And there's your answer in a nutshell.

Phantom Crash is pretty rare, same with deathrow.

Not used their not. I could easily obtain either in excellent condition for less than $20.

Rare for Xbox is relative. Fatal Frame 1, Baldur's Gate II, etc. These can seem "rare" at $30 for a used title in nice shape.

It's all about niche releases and small printings. Neither of which are the Xbox forte. And actually that's nice, because the nichier stuff like Phantom Dust, Dai Senyraku, etc. are still easy to find.

Isn't Spikeout pretty rare?

Not rare enough to sell out of its limited print, only 343 copies sold in May '05 according to NPD, but you can still buy it on Amazon brand-new. Similarly, the Egg Mania games are VERY rare, selling literally in the double digits total, but there isn't any demand for them so they probably won't appreciate either.

Used games are worth nothing IMO. Collectors dont play their "collection" games.

My Walmart has four rows in a display shelf dedicated to Kabuto Chojin :lol. It's so comical I wanted to take a photo of it.

that's most weird as the game was recalled what like 2 years ago

What about Apex? Wasn't that a small release?

You can get it for $8 in the cutout bin at any EB. Similarly, you can get Blinx or Phantom Crash brand-new for about $10 on Amazon.

Because people who generally play Xbox don't appreciate the games that would normally be considered collector's items. Face it. That's not to say a majority of PS2 users do, either. But there are more of them (owners), and those crazy bitches who cosplay and want to be Japanese are also the ones that drive up the prices of quirky stuff.

On top of that, a lot of the rare ones aren't just obscure niche ones, they're obscure niche games from Japanese developers who couldn't care less about rereleasing it here. A lot of the publishers who are into XBox games tend to have a pretty full library of catalog sales and reprints available.

Nah, he probably meant GBA .. there are no Doom games for the vanilla GB.

I'm glad I can find every title I want to play for the Xbox.

This man speaks the truth.

As much as rare games are cool for street cred and collections, I'd rather be able to get any old game for cheap if I feel the need to play it. I mean I just want to play Radient Silvergun but I don't want to spend $150 on it. Especially when I can get even better games from the time period for $5. Rare games suck :\

Had a hard time tracking down Shenmue 2, for a while.. until I checked on the internet

Riiiiiiiiiight.

It's true, collectible games can sometimes lose as much as 75% of their value if they're opened. I don't know who would be willing to pay 4x as much to put a seal on it.. given the choice of a new game in a store and a used one for $5 less, I have to think long and hard about which one I get, but when the difference is $50.. I don't have to think very long.
