Wii U Games 2013

Q1 2014
Only version delayed it seems

Somehow, this wouldn't surprise me. I recall John Harker saying that future Wii U titles depended on the sales of Splinter Cell Blacklist, and we all know how well that sold.

No, they don't care if AAA games sell on Wii U or not, neither does Activision. Watch Dogs, AC4, COD: Ghosts are all loss leaders. Ubi/Activision are realesing them to appease Nintendo so they can release more casual fare like Just Dance, which sell HUGE numbers on Nintendo systems. So, in a way, casual games are the reason that you still get some AAA ports on Wii U, for now.
Why would Ubisoft and Activision have to release games to "appease" Nintendo? I highly doubt that, at a time when their console is doing so poorly, they'd snub 2 of the 3 largest publishers from releasing casual games because they didn't release their AAA ones too. Besides, Nintendo makes a cut off every software sale, so preventing them from releasing Just Dance hurts their bottom line too. The whole idea is nonsensical, and Nintendo would find itself in even worse standing with third parties if it came out they were threatening to blackball major publishers. It would also squelch their indie momentum too.

My statement was confirmed by both Ubisoft and Activision when they initially announced that their 2013 AAA lineups were coming to Wii U. Here's a statement by Ubisoft's Alain Corre

"We believe in Nintendo," he said. "Nintendo is a company that has proven in the last 30 years that they are able to fascinate tens of millions of gamers.

"Nintendo is a great game creator; they are magic to a lot of gamers. And we've had a lot of great experiences with Nintendo in the past, such as the Wii and the Just Dance franchise. It has become one of the major franchises on the Nintendo system and is growing on Wii U."

Eric Hirshberg of Activision made similar statements. You have to read between the lines a bit, but the clear implication is that Ubi/Activision wants to sell their casual games on Nintendo hardware. On the other hand, their hardcore games for Wii U have limited print runs and no advertising, so I think we can put 2 and 2 together :-)

Wii Party U is not $50 if you look around. $39.99 pre-order on Newegg, which looks to include the Wii Remote + and the stand.
Preordered mine yesterday.
Also their description says this:
"- Online multiplayer support was hinted at by Nintendo, a feature which would involve a new set of mini games specifically tailored for online multiplayer."

You can get an additional $5 off with this code "EMCXLVP96" This code last for the next 72 hours.

So comes up to $34.99 for the game.

This does nothing to "confirm" your speculation. Nobody denied that Ubisoft wants to sell Just Dance on Nintendo systems.

Your "appease Nintendo with gritty action games" theory is still as much wild speculation as it was before.

That's really not reading between the lines, because you're projecting your assumption onto that quote and then deriving your assumption back out of it. The statement doesn't mention anything about AAA games or their reasoning for releasing them. It seems to be a straightforward confirmation that the Wii audience ate up Just Dance.

The reason their games get small print runs and no advertising is because they did projections based on demographic data or projected sales and budgeted accordingly.

Indeed.

The part about online multiplayer... wonder where that came from. Interesting. Haven't found anything else about that.

Regarding Watch_Dogs, if Splinter Cell was going to dictate the cancellation of Watch_Dogs Wii U, that'd be absurd this late in the game, but would make more sense than a delay, which would absolutely kill any sales it would have gotten in the first place...

Throwing more resources at it to finish on time would most likely yield a better ROI than taking their sweet time on it, then releasing it at full price once the other versions are already available new for under $40.

Well, where there's smoke there's fire. I'm making the most plausible conclusion given the facts that we have and general business sense. Other developers have cancelled or not made Wii U ports explicitly because of demographics and sales. Why would Ubisoft or Activision not do the same with the same information? The Ubi quote gives us a good rationale: that they want to sell casual games on the system. If they don't port over their AAA games then die hard Nintendo fans will bitch that they don't support Nintendo platforms or "all they give us is shovelware and casual shit" You know that you heard that very critique countless times in the last generation on Wii. Just look at the blood vendetta that many Nintendo fans have with EA and the whole Origins fiasco. Better to take a small loss on a Watch Dogs or Batman port and keep the Just Dance cash cow going.

Activision and Ubi recognize that there is value in keeping Nintendo hardware around. It's been able to open up certain markets for them better than MS/Sony have been able to. It also helps them having another player in the game, to keep 1st parties honest, and interested in doing things like marketing deals and DLC exclusivity. They sell software, and having 3 successful platform holders gives them more places to do so. I'm somewhat baffled by EA's indifference in that regard.

It would be kind of insane to base future support on Splinter Cell, since that hit before the fall push of games and the price cut. Assassin's Creed (which judging by the size of the Miiverse did alright last time around) and Rayman will be a better bellwether for the viability of the console for Ubi.

I'd figure I'd ask here.

Let's say that I get the Wii U LoZ bundle then later on I get the physical copy.

Will my save transfer from the digital to the physical?

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but Wii Party U is only $35 on Newegg with promo code EMCXLVP96.

At this price everyone should get it.

I kind of feel dumb for paying $30 for a Wiimote Plus last week. Still though, this is an awesome deal, and I could use another one.

It should. Your save data is on the hard drive. The game will be able to read it regardless of if it's on a disk on on your hard drive.

People always cite the Miiverse numbers. That little number... are we SURE we know what that means? Number of owners of the game with their console connected to the internet? Number of people who have favorited the miiverse community? Number of POSTS in the miiverse community?

Did Nintendo ever clarify this? All I've seen so far has appeared to be speculation.

It's not really about the absolute numbers, but rather comparing the numbers with the ones of the games that we know they did reasonably well. Sometimes it works, as an indication.

Warner Bros. doesn't care about Just Dance sales. Neither does Activision.

Dude, you know what I mean. WB/Ubi/Activision care about the sales of their respective casual series. For the record I'm not saying any of this as an insult. I think it's a good deal if those 3 keep their AAA ports coming because they want casual sales. It's a win/win for everybody.

Straight from the Miiverse Manual.

Looks like 1 number represents 1 wiiU account, doesn't matter if they have the game or not.

What is Warner Bros. "casual IP" on Wii U?

I'll give you Activision with Skylanders.

Cool. Thanks and to others who answered. Missed that somehow. That's a halfway decent indicator then, if not in sales definitely in interest.

I was afraid it was number of POSTS, but thinking about it, the numbers would then be way too low.

One can never have too many Wiimote Pluses
I only have 2, my 3rd is a regular Wiimote :(

Looks like OOS. Sorry man :\

Damn. Saw this as I was walking out of class, really should've jumped on it when I got to my computer at home but completely forgot about it =\

Looks like I'll just pick it up from Amazon, probably. What's the release date for it again?

October 25 according to OP ;)

At least you'll get it sooner than me, assuming you have 2-day shipping.

No, not at newegg but at Futureshop. They had this promo last June(E3 sale) where they gave 33% sale on almost all pre-order games available($40, $50, $60).

Oh yeah, I didn't pre order anything from them, didn't have the money to do so then.

Bah, pre-ordered Wii U Party yesterday at $39.99 and went back today to re-pre-order it with the $5 off code and I'm also getting the "notify me". Maybe they realized they had the wrong retail price on it.

I wonder. That price was pretty low and then the coupon on top of it.

When you guys say 'this version gets no advertisements' that typically means 'said first party didn't give us cash to do it'

Generally speaking, publisher don't care WHAT you buy, unless a first party incentivizes them to care by supporting a particular version. no reason to get mad at them because their spots aren't tagged with one box art or the other... revenue is revenue, unless there's a content partnership involved.

But what about the Splinter Cell UK Tv ads which featured box art for PS3, 360 and PC. Are you saying both Sony and MS paid for that? Who paid for the PC rep?

Exactly my point. No one did that's why it's not showing a specific platform

So what was up with the missing Wii U cover then?

EDIT: Well if it really happened that is. I do remember seeing a screenshot like that and that's what I think Oregano was referencing to.

EDIT2: Well I found only two ads. One with only 360 logo at the end at other in UK that featured logos for 360, PC and PS3 versions only. Can't find the ad with box arts right now.

Yeah the TV ad had boxarts. I mean it probably would have made minimal difference to sales but it surely couldn't have hurt to include the Wii U box.

PS I suck at Splinter Cell. :(

Guys, it's just a rumor for the moment. I'm feeling sorry to having brought it up now...can we focus on the topic, please? let those comments to the dedicated thread that there will be once Ubi eventually confirm the delay.
