Wii U Games 2013

My statement was confirmed by both Ubisoft and Activision when they initially announced that their 2013 AAA lineups were coming to Wii U. Here's a statement by Ubisoft's Alain Corre

"We believe in Nintendo," he said. "Nintendo is a company that has proven in the last 30 years that they are able to fascinate tens of millions of gamers.

"Nintendo is a great game creator; they are magic to a lot of gamers. And we've had a lot of great experiences with Nintendo in the past, such as the Wii and the Just Dance franchise. It has become one of the major franchises on the Nintendo system and is growing on Wii U."

Eric Hirshberg of Activision made similar statements. You have to read between the lines a bit, but the clear implication is that Ubi/Activision wants to sell their casual games on Nintendo hardware. On the other hand, their hardcore games for Wii U have limited print runs and no advertising, so I think we can put 2 and 2 together :-)

Nintendo has released leess games than Ubiosft on the WiiU so far, and haven't exactly been better at advertising them. So Nintendo wants to kill the WiiU, I guess?

Well, where there's smoke there's fire. I'm making the most plausible conclusion given the facts that we have and general business sense. Other developers have cancelled or not made Wii U ports explicitly because of demographics and sales. Why would Ubisoft or Activision not do the same with the same information? The Ubi quote gives us a good rationale: that they want to sell casual games on the system. If they don't port over their AAA games then die hard Nintendo fans will bitch that they don't support Nintendo platforms or "all they give us is shovelware and casual shit" You know that you heard that very critique countless times in the last generation on Wii. Just look at the blood vendetta that many Nintendo fans have with EA and the whole Origins fiasco. Better to take a small loss on a Watch Dogs or Batman port and keep the Just Dance cash cow going.
Setting aside that the goalposts have moved from appeasing Nintendo to appeasing Nintendo fans, the answer to your bolded portion is simple: they still believe there is a chance for money to be made.

Stop equating publishers, first of all. EA is not Ubisoft is not Activision. They each will be doing their own business analysis for each title and platform, and invariably reaching different conclusions. Reading something into the fact that EA and other publishers aren't supporting the platform while Ubisoft and Activison are is misguided.

It's simple: rational businesses make calculated risky decisions to try and make money. Anything more than that that you infer is going to be colored by the myopic view of consumers. (See also: bullshit Origin conspiracy theories, EA hates Nintendo, companies intentionally doom their WiiU SKUs, etc.)

You just posted someone's post verbatim. In other words, copy and pasted without attribution.

Wait, what? I don't see how that's possible since I just spent ten frustrating minutes tapping that out on my phone. And unless they made the same autocorrect mistakes I did on the word "appeasing" (twice) that I had to edit and fix, I'm not sure how that would be possible. Link?

It could be an incredible coincidence but I'm having a strong moment of déjà vu. The phrasing used is so strikingly similar right down to the second and third paragraph.

It would have to be a coincidence. I wrote the past on my phone on a train with spotty connection. If I could've posted a link to someome who said it, I would've to save myself the trouble and time.

Sorry if I'm prickly, but it's frustrating spending time making a post and being told you not only copied it from someone else, but were a dick and didn't give due credit. That's not the kind of poster or person I am, and it's both aggravating and depressing to be told otherwise.

Just to let you few who either bought Funky Barn or have had some interest, but Tantalus patched the game with a lot of fixes:

News
Funky Barn is now available for download from the Nintendo eShop in European territories which also includes some fixes:

Frame-rate has been improved for highly populated farms
A rendering problem of water in winter
Field-of-view of silhouette view now exactly matches that of the TV screen

Soon the North American eShop will have Funky Barn for download, which fixes the three issues above plus:

Insufficient space error message now allows user to jump to data management screen
A fatal error message could appear if the user presses the Home Button while saving
The game would crash when placing a 16th trough (the maximum)
A glitch in tutorial where the "thirsty chick" message can appear twice (which allows the user to enter the shop for a second time causing a potential crash)
The software keyboard wouldn't reappear from entering farm name when rapidly pressing the A button after entering farmer's name

We have just prepared a patch for the disk version, which will be available soon, which fixes all of the above issues plus:

The game could crash if too much (and we mean a LOT) produce is created at the same time
Fixed a lock-up when activating the map for the first time while a disaster (tornado or storm) is active

This is oddly heart-warming. When the Wii U launched, the miiverse community was taken over by people thinking this game was shovelware, yet the developer is still there for the few fans offering patches. Good for them. This is better post-launch support than a whole host of Wii U titles.

Don't forget Tantalus and Straight Right are essentially one and the same..

Both were formed by Tom Crago.

I don't get the watch dogs delay rumor? Ubi soft has been pretty impartial, and it's not like they have openly shown all versions of the game. We haven't seen COD:ghosts on wiiU either does that mean it's delayed?

Delaying the wiiU version would literally be suiciding the game.

Indeed. It may have enough buzz and interest to be one of the better selling 3rd party games this year, and make back the porting cost at least possibly with a decent chunk to spare.

But delay it, and you can completely forget about even that modest level of success.

So far we have an unnamed but "trusted" (based on the say so of one poster here) source in retail, and a couple extremely cryptic comments from John Harker which may or may not simple be references to this rumor (he gave no indication whether it's that or if it's corroboration from his own source(s).

Me, I still very much doubt this rumor. It would be completely asinine. They would have a better cost benefit if they spent a little extra to put more resources on it to get it out on time than if they let it get delayed due to the certainty of lost sales.

Got a fantastic deal on a Wii U ($150 for the Deluxe) and I'm looking for games that use the controller uniquely. I played the W101 demo and Zombi U Demo and really enjoyed those and will pick those up but are there any other games that make good use of the pad?

Batman Arkham City, Lego City Undercover, Pikmin 3 and Need For Speed U are a few.

i would actually have bought it 6 months ago, got a lot of games competing for my limited cash now

same thing here.

Maybe after a few months they put it on sale on the eshop and then i could buy it

(not a single retail game has been put on sale on the wiiu eshop until today)

Funny how there was a 50% off sale on Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate just last week. lol

There have even been permanent price reductions of retail games.

Keep spreading misinformation and/or lies. Seems to be working.

I guess here is a good enough place to ask:

Where do you go to check on the current status of downloads? I believe I'm currently downloading wind waker after putting in the code, but I dont know where I go to check...

Press home button and on the right hand side you will see downloads.

*Beaten

Hit the home button, then there's a blue icon for downloads.

Thanks! The one thing I didn't check...

Also, another random Wii U question. Is there any issue with constantly keeping the Pad on the charging cradle? Or is it one of those items that you don't want to always have plugged into a charger?

The charging cradle is made for you to put it on there. You'll notice that the charging light turns off once it's charged. Same with the 3DS. Kinda defeats the point of shipping your product with a dedicated cradle if you have to take it off of it all the time to not kill it.

Another thing you might not have seen but didn't ask about: there's also a MANUAL button in the home menu. Every physical and digital game or app has a digital manual that you can access this way. Many people don't know this.
