Usually retro games are made to appeal to the fond old memories. A retro Mother game would be pretty useless when PALland hasn't even played a single Mother game. Great memories huh.

I've never played an earthbound game
I want to but I don't have the old consoles to play them on. See Nintendo! You have a potential customer if you decide to rerelease these games!

the title is misleading as there's only one earthbound, two in english by nintendo, and three if you're counting the english patch of mother 3.

but mother 3 would be earthbound 2, not earthbound 3. earthbound zero would be mother for the nes.

Nintendo's output on Wii U and 3DS will probably be lower than ever before. If they can't get third-parties on-board, this will probably be the first gen where they actually lose money.

Again, you're ignoring the huge investments they've made in expanding their developmental footprint.

Also, they've published 12-15 (depends if you count Nintendogs versions) 3DS games so far, with another 10 already announced for 2012 and who knows what they haven't announced.

That might happen if Nintendo focuses on those and neglects the others I mentioned. I don't think they'll do that though. Those games would likely be relegated to sizzle reels, with maybe one demo on stage at E3 to demonstrate the controller. But they definitely will be there in some fashion, but I don't think that they will change the perception people have of Nintendo's press conference for the worse, the only people who would keep that mindset are probably beyond convincing anyway.
