Why is there not many "furries" in video games these days?

Even if that's technically true, the term "Furry" is associated to all kinds of bad connotations.
I love games with weird characters, and the internet is taking that away from me dammit.
It's also a visible distinction in what people describe as *Furry*, from the way characters are drawn and are portrayed, rather than animorphic characters of old (though even there, there's the odd example that probably lead to *Furry culture*.)

Yes, that's true. But that's not what the word refers to normally, and the whole category of anthropomorphic characters ends up in the same set. As a result, people are less likely to like or want strange/non-human characters.

The best thing about games is that weird things can and will happen. That's it.

That's why I'd like the word furry to stay as far away as possible from games. Even the title of this thread is doing games a disservice.

Listen, furry culture was a thing dating back to Ancient Egypt and probably longer before that still. We is the real Ancient Aliens.

I mean, at least we're not as insidious as the fucking feet people.

There's a reason why feet, in addition to other parts of the body are prominently featured in art throughout history. Go to any art museum and you aren't gonna see furries anywhere!

To hell with Amy, give me more Sally!
Aaaayyyy someone remembers the OG Sally Acorn.

Characters like Sally, Lola Bunny, and Krystal are bestial humanoids done right. Such a shame most "furries" in fiction are subject to carnal lust. Pretty sad.

Edit: Also Blaze from Sonic Rush was another good one.

I would call them non human anthro mascot characters and the answers to me would be that Humans are more self absorbed than ever that's why most prefer a custom character they can pretend is themselves over an actual character that is human let a lone a different anthro/mascot/cartoon character. So corperations/developers are just following the money even it makes most main characters stale toast, just look at the destruction of creatively interesting box art if you wanna see it's effects felt somewhere else.

I can tell you the real reason why: kids don't want anthropomorphic animals in their games anymore. They want cooler characters, not lame ones. Deeper characters, not happy go lucky bunnies and dogs.
Not sure about that.

We definitely ruined anthropomorphic characters for them though with all that creepy shit. Now basically associated with middle-aged losers.

I'm not entirely sure if you guys remember, but Dragon Ball used to have loads of furry side characters (including even a notable early antagonist, Boss Rabbit) but mostly dropped any design that didn't look distinctly like an alienlike or mystical being by the time of Dragon Ball Super. It's no wonder Beastars got popular by hitting that niche so hard; the last time a new anime was so furry was in the height of the 'mons genre in the 90's.
As such, the removal of furries from media isn't just restricted to videogames.
I wonder if the sheer lack of furry is a kind of counterculture in response to things like Pokemon, MLP, Sonic, or other "popular" media that happen to have furry characters.

Probably because the whole "anthropomorphic animals" stories went down in popularity after the 2005. I mean, I challenge you to find a famous non-animal protagonist/co-protagonist in that era of gaming.

Nowdays it seems that everything is getting back on track but slowly due to the... erhm... FURRY INFLUENCE.

I hope next gen brings back this guy. I loved the first four.

Sony doesn't give two sh*ts sadly, and Sucker Punch is done with Sly. So... I don't think we'll see the Cooper Band too soon...
