They announced new games during the Jan. briefing long before Nintendo directs so its possible

Anything is possible. I'm saying don't expect it because I can already see the rage posts "lol they announced NOTHING? no new megaton exclusive?? WTF IWATA!!" ...

Fatal to expect or fatal to announce ?

Expect.

Does anyone else think they will drop the price again?

No. They literally just dropped the price. I don't expect another drop until the second half of 2014. They can't lose even more money. They need to put out more games is all. That's why people are dropping the bullshit "will buy when 99cents" excuse because there aren't enough reasons to get one for those people.

There have been a bunch of deals anyway. In Canada, there seems to be a new deal every other week, no idea why people are waiting for official price drops.

Exactly. You have to have some shitty luck or live in a very special area that doesn't have any deals whatsoever for some reason. Even before the official price drop retailers have sold a deluxe Wii U for ridiculously cheap.

They'll drop the bomb at the briefing this week.

So they won't drop any bombs, you say? lol

People really think X will hit this year? I'd be surprised at a Japanese launch this year, let alone a NA/EU launch.

Why should anyone think otherwise? It has a 2014 date in all regions. We know localization has been going on simultaneously and we've seen the game in action twice and it looked really far along already. I said it countless times but other than irrational pessimism, there's no reason to question a 2014 release.

Funny you bring this up too, because it's an excuse for people not buying games too.

There have been some good sales, but almost none better than the 20% off eshop promo that happened a couple weeks back. If more folks jumped on that they could have gotten some good prices on games especially paired with the DDP extra 10% back.

take Deus Ex for example, if you bought a $50 eshop card for $40, then got the game, you would have insta netted a $5 DDP voucher. So the game would be net roughly $35. Which I believe is in most folks wheel house. Add on to that the fact that the game is hard to find in retail and it has excellent replay value, it is the perfect digital game.

So Peeps, keep an eye out to maximize value in ways you may have never thought of. I bought several games digitally last year thanks to that promo and saved a ton, and the DDP bonuses racked up and helped too.

That's how I'm feeling right now too. Japan in December, NA/EU early 2015. It just feels really early on that game.

Hopefully I'm wrong and we get a media blowout at an upcoming Direct/E3 ^_^

Dunno why people think X Can't hit world wide this year. There's been nothing indicating it won't and everything saying it will.

Why does it feel early? We first saw the game a year ago, and this year will be 4 years since Xenoblade launch in Japan. We know Nintendo doesnt talk about games until almost launch, there is no reason to think it wont come out this year. Unless E3 comes and goes and we hear nothing then people can say that.

Vanillalite

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Only reason it still feels early is it hasn't been fully explained and playable.

I think it'll hit in 2014 as well, but I can see why people would be skeptical.

As much as I want a Nintendo Direct this week, I don't think all those developers have new games to show in it right now. And if you think about it, all of them have released games in the eshop in the last months. Maybe they are just announcing sales in their titles, or some kind of bundle.

Two Tribes is deep underway with their new scrolling shooter, and Gaijin's overdue for a new BT game (last one was at Wii U launch).

KnapNok is working with Nifflas who created NightSky on a new Wii U game that he says is inspired by... Steel Battalion?!

Think BlackForest also has said they have more underway, not sure.

And although not mentioned, Shin'en might show their second new Wii U game soon and still have to show off FAST Neo.

Which is not contradictory with a Direct, plus what Hero of Legend just wrote.

Lots of snow. Where I am anyway.

o_O 1080° Snowboarding U confirmed!

A more pessimistic look at the Two Tribes tweet: The KnapKnok news could just be the first free update, Gaijin Games could be more DLC as well as the news from BlackForest. Two Tribes has to be the scrolling shooter but I can't figure out what the news from WayForward could be.
Worst case: an eShop retail compilation.

Edit: Maybe WayForward will announce a Wii U version of Shantae: Risky's Revenge Director's Cut.

Man I would love a Nintendo Direct this week but for some reason I am skeptical... All I really need is some official release dates for some of these big titles to give me some comfort and peace. I don't know why but if they were to just tell me that Smash wasn't coming out until Nov. I would be ok with it because I would know not to expect it til then but if I have to just keep waiting and wondering when it will release and then it didn't release til Nov with the release date revealed like a month or two before. Is it just me?

Even the thought of an incoming Nintendo Direct has me all tingly. Surely they HAVE to pull out all the stops with their next one, right guys?

... right?

:/

I'll never be able to quit you, Nintendo

They have to gives dates for some of their games this week. Only having a date for Donkey Kong at this point is pretty suicidal.

Ok guys so I just surprised myself and got a cheap new copy of Pikmin 3 (cheap considering I'm in Mexico lol). I don't know what to expect of this game, graphically looks stunning and seems that this one has a mission mode woth enough content but I didn't enjo Pikmin 2 at all due to some problems I had with he game but I liked the concept. I hope his game polished what was wrong with 2 and is a vey fun game, I'll start playing now, wish me luck!

Yeah, I think this is maybe their most damaging policy for Wii U. It keeps always this state of uncertainty about it. Announce some damn dates, for the next 6 months at list. You don't have to announce everything and spoil surprises, but you can't expect to have everything as a surprise and people to have confidence in your product. Even if you delay some games later, this happens for all the producers, look at Watch Dogs, GTA V and Driveclub.

I fully agree. To only know the date for Donkey Kong, which is less than a month away, is absolutely ridiculous. I think that knowing more release dates would instill some confidence in owners of the console that games are, in fact, actually going to be released.

With any luck, we'll know more this week.

Nice games, but as a life long fan, still not a reason for me to buy it. I guess at this moment, only Zelda U can change that for me. WW HD looks awesome as fuck, too, but I played it already on NGC. And NSMB U en DKC TF, I don't know.. yeah they look pretty effing sweet, but a 2D platform usually isn't (read: never) a big factor for me to buy a 250/300 Euro console or not.

Zelda U or a new attractive IP is what's going to lure me.

Seriously, what an out of the blue thing, and I'm not BS you, have a look!

I'm thinking like a fucking epic Mech game ala X that will blow our minds. But maybe he's just talking about control-wise?

I think he's referring mostly to the concept of having a complex, extremely specialised control scheme for one game, preferably in the simulation genre. This is exactly the kind of stuff I wanted to see on Wii U all along, so more power to him!

Imagine a crazy scenario where a Wii U game allowed you to use the gamepad+touchscreen, as well as the balance board (pedals) and maybe even a separate wiimote or two for pointing and stuff :D
That would be like the second coming of Steel Battalion.

Its Nintendo VR. Tape the pad to your head. Dual WiiMotes for Guns/hands/whatever and the balance board for movement, like one of those threadmill things I've seen used with Occulus rift.

And unlikely if Sony did it, any tape would work and not only Sony-tape, sold at 50bux/meter.
