Wii U marketing materials starting to arrive at retail stores

I like how they still haven't made people understand that the system is more than the controller. A facebook friend recently posted

"So the Wii U is basically a Nintendo DS with a bigger screen, better graphics, and bigger dpad".

Such a ridiculous fail on their part.
I'm not so sure that's a fail hahah.

The DS arguably has one of the best libraries ever so I'd call that a positive if the Wii U can be seen as such.

EA will drop the console if they feel they won't be able to get money from it. Remember the Dreamcast?

This is an entirely different situation. ENTIRELY. EA may not give their all out effort and energy when it comes to the Wii U but they aren't going to drop support for it. The Wii U will sell at least 50 million IMO. EA isn't going to turn down that money.

No matter when Nintendo is releasing the Wii U, they really REALLY need to start advertising.

Anyway, can I ask why some people are thinking October? Is there some precedent that once marketting materials go out that we see the console within X months?

It's just the earliest not-completely-impossible prediction. Major retailers usually ask for a 2 month advance notice before a major entertainment release. If we get a release date announcement in the next few days, it could be october.

Correct. And besides, EA didn't support the Dreamcast from the beginning.

Pretty sure the first sports titles on PS4/720 will be shit compared to the latest versions as well considering the fact that they'll have to build the engine again for new hardware.

I just get the feeling that EA will deliver for MS and or Sony what it isn't with the WiiU at launch. Considering their close relationship and assumed partnership in developing the online network, I hoped they could have at least released their sports line up on equal footing. The fact that even with all the collaboration with Nintendo they are releasing the lesser versions is very underwhelming.

And if Fifa/Madden keep the touchscreen controls that people seem to be excited about I'm sure they'll stay as the better versions in the non-graphics department.

I'd hope so. I don't play many games but I need my Nintendo games and sports games. I basically had to buy a second system this past gen just to play the EA sports games. I'd like to just buy the WiiU and play the same sports titles as people on the other systems with the only difference being lesser graphics.

I'm afraid that once again I will have to invest into two systems :(

Both Madden and FIFA are lacking major features. Madden is missing an entire brand new physics engine, ffs. Inexcusable. It's the inferior version from the get go and hopefully people don't support just lazy efforts by picking it up.

That plus it will obviously come out months after the release for the current systems means I won't be buying either game on the WiiU. At least not this year. Unless the reviews are shockingly good. Of course EA might use lack of sales as evidence that the games don't see on the WiiU anyway and put even less effort going forward.

Are we seriously turning this into another graphical debate? Seriously?

Should we outright ban all next generation console discussion since people insist on having a goddamn fucking pissing contest in every thread?

Just about every Wii U thread turns into a graphics thread. It shows you the people that play games and the people who "watch" games.
