Wii U Satisfaction Thread

Really? Your the first person I've heard say this. I'm about 50 hours in and still feel I've barely scratched the surface of monster hunter. Are you playing online with GAFers? It's been a lot of fun just helping people out and questing with people you can later on talk about with on the forums.

Not playing online just yet. I'm waiting until I can get a headset as I don't really want voices of other players coming out of the TV or gamepad for others that might be nearby to hear. I do enjoy the game but like Tri I don't feel the need to play the game constantly. I still have 3DS games I'm playing to that I got back to like Harvest Moon and Fire Emblem. I really enjoy Monster Hunter but I'm not in love with it. However unlike Tri I'm going to keep the game in rotation. No of course this can easily change. I could have the desire day to play nothing but MH. Then there are days I have no desire. For the past two days I haven't touched the game for example but have been playing Lego City instead.

Ok so 2 stupid questions:

1. Do I HAVE to use the Wiimote to play the old Wii games or can I use the pro controller that came in my wii u bundle

2. What decent RPGs did the Wii have during it's rain of terror since I am totally clueless on it's library.

The official Nintendo Pro controller is NOT compatible with the vWii environment that runs the old Wii games. You can't even use it in place of the Wii Classic Controller (though some WiiU games support the old Classic Controller).

Yeah. It's the best RPG I've played since...probably Chrono Trigger.

For real? I played it for about a week and kind of trailed off. What do you like about it? The story? I just reached
the ocean at the top of the bionis with the floating city (sorry... I forget the names)
. Should I keep playing?

................you reached that far in a week?

Christ, what have I been doing all this time.

1. YES, Wii mote only

2. Zelda, Fire Emblem, Tales of Symphonia, Super Paper Mario.

Yeah, fortunately I was able to get it for $50. Hopefully that HD remake rumor turns out to be real so everyone who wants to can pick it up.

Edit:

You could always use the classic controller pro. That's what I've been using for Xenoblade.

Ah some ray of hope one both fronts I'm going to gamestop today to see if I can locate the Last Story since I have heard good things about that

Does Batman AC look good on gamepad? Is it the best way to play it that way?

It's fine with the Gamepad although I'm so used to having the map on the screen and the action on the T.V. that I struggle with my sense of direction with off T.V. play, although that could just be me.

NFS definitely help but it's contending with Red Dead Redemption and Dragon's Dogma, two games I just got cheap on Amazon for PS3. So yeah, it still has a ways to go.

I loved the sense of scale and adventure; I don't think I've ever been so willing to get lost in a world before. I was a complete slave to Xenoblade - the world just suffocates you. When I wasn't playing, I was thinking about playing. I'd forgo my time at the gym and walks with my dog because of this fucking thing. A game like this is dangerous for someone like me, which is why I've stayed the hell away from MMO's for so long. In fact, Xenoblade is so good, I'm going to pass on X.

BTW, you should really keep playing. You are literally right at the part where the story picks up.

Where's that pic when you need it.

The compression on the GamePad is noticeable, no? I only ask because on the demo unit of NSMBU I couldn't really tell any compression going on, but playing it at home I can see a bit.

Normal right?

Anyway I really can't express how much I love the Wii U right now, it's great! To know improvements to the OS are coming and games I want makes me excited.

I only noticed a bit of artifacting while playing F-Zero.

yeah definitely in fzero on the horizon, i have seen it rarely in 1 other place but cant really remember where. It also seems that the red channel or fully red objects, either gets weird artifacting or just looks pixelated in general a lot of the time on the pad.

I'm still loving my Wii U (launch day owner). So far, the Wii U games I've bought Monster Hunter and Lego City Undercover this month. I also picked up the Metroid Prime Trilogy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. I can't wait for the updates Nintendo has promised us (and I hope Tt also give us an update for the loadtimes for Lego City). Can't wait to see what else Nintendo has in store for us.

don't want to turn this into a MH thread but this game has single handedly rejuvenated my Wii U satisfaction. I'm already 60+ hours into it and my enthusiasm has not yet wavered one bit.

I hear you there, MH is definitely going to have me more than preoccupied for quite a long while, I currently have 50 hours in it, and still have barely scratched the surface to that game. I picked up Lego City the same day but have not put much time in it, but my son certainly has though, planning to get NFS next week after the hit to the wallet last week. If we could get a Dragon Quest X localization I honestly won't care how barren the Wii U will look afterward, i'm sure between DQX and MH I almost wouldn't need anything else.

Haha I got the typical Wii U scenario today. I showed a game to my sister and she asked what the "Wii U" on the controller was. "This the Wii right". I said it was new. "Ooh its a new controller for the Wii?"

... Nice name Nintendo!

My mother confused the WiiU for the Wii UDraw, I believe. She thought the WiiU was a $50 controller.

Then I will take your advice and continue :).
I put around 120hrs in my first playthrough.
That's... a long time. I haven't put that much time in a game in years. Well, I might as well continue for now.

If you have a decent PC try out Dolphin. You don't have to use the awful Wiimote :)

I don't think there's any schedule for Nintendo Directs. They happen when Nintendo have something to announce, which sadly isn't often.

Well it's a bi monthly-thing going by the dates, (the 3DS ones) but with the occassional Wii U Direct disrupting the flow, it kind of seems Nintendo isn't "frequent". We'll get a new one in April.

2011: October, December
2012: February, April, June, August, October, December
2013: February, ?

Specials: Pre-E3 Direct regarding Miiverse, Wii U Presentation including Bayo 2, Wii U Launch Direct, Pokémon Direct, Wii U January Direct and countless Direct Mini's.

I want to know about April releases any dates?
I really hope April is not a dead month for my Wii U

also this is me the last few hours

I am the only one who seems to spend a few hours a using this thing

there is no OT thread for it but I do like it as part of my Wii U experience

I also enjoy those travels, last night made some tours, love the quality and interface, I hope they include more next months and o not abandone the app

Omg... just discovered the ZL + ZR tilt scroll feature in the browser while looking for a solution to the lack of a vertical scroll bar. So good.

I have to be honest with myself and I think I've come to the realization that no matter what kind of game droughts there might be on this system, it's probably the only one I need as a "next generation" console. It does everything I could want it to do including playing great Nintendo console games I can't find anywhere else.

I feel like the other consoles are easily supplanted by an upgraded PC, and maybe only with a video card upgrade for me at that as I already have a Core i7 processor in my current box. There just doesn't seem to be anything about PS4 that has me thinking it's needed and the new Xbox sounds like it may be so similar that it also is kind of unneeded. Plus if the used games business is true, well, that's really putting it right out.

Nintendo just do a great job of delivering stuff I can't get anywhere else. For that, I'll be a loyal customer for a long time.

Did you finish it? I honestly don't think I have enough time to put that much into one game...

I did over the course of a month, but remember the main story takes about 60-65 hours. The extra time is doing optional end-game quests and things like that. The biggest reason it took me so long to get to around to playing it is because of the time commitment. It was absolutely worth it, but I don't think I could do it again. I like my games in the 20-30 hour rage to completion.

Neither had I... It certainly didn't feel like I'd spent so much time. I didn't do any of the post-game stuff.
But I did rebuild the colony...

Nindentoo need to do/try to implement more WiiU <-> 3ds stuff. I never thought I would be one of "those people" who bought the same game twice, for different consoles but the MH3U character transfer is brilliant!
I'm also unaturally excited for the mii verse app for phones, VC's and my kids copy(yea right) of lego city that is set to arrive next week.

so I was vacuuming yesterday and snagged the power cord from the Gamepad dock. It tore the gray wire up a little, but the copper inside looks untouched. Can I just get electrical tape or something and cover this up?

also.... it looks like it's just a USB connection.... but Nintendo's cable goes from USB -> Power brick -> electric plug. I wonder if I could just use any USB cable or if it needs that power brick for some reason?
