Why the hating...

cyberheater said:
Maybe I joined at a bad time (during E3) but the Sony fanboys were out in full force saying how wonderful the PS3 is and crapping over every 360 announcement. All that "Xbox 1.5" stuff etc...

I didn't see that kind of thing happening from the MS boys.

And the poor old nREV hardly got a mention.

So it's not exactly perception. It was a fact.

No, it is perception. You've chosen to ignore the wealth of positive 360 comments in favor of focusing on the negative. There have been plenty of positive and negative posts about all upcoming systems. It seems to me that the negative comments have simply had more of an effect on you and that is why you've chosen to focus on them.

There has been plenty of negative PS3 talk. Though, perhaps less so than 360, which is to be expected when you consider what was shown (nothing playable).

Yeah, you're correct cyberheater. I definitely see it that way.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be over here setting up a shrine to the PS3 banana controller. Truly, it is the greatest controller ever made!

Touche. :D

Fanboys see what they wanna see. Simple as that. Like I said the ONLY system that recieved a notorius amount of of bashing and trolling worth noting on GAF in the past year was the DS. Now the DS can't be the "Dog of the forum" anymore so the hate is back to being spread across all the systems. Cyber If you notice one system being bashed notably more than others it is most likely your affinity for that particular console as ALL of them are notably bashed.

Not even close, unless you had everyone except Drinky on ignore.

I agree to an extent on your DS comments. At first, perhaps it was warranted if you didn't have perspective (i.e., most post-launch periods just suck ass, for at least the first 6 months to a year). I admit, I purchased a DS at launch and the first few months (even to now, actually) have been brutal. There were just a general lack of games. E3 changed all that for me. I can wait now without any hesitation because the future lineup is absolutely amazing, imho. If anyone is still hating the DS that's their own thing and they obviously have different tastes than me, but I feel the lineup is now amazingly solid.

Are you suggesting that the DS did not have roughly a 60% hate ratio on GAF for a while? I was even one of the ones who dogged the system a because of its non-existent game releases (no pun intended) but once the great software started to come out and the sales picked up everyone had to either back off or remain quiet for the time being or just bash the DS's US performance in hopes that Nintendogs, new colors ect. won't have the same affect it did in Japan.

Drinky had over half the forum on his side during those times.

Don't get me wrong the DS deserved all the hate it could get at the time I felt no sympathy towards it but when I got a good look at Nintendogs I knew Nintendo was sitting on another potential Pokemon so I decided to ease off. Now your right the DS's future lineup looks awsome so people can't openly bash it as much as they use to. But, all that hate has to go somewhere and Wall Guy, Banana Controller, and 2-3x Power were the main recipients which covers all the consoles not just 360 like this guy is trying to portray.

You eased off Nintendo because Nintendogs might have been another Pokemon? Heh, because of sales or because of quality? ;)

Well what I saw for the first time was an application that made sense for the DS hardware and finally I began to understand what Nintendo was trying to do. I figured if Nintendo can bring an extremely intuitive game to DS and be a massive hit then 3rd parties would surely follow in kind with equally intuitive software. And who doesn't have more confidence in a system that does great in the market? Now I have to buy a DS when Sonic Rush, Goemon and Castlevania comes out.

First of all i wouldn't be surprised if i were you Cyber. Sony is the leader of the market by a large margin and just made the best impression at E3. It would seems normal to me that praising fanboys are rampant or hate for Nintendo and Microsoft is a bit higher than usual.
Anyway, you should have been there a couple of weeks ago lol, Nintendo fanboys received their due because they were too loud.

Ah, now I can understand your perspective a bit better. Although, I'll be honest when I say an advanced tamagotchi is not in the cards for me, but such a successful property might encourage third parties to give it more support. Which, judging by E3, won't be a problem at any point in the near future ;)

Not the sort of hate the original poster's talking about, and certainly not to the exclusion of the regular fanboy system hate.

Too many people take messageboards too seriously. Who cares if someone doesn't like the system, or game, you like?

That's just like saying footballs only a game.

Of course it's serious. It's our passion were talking here.

yeah its much better to misrepresent yourself on the internet, much easier to stalk girls that way.

LOL. You'll have to explain to me how you do that and how do you ensure that they are girls :lol

Rev seems to have fixed all the probs everyone had with the GC, so no one can complain about ANYTHING YET until they see the system comes with a free Hamster and wheel as its controller

Not to troll...but fixed all? The biggest problem with Gamecube is a lack of third party games and Nintendo's continued arrogance. It doesn't seem to be changing at all. Rare, Silicon Knights, Factor 5, and Capcom's RE support are now gone too. If anything things are worse off now.

Thanks for responding to my thread guys. I now have a somewhat more balanced view of this forum.

I look forward to our continued discussions.

Uh before / during the PSP release there was massive hate on the DS. I personally don't care about the system so it's not me seeing something that isn't there. I remember countless threads talking about what Nintendo is going to do now they fucked up with DS and PSP is gonna steamroll right over them. This wasn't just Drinky doing it (eventhough he was a huge part of it).

There is less hate now because half this forum had to do a 180 the minute PSP dropped like a rock in Japan and DS had a fantastic E3 showing.

It terms of Next-Gen consoles, while this forum doesn't represent the normal gaming public I'd say it's pretty even. You have a lot of techies on the PS3 side so it might seem a bit unbalanced when it comes to system power / features talk but that's about it.

New European Nintendo Release dates

Not.

When Sony says "Spring 2006"...

Why do Sony hate us so.

A bit late to the market, huh, Templeton?
I'll probably be getting one soon, too. What with imperfect backwards compatibility on the successor machines, and the system going out of production... well, I know there are some things on the machine I'm going to want to check out.

Well I hate Microsoft because of their extensive history of horribly unethical and illegal corporate behavior over the last two decades, in much the same way other people here hate EA or Wal-Mart. That leopard isn't going to change its spots. That's why. :D

Sure. Take a few of my comments out of context why don't you.

And my comments on the lateness and price of PS3 is still valid at this point.
Same for the PSP. Although it didn't stop me getting my much loved PSP on import at Xmas at a hugely inflated price.

And I'll probably get my PS3 on import as soon as it comes out as well.

Which is a fair point. MS are a 900lb gorrila when it comes to their business conduct.

Apart from the 'Shut up' bit, that's not too far from true, though few other companies have been caught in as many big antitrust cases...

Is the another company out there that has been caught with as many as MS. I really do doubt it.

All big companies have pulled their share of boners, but MS has been unique in their continuous stream of IP theft, intimidation, FUD, "partnering" with smaller companies then fucking them over by building their technologies into Windows, etc., ever since they told IBM they had an OS for their personal computers, then turned around and bought a pirated hacked version of CP/M from some unwitting slob. I think it's just built into their corporate DNA. :P

I'm new to these boards but it seems that there is a lot of hating for MS/360 on here.

Any news that comes out for 360 gets instantly slagged and PS3 can do no wrong.

I'm just trying to gauge the feeling here. Are the majority of you die hard Sony fanboys (which is okay if you are - I know gaming is pationate and brings out strong consumer loyalty) or is there another reason.

It seems the split is somewhere around 80/20 in favour of Sony.

And has it always been this way at GAF.

BTW. I'm not trolling. I'm just trying to gauge feeling here.

Warning-- if you see 360 bashing but miss the PS3 bashing, you have some blinders on. You must have missed all the ragging on Sony for showing the Killzone footage, which was rendered.

I think there are more Sony fans here, but if you're dividing people into camps and countign, you've already lost.

(And it certainly wasn't always this wayat GAF, but it certainly has been since the debut fo the PS2 or so. Time was when Sega was the most-loved company here.)

EDIT: So I just caught up in the thread and this has all been said already. Okee dokee.

Pretty convenient that you've missed the PS3 E3 render show ragging, the PS3 has too many ports ragging, and the PS3 is too big, and has a boomerang controller ragging...

Apparently you also missed the PSP is in a slump ragging as well.

Some and or all the above are justified and maybe if you took a better look at the forum you'd have seen all that which would have precluded you from making this dumb thread and precluded me from having to post in it and call it dumb.

The DS/PSP ragging is the most obnoxious to me. First, the Ninbots (for ages) are talking about how doomed any non-Nintendo handheld is going to be, the PSP will cost $400, etc. Then there's a serious backlash from the Sony Fanboys when the price is lower and the PSP doesn't die on arrival, and even more obnoxiousness about the death of the DS once the PSP outsells the DS for a few weeks (in the off season, I might add, when it doesn't really matter all that much). Now that the DS is outselling the PSP (in the off season, I might add, when it doesn't really matter all that much) it's the PSP that is doomed. All of this at a time of relative software drought and in the slow season. So much drama over so little.... fueled, no doubt, *by* the drought. If were had better games for our handhelds we wouldn't see so much trumpeting narrow sales leads.

Believe me, I wanted to be blown away by the Xbox 360 but
right now they seem to be focused on

1) being first to the market
2) cutting losses on Xbox 1
3) pushing microtransactions

I guess they think people will blindly jump on the new console bandwagon and not notice that the graphics still look like Xbox games.

Why the hating... #83
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well I hate Microsoft because of their extensive history of horribly unethical and illegal corporate behavior over the last two decades, in much the same way other people here hate EA or Wal-Mart. That leopard isn't going to change its spots. That's why. :D

Well, it's no secret how I feel about MS as a company; I design networks for a living, and to put it succinctly everything about the corporation sucks.

For the most part I like the potential of the 360, but the only game even close to looking next gen at this time is Gears of War. For this reason, I could care less about the system until next year, especially because Rare ruined PD0. I was gonna buy one at launch for that. Now, I'll wait and weigh the "Spiderman fridge" against the 360 next Spring. If Sony delivers as expected on games like Heavenly Sword I simply may not get a 360 for a while; they have to show me more than Gears of War first.. IMO MS is in such a hurry to put the 360 on the market that it has some major flaws. No included wireless, and no next gen drive are huge. Also, the launch games really give the "XBox 1.5" impression. If the media uses the phrase, I'm certainly not afraid to. As for fanboys...

I am a Nintendo fan and will buy the Revolution pretty much regardless unless they completely screw the pooch with the system. Second would be Sony, and last would be MS.

I havent really been keeping up....what are these microtransactions that were mentioned? They sound like they could be cool.

Own a racing game with customizable and unlock cars.

You look online and someone has unlocked and customized a kickass car.

Buy it and download it to use in YOUR game for $.99

Apply that to any game that has customization options... the options are limitless.

Not to sound like a broken record, but you've played Perfect Dark Zero? Man! And they ruined it? Fill us in, what didn't you like? For that matter, what, if anything, did you like?

Absolutely. This man speaks the truth - he's probably even posted a picture of the receipt for his X360, am I right? :D
