Wii U Speculation Thread 2: Can't take anymore of this!!!

When will you learn this isnt E3? GDC hype still hasnt beaten MS CES 2012 hype train yet :(

I kind of agree though. Yes its GDC but don't you want to drum up hype to developers to WANT to develop for this machine out the gate....

I hope there was some behind closed doors hype for developers thats been NDA'd. I mean if Nintendo dropped the ball to drum up the hype for development, could be same ole nintendo with 3rd parties...

Didn't follow up on GDC at all, so did I miss anything? Really I just don't know why this thread just keeps blowing up all of the sudden if there is no news :/

Nope. This year's GDC is pretty boring so far. EA's "gamechanger" event was about helping poor countries and 5 mins talk about Sim City 5. Maybe the super mario keynote will session will save us <.<

We should make a pixel art banner for the new thread, everyone makes him self in Pixel form, background should be like mario level/metroid or E3 halls.

No news at GDC, when will this fucking company learn....

Learn what? While we would all obviously love to get some news at GDC, we represent the highest tier of enthusiasm for the console. As far as Nintendo is concerned, we're already sold on the system and need to be swayed no further. By revealing info at GDC they would only dilute the impact, as well as breadth of content, of their E3 presentation when the world is watching.

Oh. Consider this an explanation for those reading who sincerely hold these sentiments, then.

Odd, I kind of feel that the Internet makes it harder to control dissemination of information. Before, information spread at a snail's pace. Now, we get leaks all the time from various companies, even when they sign hefty NDAs. Except for Nintendo.

Yeah it's a double-edged sword. But in some case, controlled "leaks", proactive disclosure of information, loosen and relax a bit the tension & pressure of the more vocals/die-hard fans/people awaiting tirelessly news from the company. We can all guess why Nintendo keep 90% of their cards right now for E3. But reveal 10% of the rest (things not buzz-worthy but interesting nevertheless) to a specific audience like us will not ruin their long-built surprise. But well, c'est la vie, it's their approach. Since developers diaries/blogs, letting players have a glimpse of the development process, i want every company to do it, it's so interesting. But in the case of the Wii U, it's obviously difficult to talk about that without revealing too much :(

I agree with you, BUT THIS FUCKING COMPANY WILL NEVER LEARN

Nothing new at GDC is awesome. It means all the more to reveal at E3, which I'm going to this year.

I just want Retro to reveal their project. Everything else is just icing.

To save everyone some anguish, I went ahead and posted on the Primal Carnage forums asking if they're considering the game for Wii U.

Oh and one more thing, IdeaMan has been confirmed to be legit by now, yes? No offense to IdeaMan, this thread is hard to keep track of, and I only browse for the hilarious photoshops.

By the time E3 rolls around this place will become a quantum singularity of madness that can only come from dangerous hype and antihype levels simultaneously coexisting.

I expect nothing to come out from GDC, and I'll be saner for the expectation.

I tried to legitimate myself in a wall of text, not sure if it's enough so i'm in the process of legitimationizating (lulz) my info with lherre since several days but he is quite busy. I tried to find a way to do it without revealing things that can endanger my sources. It's the info that is important, not me.

Yeah, it's cool to see companies unabashedly carrotstick other companies practically in real time like that. :D

You know, I actually kind of like GDC's big change this year, even though it led to less "end user" information. This is a developer event, so we shouldn't be getting any game announcements. This should be all about development stuff. The Wii U sdk licensing? That's understandable, because the devs now know how they can code their games. A discussion on how to position 3D elements for a game? Yeah, total sense to help 3DS 3rd party game makers. The specs would be nice to know, surely, and they would help general developers who aren't there. But there are certainly lots of information that doesn't need to be boasted quite at the moment.

Except for any TimeSplitters 4 announcements. That couldn't possibly come any sooner.

Ahh, caps. I was waiting for that.

I agree, sort of. Nintendo learns differently, but they certainly don't learn the same lessons that other companies do. This works both to their advantage and to their detriment.

Yep. Also, Nintendo just said that it will be live-tweeting the panel at 3:30pm PT.

Looks like I'm leaving work in half an hour instead of later on, then.

Slightly off-topic, but they literally just announced a brand-new Lupin III TV series in Japan mere minutes ago. How coincidental!

Ironically, it's centered around Fujiko, who doesn't even appear in our banner image.

I'm fed up that all these amazing shows are in California ! E3, GDC, Blizzcon, Comic-Con, etc.
With always palm trees, smiling people with casual clothes, sunshine, amazing showfloor structures, etc.

Come to Paris ! Our bread is betta !

Yeah, it's more logic to handle the GDC that way, as its Event Manager explained in an interview linked earlier. Now we just need some interesting development-on-Wii U-news, even vague one to not reveal unannounced games, innovative mechanics, or the specs.

Frankly, I still would have liked it if one of the Nintendo discussions were along the lines of "Revisiting the portable to living room interface paradigm", something that would discuss potential ways to cross-over games between the 3DS (which has an wide top screen and a touchable bottom screen) and the Wii U (which has a wide top screen and a touchable bottom screen), or additional means of getting the two platforms to interoperate now that wireless communications is a natural part of our lives.
