My predictions....

Wii U will be renamed
to something even worse.
E3Nintendo Direct Prediction Time
Nintendo are pleased to announce a bold new name befitting their bold new vision for home consoles. Introducing the Wibes Entertainment System.

I'm in on a good ol' fashioned E3 bingo when the time comes.. I'd be all about that!

Hey, why don't we have a bingo for Nintendo Direct?

Here's my Wii U card:

Code:
nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing
nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing
nothing nothing hair nothing nothing
nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing
nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing

I like your free space. Haha.

I'll keep my promise, don't worry.

what will you eat for iOS support?

Not sure what the USB-Ethernet adapter has to do with sound and what "profiler communication" stands for, but I find it interesting nevertheless, especially the "This is the same adapter the Wii uses" part.

Could it be devkit-related only?

(sorry if old)

I wouldn't post that nor would I ask "why not?"

That's just me though.

@Disorientator: Haven't you been ask before not to do that?

I'm not deleting anything.

Ban me if you guys think I'm doing something against the ToS.

I'm just sharing my findings from publicly available sources, nothing more nothing less.

If companies are violating NDAs by making confidential documents public (which I don't think applies in this case) it's not my fault.

People need to know. \m/

Profiling is part of the development process, so yes. And please, just paraphrase the stuff (or quote it if you don't understand what it means), don't mention company or product names. It's a good thing we have more people sleuthing, but we don't want to kill any sources.

It's not about being banned. It's about exposing leaks to a company with a very large wrench. There are ways of sharing information without showing your sources. If you don't get that, then oh well.

Edited. (I'll get it the first time eventually)

So does it mean that the WiiU will use the same USB-Ethernet adapter as the Wii?

..leaks...

Release notes available to everyone are considered leaks now?

It's a good find, the first concrete bits of information this thread has had in ages actually.

Does highlight as well how tools for any new architecture need a lot of optimisation work, and suggests that what was seen last year will have come a long way.

The information shouldn't be 'publicly available' in the first place. The company is not following the NDA to the letter, a legally-binding contract they signed to keep them from divulging any new information whatsoever. So yes, it's the very definition of a 'leak'.

Probably. The USB-Ethernet adapter is just an off-the-shelf PC part, anyway.

We don't know how Nintendo sees these things, but we know that they're incredibly paranoid and secretive, so we should simply assume that the info isn't meant to be in the open. I already explained that several small middleware providers "forget" to remove console stuff from the public release notes all the time. That usually doesn't happen with bigger companies like Havok or Autodesk. Go ahead and download the latest UDK and CryEngine and see if you can find any mention of the Wii U in the documentation or the headers.

I think the company concerned are more aware of that NDA and what constitutes a breach than you are.

There's a difference between a system that is not even announced and one that is. And also this is hardly earth-shattering, just interesting. No need to scare the life out of our junior members over it.

I dunno if I'd consider a month "ages" - because I already posted the exact same info about a month ago. But it technically wasn't in this thread, it was in thread 3. ;)

Good to know that we won't have to buy another adapter!
(not all USB-Ethernet adapters were compatible with the Wii if I'm not mistaken)

Concerning small companies not following NDAs to the letter, bad for them I say.
Being "small" should make you even more careful me thinks. (better this way for us of course)

Ah, I missed that.

It's easy to miss things amongst the fun and games of these threads ;)

There's no much chance we're getting Fire Emblem here either.

People WILL notice that you can marry a 10 year old...

Easy. Change the character's bio to claim she's older, then add jokes about being short and looking/acting like a child in the localized script.

I remember the "x3-x4 over Xbox performance improvement" part but not the USB-Ethernet one.

You sure it's not something specific to this release? (dated/generated April 16 - not a month old)

So whats the difference between SDK and VSI ?

By the way, who was the one who leaked that the codename of the system was "CAFE" in the first place?

01.net (via Ubisoft probably).

And they found images/links on Nintendo's developer site once they knew that name, which were then swiftly removed.

It's not about scaring people. It's about keeping the leaks open. That's all I care about, at least. People here have known about these pages for months and have managed to not go on blabbing about them for this exact reason.

The Wii IOS only supports a specific chipset. But there's no real reason to switch to a different chipset now, so why waste time writing new drivers?

Sure, it's their responsibility, but like you wrote it's better for us, which is why I'd prefer to keep it that way. While most of the stuff in freely available documents is vague at best or lacks context, there are very concrete and interesting tidbits every once in a while (like the Wii U DSP confirmation, or the stuff about the 3DS' second core).

EDIT: Sorry, I meant the performance improvements, not the ethernet adapter. That's new.

You really think Nintendo won't be aware of what's going on with people they have partnered with to supply devkit tools?

It's not a leak, and speculation threads are a bit more interesting when there is information in them and not just Reggie avatars and trains going into the sun.

So, do you think any of the big media outlets will pick this news up and spread it like wildfire? I remember the subpar PS360 rumors spread everywhere.

I would really like this to make the rounds.

I just don't see what the point is of risking losing a source of information, especially when there are so few of them these days. I couldn't care less how silly anyone thinks it is. Seems more like you're defending your posting the URL just for the sake of defending it. That's what's silly.

I dont know how this particular source of information informs us about anything regarding WiiU besides the dev kits nomenclature? Its mostly discussing the performance of their software on the hardware. Doesnt give anything away about the hardware itself.

Wii USB->Etnernet adapter compatible with the WiiU + no ethernet port on the WiiU (not that we didn't know/speculate)

;)

Yes, I have posted the link to the mysteries of life, the Wii-Universe and everything. Should we lose this treasure trove of information about USB adapters and vague performance figures I don't know how we will cope but let's hope Nintendo are not as on top of these things as GAF.

My silliness knows no bounds!

Jesus christ.

We have 4 threads of people talking bollocks (well 99% bollocks anyway) and when someone does post some firm info, with a source to back it up, we tell them that's not allowed????
