Wii U Games 2013

I really don't know where else to ask this, but I feel I need GAF's input here.

I have the opportunity to buy a Wii U on Kijiji (basically Craigslist) for $150, its the white basic 8GB model. The console itself has some scratches apparently but the gamepad is in mint condition (according to the seller himself). It also comes with a Wiimote, a nunchuk and a 8GB SD card.

Should I bite on it or wait in case of a Wii U price drop? It seems like a really good deal, even if it's not new.

That seems like a really good deal, even a price cut will get no where near that much off.

Whoa, this is almost the same deal I struck on Craigslist a few days ago.
I went ahead with my purchase because I was certain that I'd buy one next year at the latest with no deals that should come close to the used price point. Besides I can enjoy some new experiences now, so I think it's worth it.

That's what most people here have been saying. that a pricecut will cut $50 or $70 off, somewhere in that ballpark.

There really are only a few games out on it right now that interest me (Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper, ZombiU, Lego City) but there are more games coming out in the coming year that interests me like 3D Sonic, 3D Mario, Mario Kart 8, WW HD, Smash Bros, etc.

Its a tempting deal, I'm close to pulling the trigger on it.

I definately would, I got a deluxe at launch and dont regret it, NSMB U is really fun, and the lineup starting the Pikmin 3 is really good.
 
I would totally bite on $150, even for the Basic. Sounds like you've got a good amount of titles lined up in your head to make it worth it. I'd go for it.
 
^ Thanks for the advice guys, I'm going to contact the seller again tomorrow and assuming all goes well I should buy it from him by the end of the week (hopefully if nobody else does).
 
I don't see a 100$ pricedrop from Nintendo as their next move.

You already seem to have made up your mind but just reaffirming your good judgment and what others are saying.

It's a great deal if the Gamepad is in that good of shape.

the 8 gig SD card will be of zero use to you as the Wii U does not support SD cards (the slot only exists for Wii mode)

be aware of that.
 
I just acknowledged that in August there will be a deadly week for my wallet with W101, Splinter Cell and Disney Infinity coming within three days.

I would like the box but it's going to be cheaper overall for me to get it digitally thanks to the Fire Emblem and SMT4 deal. Ugh decisions. I don't think there is going to be anyone I would need to lend the game to. My younger cousin doesn't typically like things like this and his parents just got him and his little sister a Wii U. Then again there is the off chance they might at some point. I guess that's really holding me back.

Nah. No way Game & Wario will ever have a place in my home. Not even an option. I think I might just stick with the retail copy from NewEgg (did put the order in last year with a promo code) and save the eShop credit.

Yes, the only way to expand your Wii U memory is via an external HDD or a USB drive. SD Cards aren't recognized by the Wii U as they are only there to facilitate backwards compatibility with the Wii as that needs the SD card.

Interesting to see prices start to bottom out for the 3rd party launch titles on Amazon.

I already have AC3, ME3 and Blops 2.

Looking to get NFS, Batman, Darksiders, ZombiU and Madden still.

Yeah I grabbed ME3, AC3, and NFS for a total of $65 over the past couple months. Not bad.
 
Uh....I just noticed that on the eShop in the Rayman Legends section, it's saying that it's a retail release only. I REALLY hope that's just a placeholder and not actually the case. No digital version. No sale.

Dead serious.

Before all the delay/multiplatform drama, it was retail and downloadable.
The weird thing is... Nintendo was promoting the game the same way they're promoting TW101.
After all, they were (are?) publishing the game in Japan.
Now they seem to have fully stopped all kinds of promotion for this game but I guess it's logical since it is not a Nintendo exclusive anymore.

And I'm sure about that because I was planning to get it digital. Didn't know about the change.

EDIT: Nope, they're still publishing it.

No sale for me either, sadly. Not until it gets dirt cheap where importing it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I would have bought it full price if it were on the eShop.

Hell, forget that. PC version it is.

It's better and worse at the same time.

+ Off-TV play
+ Co-Driver Mode
+ other gamepad features (disable traffic, switch cars, switch from night to day, view map, disrupt the cops)
+ first DLC (Ultimate Speed Pack) is included
+ better textures and lighting AFAIK
+ no head set neccessary for voice chat, gamepad microphone works
+ supports every possible control option (GamePad (normal or motion controls), Wii Remote (also with Wii Wheel), Wii Remote & Nunchuk, Wii U Pro Controller, Wii Classic Controller (Pro). All buttons are mappable. You can even use the analog sticks for gas.

- only 6 instead of 8 players online (but I think 6 is still enough chaos)
- no DLC (I don't care for more cars, but I would have liked the Terminal Velocity DLC, which adds a new area)
 
MIght want to list that Batman Arkham Origins is getting a multiplayer mode in all the versions but the WIi U. That makes it a 100% a non-buy for me as the price is likely to be the same as the other versions.

Edit: I could get it on the PS3 but not really feeling it now. If you must get the game get it on another platform and don't buy an inferior version.

Well I was already getting the PS3 version (played Asylum and City on PS3 too), but goddamn what is up with devs and just screwing over the Wii U version of their games?

Mass Effect 3: EA announced the whole trilogy in one package for 360 and PS3 one month before the release.
Rayman Legends: Delayed and lost exclusivity.
Deus Ex: Lost exclusivity and most expensive version.

Now this.

Just finished Pikmin 3. Needed 31 days, about 12h gametime, collected 47 fruits but i'll go back and collect them all. Main story is rather short but man it's such a beatiful, nice and fun game!

Btw, how do some people manage to collect all the fruits in 10 days?!
 
After the launch I will have fewer $60 games and get more games on the cheap.

From the lower price games I can recommend AC3, slow start but solid game overall.

Plan on getting NFS, Batman AC, maybe Darksiders and TTT2

ME3 too, but I am slowly playing through the saga starting with 1, so will buy later.

I hate to be limited money wise right now. :(

Checked the eShop again. Looks like the Rayman Legends section got updated to include retail AND digital available at release, so we're good to go. Guess that was just a placeholder after all.

I think there has to be a Nintendo Direct by the end of next week. Black 3DSXL, W101, Gamecube VC, Account System, and hopefully a price drop.

Nintendo really needs to start putting stuff out there. Really no reason to not be adding more games to the VC on a weekly basis. An F Zero GX HD with online would be a good start.

This. Offer this, even instead of a "full" f-zero retail release and people would be all over it. Make it s $30 eShop release. HD (with a few upgraded textures) and online, and done.

Has anyone else noticed that many of the games that are out or are coming soon have AMAZING box art that brings you back to the days where everything wasn't all dark and gritty? I mean, I know that's typical for a Nintendo console, but goddamn if Pikmin 3, NSMBU and Wonderful 101 don't belong framed on a wall together. They do a great job of making the games look fun.

I am positive there will be one in the middle of next week for W101- the game comes out in 3 weeks in Japan and next week would be the exact same time that the Pikmin 3 Direct and advertising started in Japan.

The only question is whether there will be other stuff.
